@@brodiebrazil Foley in Vegas, Guggenheim with the Dodgers, San Antonio seems to be well run in the NBA and I have no idea who owns them. Rooney family with the Steelers in the NFL.
My favorite MLB owner is: Steve Cohen(NY Mets). The dude clearly loves the team and not just use his wealth to buy talent; but clearly wants to honor the teams history. The statue to Tom Seaver, retiring Strawberry's number, and soon to retire Wright's number. Basically the anti-Fisher.
Yes and no. I'd argue that the owners of the most successful teams of the last 25-30 years are very well known...Buss, Lacob, Cuban, Steinbrenner, Kraft. Ted Turner in the 90s. There are, of course, the well-known trashbags like Jones, Davis, Fisher, Snyder, and Sterling. I think a case can be made that the only owners who aren't known are the ones that aren't Exceptional, whether that's exceptionally good or exceptionally bad.
My 49ers used to have a bad owners named Jed York. His first 10ish seasons he tried to be Gerald Jones Jr and then he hired Kyle/John and shut up. Now I think he's a really good owner. He was only 36 when he inherited the team and had to grow up.
The Australian Football League. No corporate ownership. Fans purchase memberships in the club and the teams are owned by the members. I can actually say "we" when I refer to my club lol
as a ravens fan biscotti has done a fantastic job in baltimore, and as a cleveland indians/guardians fan i’m not a huge fan of dolan, he’s done good things but we have a hard time keeping good players for the most part but that comes with being a smaller market team
I'm happy with the ownership groups in Toronto. Rogers Communications (Jays). Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment (Leafs, Raptors, FC). They spend money on players and are willing to go the extra mile re. trade deadline acquisitions if they believe they can contend for a title. Team management has been the problem, at least for the Jays and Leafs. Masai Ujiri won an NBA title (2019 Raptors), and even though they are currently in a rebuild, he's still the man IMO.
Samueli of the ducks. Stays informed of what's happening with the ducks but let's the hockey people run the team. Invests heavily in the community including arena, and surrounding area. But most importantly invests heavily in community hockey including junior ducks, Lady ducks, high school, and community rinks. Very philanthrophical with money to universities and medical centers.
I think a good owner is one that does things to where you hardly know they are there. My Ravens have a great owner in Steve Bisciotti. My Reds are pretty cursed with Bob Castellini
The best sport owner is one who isn’t a fan of the crosstown team, who then buys your team just to run it into the ground, move it, and sell it. It also helps if they don’t embezzle money from revenue sharing. Oakland A’s forever
I know most yankee fans won't agree but Hal Steinbrenner is a good owner. He does spent a lot but the team is always competitive. I mean when your worst year in 30 years is a season 2 games over .500, that describes success. Sure, sometimes it would be better if they have a tear down and start from scratch but at the end of the day you can count on the Yankees being in contention every single year even if they haven't won since 2009 and I do not think there is another franchise in North America that can say that.
The Packers have been a publicly-owned, nonprofit corporation since 1923. Many of the shares in the organization are owned by the fans (5.2M shares owned by 539K shareholders) and there is a 200K share per person ownership cap (less than 4% of the team’s outstanding shares). According to Forbes, the Packers are the 13th most valuable NFL franchise at $5.6B.
I used to think there were "Good sports team owners". No longer. My usual teams, from the Boston area even though I'm in Dallas. Red Sox ownership, could care less about winning now. Bruins ownership NEVER has cared about winning in the 50+ years owning the team. Patriots ownership cared about winning but also may have caught lightning back in 2001...and rode it for as long as they could. Great run, but nothing the past 7 seasons. Celtics ownership? I used to think they were all about winning, until they won this past summer and put the team up for "delayed sale"....I get it, fun to make money...and if these are run as businesses, they do. But as a fan, I'd rather go see a Savannah Bananas game. Now THAT Owner is all about Fans winning! Yes, I have been spoiled the last 20+ years as a Boston fan.
I think the greatest sports team owner ever was Harold Ballard when he owned the Toronto Maple Leafs through the 70's, 80's and into the very early 90's.
Ha Ha! For those who don't know, Buried is joking. Ballard made tons of money in the 80s while icing one bad team after another. Used to call the old Maple Leaf Gardens the "Carlton Street Cashbox" because all he had to do is open the ticket windows and call center and the games would sell out.
Clay Bennett of the OKC Thunder: hired a great GM in Sam Presti and let him do his job. Didn't panic when Presti made one big mistake (the Harden trade) or when he lost KD. You never hear anything from Bennett about anything having to do with the Thunder. And that's good, too. (Though my guess is that erstwhile Sonics fans see Bennett differently!)
Steelers Stable management and Excellent control of dead cap --- Yankees Never having highest single pay guy in Baseball on the team Signing all the A- and B+ players in 60's and 70's own another team (A's) --- Lakers Being in LA. Jerry Bus. I have no idea why they have been great -- NE Pats Convince the greatest QB (Brady) give a team salary cut. Brady was paid at lower mid level QB at NE. Brady was the only NFL player with 3x grantee contract -- Not putting the SF warriors yet
As a hard core Red Sox fan it pains me to say this but Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner is probably the best owner in sports ..Unlike owners like A’s owner John Fisher , Pirates owner Robert Nutting , Raiders owner Mark Davis who are the worst of the worst Steinbrenner is always looking to make his team better for the fans , same can be said for the Dodgers Guggenheim group .
Steinbrenner and Brian Cashman are good at keeping the team, how to say, mediocre-great. This season they did have a legitimately great team that ran into an even greater team in the World Series. But since 2009 they're been pretty mediocre-great, made some ALCS, never had a losing season, but never a team that we'd look at to start the season and say "this is the best team in baseball, they're going to win 110 games and destroy everyone to win the World Series." That from a Yankees fan. I think Steinbrenner and Cashman have done a great job of consistently bringing in new people to keep fans excited about the upcoming seasons but not consistently bringing in players to actually get them over that hump of high-grade mediocrity.
1) Fans don't know financials of teams and most, frankly, wouldn't understand published statements anyway. 2) Fans howl that all they want is "just being competitive." It's a canard. No fan EVER is satisfied with that for very long. The items in this video are nice, but platitudes. Winning is all that matters.

Ironic thing is, one of the best run organizations in the NFL the past 20 years is Green Bay and they don't have an owner, lol
stole the words outta my mouth, GO PACK GO
Except if it was fan rule they would of kept Favre and traded rodgers in 2008

💯 for the most part. It's more to the point that when you hear their name you know that they have someone actually running the team that qualified.

But are there individuals who hold a larger ownership? Who hires the management?
Short answer. Hasso Plattner.
Not having tax payers pay for your stadium is a start
In North America the obvious best is the Packers because fan owned. Fan ownership is ALWAYS the best choice

With the A’s in Las Vegas it’s in their agreement that they must give back to the community…Can’t wait to see how that goes

The Guggenheim Group that owns the Dodgers. Easily the best.

The fact he double down on keeping the Ducks branded as "Anaheim" while the Angels went "Los Angelas" is a clear sign Samueli understands his base.
