Dieser "musikalische Tatort" in der schönen Kreisstadt Daun, gebannt zwischen Vulkanen, Maaren und brodelnden Geysiren, war ein fesselndes, brillierendes, musikalisches Feuerwerk.
Ich war vor 10 Tagen auf einer 20er Jahre Party. Die Stimmung war fast wie hier... Leider ohne Max Raabe und ohne Sverija... Aber auch mit diesen Ohrwürmern. War toll...
Seit dem Film "Babylon Berlin" bin ich von dem Musikstil sowas von hin und weg. Ich musste für erkennen, zu welche Lebensfreude Orchester imstande sind, wenn diese auf spielen.
Not sure that was considered Klezmer at the time - it may have just been Eastern European pop music and folk tunes. Its classification as "Klezmer" may have come from it arriving with Jewish immigrants to the States, among whom it continued to be popular and musicians continued to play it.
Severija is always amazing, but Zu Asche, Zu Staub just doesn't have the same feel to it without the whole Psycho Nikoros performance. Such a surreal experience to watch that for the first time
With its vaguely 40s and 50s lounge era cum Kurt Weill fusion sound, and the bebop/swing influences (ala Cherry Poppin' Daddies) this is not exactly an accurate representation of typical cabaret or "tanz musik" actually played in Weimar Berlin nightclubs and revue venues, but it is less anachronistic than say Jay Z's hip hop soundtrack for The Great Gatsby. If you want something more in line with what you would have heard at the Scala or the Haller Revue, check out Max Raabe und sein Palast Orchester.
It would be great to have the complete recording of this concert, at least the complete video of this amazing performance of "Zu Asche zu Staub". It's the best stage / sound / video performance of this song!
