This is actually the very first bootstrap dress form that I see is the closest fit to its owner, well done, great job with the redrafting and I think it looks awesome as it is!! 😇 I recently purchased a missy fit pattern from them and mine is completely messed up, the measurements I typed in are nowhere to be found on the actual pattern. I wrote an email to them asking for help. No one responded.. so I ended up redrafting the whole thing from scratch. It's not the money I spent on this pattern, it's the time and headache, that I ordered this product so I don't have to draft a pattern on my own. Anyways, just because I'm disappointed with the service and product that doesn't mean everybody else should be, and I'm genuinely happy to see that other sewers are happy and satisfied with their new custom dress form. Happy sewing! 🙂
Interesting...I had to do multiple surgeries on my dress form too, mainly due to my seam allowance mistakes. However, having completed it once I'd do the process again. Thanks for sharing your process.
This was a fun and enlightening video. I'm happy that you included the things you had success with and also the things that had to be altered. "Performing surgery" is something I am all too familiar with. Plus, you're super cute. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the tutorial on the dress form. I really like how you altered it for your body, it makes me feel like I could also make this. I have the pattern cut out, I will also do a lot of measuring while I put it together. I like the shirt you made, it fits you well. Great job Erika
I have been watching a few bootstrap diy videos and your video definitely helped me the most! I love the way you filmed the construction...clean, crisp and clear! Thank you for this video!
Ive seen several videos on this pattern. You did the best job of explaining and showing the steps and I really appreciate you talking about the modifications you needed to make. She looks great and the blouse you made fits so well!
I’m midway through my own dress form, so this is helpful. I’m already thinking my form will need a small patch job as I had to make some adjustments to get the bust height and fullness how I wanted, but now it’s kind of pigeon breasted in the middle, so I think I inadvertently took out a bit of the midchest distance in my process, so I may have to add a bit there and possible take some off the sides to get the bust placement correct again. Glad to see I’m not the only one who had a bit of fabric surgery involved. It looks like you did a splendid job. I hope mine comes out as well.
Love this I'm so torn between making a dress form like this or doing a body cast and making it with rising foam... But I've never seen arms like that and I'm for sure gonna do them no matter what and try to make some legs for fitted pants!
Thank you Sarah! The body cast with the rising foam sounds like a fun project. I wasn't brave enough to try that but making some legs sounds interesting. I'll need to look into that!
Me too.. I'm plannin on doing both, get the bootstrapfashion pattern, and then do the diy-dressform with tape thingy and basically make a perfectly fitting pattern from it, and compare/adjust the bootstrap one. Idk if that would even work but we'll see!
You did a wonderful job putting this dress form together, especially showing the interior panel for the pole. I just watched Pocket Full of Poseys make her dressform from Bootstrap, aand she used an old plastic dress form to fill up the inside, then stuffed to her measurements. Both are very nice.
Thanks for the video, Erika. I've been considering the bootstrap fashion pattern for the past couple of years. It was good to hear your realistic experience!
Thank you for opening up yourself, your body and your talent as well as mistakes and fixes. I really enjoyed it. Ballpark idea on time to make this, excluding setbacks for mistakes??
Yeah, I looked up the Bootstrap dress form and, unless I misunderstood something, certain body measurements have a min-max range that you have to fall within. This is just an fyi for people that might fall outside of some of the ranges like I did. So I'm planning on the duct tape method, but will glue some felt by the yard on the outside to make it look better and give a place to stick pins without getting the tape adhesive on them.
Hi Sara! I got the Plus Size DIY Dressform where you can input your own measurements but it true some measurement only go up to a certain measurement. If your measurement aren't too far off what is available, maybe you can get that and alter the pattern and add to the areas where you need to? It is helpful to have a pin-able dress form. That is the reason why I haven't attempted the duct tape version. Did it work out for you?
Thanks for this. My high hip is also widest. It looks great. I am so impressed with the silhouette of the form. You inspired me. I didn't think I could get my shape but you did it. I am ordering mine tomorrow:-))
Thank you for posting this Erika! I thought this would be too difficult so I wasn't really considering it. Now that I've watched your video I will think more seriously about it!
I'm still a beginner, so may I ask what the black part on your fabric is? You said you used muslin, rigth? And is the black stuff interfacing? THe instructions call for 2 layers of fabric and then interfacing, but I was wondering if you could get away with just using a very stury upholstery type fabric for the outer layer and then have some woven, single-sided fusible interfacing on that.. But I'm also confused as to whether I should then do it like you, and leave the seam allowance free of interfacing or cover the whole pattern pieces, because I assume that the seams also need reinforcement to not stretch out over time? But idk if that wouldn't become too bulky & hard to sew..
Hey slave! Good questions! I honestly don't remember if the instructions called for two layer of the self fabric but I don't think it's necessary if that's the case. And I do think you can use a sturdy upholstery type of fabric as long as you fuse the wrong side of the fabric. The goal of whatever fabric you end up using is that its easily pin-able and that it doesn't stretch out as you're sewing it and stuffing it...and that it doesn't add extra bulkiness to your wanted measurements. The only reason I didn't fuse the seam allowance is because I didn't want the extra bulkiness and I wanted the seams to be able to be pressed flatter...but isn't not a big deal you can fuse the seam allowance if you think you need the seam allowances to be more secure. You can't really do anything that is too wrong when it comes to sewing. There will always be a fix to anything. I hope this helps! Sorry the reply to two months after the question 😊
If you use E6000 on something that can't lie flat with no tension, you can track it in place with a hot temp glue gun to hold until the E6 dries/cures overnight. :-)
Thanks for the tip! I didn't have any glue sticks for my hot glue gun 😔. But the tape worked out well enough since I had to undo the dress form a few times to fix the stuffing.
Thanks for this, I watched another video about the bootstrap pattern and the bust line bothers me as I have big boobs but they're quite high up if that makes sense? Anyway. Loved the video and subscribed, thanks!
It looks great. It sure doesn't look like it was fun to make. lol But then you are probably a great sewer & it was easy for you. Doesn't look like someone a novice sewer would find easy to make but I am not sure.

That turned out really well. I like how you tell us that you had to unstuff her, remeasure, and readjust to get it just right.
Haha It's true, its true 😊 Thank you Melissa!
Very Helpful! Thanks so much! ♥
Great job!
Thank you!

Thank you so much Loralynn!!😊💗
This pattern is so cool. I already have a dress form I padded out to match me but now I want to make this one!
What a great video and you did a wonderful job making that dress firm. That was work!
Thank you!!

Thank you so much cinco!😊💗
Absolutely stupendous! Amazing! Darling wording about “operating.” I want one too. Am not sure I am as brilliant as you.

What dedication! Way to go! 😊❤

very nice tutorial! your dress form turned out great. thanks for sharing, i'm going to make mine soon :-)
Thank you!! Good luck! 👍🏼

Thank you so much! 😊 As long as you have all the supplies this can be done in a day.
Omg thank you! I have been wanting to make one of these and finally looked it up. Your video is hands down the best and most helpful. You’re great🙌
Thank you so much!! Sooo happy to hear!!! 😊💗

Thank you Maria! So glad I could help!! 😊💗
A regular electric kitchen knife works great for cutting foam.
Thank you for posting this Erika! I thought this would be too difficult so I wasn't really considering it. Now that I've watched your video I will think more seriously about it!
Thank you Elinor!! Glad I was able to help. It’s really very doable and not difficult at all. 😊
Great job- thank you for demonstrating how this is made.
Thank you!!
Looks cute! I didn't know that muslin would work. First time i tried that, used duck cloth - that was way too rigid.
Thank you! Yeah unwashed muslin with fusing worked perfectly 😊
Thank you. I want to make one now.
Marie Moreau Yesss!!

Wow! You did a great job!
H Abc Thank you!!
I love it!!! Congrats you definitely got it
Thank you!!
Can you show u making a dress using your new dress form?
Yes, I definitely plan to 😊

ConstanceMarkiewicz Thank you!!
You did an outstanding job. But that seems like a lot of work
Привет! Как можно купить у тебя такую штуку! Я тоже хочу шить по такому манекену!
so did you make a outfit with it yet
I've only made the top I'm wearing in the video so far. 😊 Hope to have some time to make more stuff soon.
It looks great. It sure doesn't look like it was fun to make. lol But then you are probably a great sewer & it was easy for you. Doesn't look like someone a novice sewer would find easy to make but I am not sure.
Thank you! Maybe not a project for a first time sewer. But it's also not a difficult project. Might just look intimidating? :)
👍👍🥀🌹🙏🙏
Wowwwwww
Thank you Sonia!!
У нас одинаковый размер!
