    A tip for the rotary cutter is make sure the blade size matches fabric weight. As someone who can't use scissors more than two minutes I have a few rotary cutters for different fabrics and depending on layers. Also pressure from directly above helps.

      Thanks for the tip - that’s something I hadn’t considered and I probably was using too small a blade for that thick fabric!

    I just made my bootstrap dress form for that exact purpose! I can squish her into my stays, my corset, my ren faire bodice, etc. Looks great and you did a great job!

      Thanks! So cool to see someone else using it for the same purpose!

    This was a great tutorial, thank you for going step by step. I have wanted to make a dress from after watching other TH-cam videos, but the ones I saw used all kinds of various items (duct tape, plastic wrap, etc), so this is a much better answer. Thank you!!!

      My first dress form attempt was a duct tape variety and it did not go great. It was really ugly, stiff, and wasn’t that helpful for my sewing projects

      Thank you! I made it years ago when I first started sewing. It's a traditional embroidered Mexican dress that I made into a more fitted pencil style dress.

    The name "Bootstrap" got my attention. To me it means , "Getting in the best way you can." Interesting.😺❤

    Great job! It looks quite close to your shape. Could I ask approximately how much the supplies cost to make up the form and also how many hours from start to finish would you say it took to make it? I am tempted to try this for myself.

    • @EmilyJeanCreates
      @EmilyJeanCreates  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! It has made my sewing life much easier! For the supplies I actually used I would say it cost around $35. Of course I had bought fabric and interfacing I ended up not using and I overestimated the amount of stuffing I would need. So all told I spent $88 but hopefully I’ll be able to use those things in another project in the future

    • @nuclearchick1487

      Thanks for the quic reply! Approximately how long do you think it took you to make it?

    • @EmilyJeanCreates
      @EmilyJeanCreates  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@nuclearchick1487 I have no idea, lol! I’d have to go back and do some serious study to answer that question! I know it took me about 3 weeks start to finish but I have no idea how many hours…

      Thank you. That's a good enough estimate for me.

      I am so glad there’s another short-waisted person out there besides me, ha-ha! I am also 5’ tall, so making or buying flattering clothing is. . .interesting.

    I am 5 feet tall, around 140-145, and very short waisted (7 1/4” from armpit to waist). Is this anywhere near your measurements, because the form really looks accurate?! I will be making an 1880-1885 dress to wear when I ride the Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Rail Road in July, 2024, for my 80th birthday. I decided a form would make fitting it so much easier. And the Bootstrap form sounds exactly like what I need.

      What a fun event to be making an outfit for! Those are very close to my own measurements, so if you put yours together into the Bootstrap custom dress form pattern generator, I think you should have similar results!

    Hi, might have completely missed it but did you use any interfacing or did you use multiple layers of the heavyweight cotton? Also did you use the same type of fabric for the inner support sections? Thanks 😊

    • @EmilyJeanCreates
      @EmilyJeanCreates  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had purchased interfacing but ended up not using it. I decided my heavyweight cotton fabric was thick and non stretchy enough to just use one layer. And yes, I used the same fabric for the inner support sections as I did for the rest. 🙂

    When they do full body scanning for a pattern like that it will be worth it. They have the technology. You would probably have to go somewhere to get scanned, though: expensive equiptment. The real human girl rear here is larger and more shapely than the bodyform and that is a critical area when you want to drap fabrics from the waist.

    • @EmilyJeanCreates
      @EmilyJeanCreates  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah every body is shaped differently and even answering the questionnaire it didn’t perfectly match. For me, the rear was too small and the chest was too big. The slope and shape of the shoulders is another area that is super hard to match since there’s so many different angles coming together in one spot.

  • @hauwaali8138
    @hauwaali8138 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi,what size did you print the pattern?

    • @EmilyJeanCreates
      @EmilyJeanCreates  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You actually enter your measurements on the bootstrap fashion site and they make the pattern to fit your body size and proportions!
