Hola! Follow alone as I explain how I made my own Plus Size dress form and what problems I encountered and how I solved them. It's pretty cool to realized I made this dress form, I have here with me, it's real, and that since I know how I made it I can take it apart and make any changes to it. Pretty cool! Hello! I hope you enjoy watching the process of embroidering what will be a purse. I started this project as soon as quarantine began. I've been working on it on and off. I decided I didn't want to plan out any of the design. I began working on it and made decisions on the color, beads and design as I progressed. Part 1 covers some of the tambour embroidery process. Interesting...I had to do multiple surgeries on my dress form too, mainly due to my seam allowance mistakes. However, having completed it once I'd do the process again. Thanks for sharing your process.

    This is actually the very first bootstrap dress form that I see is the closest fit to its owner, well done, great job with the redrafting and I think it looks awesome as it is!! 😇 I recently purchased a missy fit pattern from them and mine is completely messed up, the measurements I typed in are nowhere to be found on the actual pattern. I wrote an email to them asking for help. No one responded.. so I ended up redrafting the whole thing from scratch. It's not the money I spent on this pattern, it's the time and headache, that I ordered this product so I don't have to draft a pattern on my own. Anyways, just because I'm disappointed with the service and product that doesn't mean everybody else should be, and I'm genuinely happy to see that other sewers are happy and satisfied with their new custom dress form. Happy sewing! 🙂

    I'm still a beginner, so may I ask what the black part on your fabric is? You said you used muslin, rigth? And is the black stuff interfacing? THe instructions call for 2 layers of fabric and then interfacing, but I was wondering if you could get away with just using a very stury upholstery type fabric for the outer layer and then have some woven, single-sided fusible interfacing on that.. But I'm also confused as to whether I should then do it like you, and leave the seam allowance free of interfacing or cover the whole pattern pieces, because I assume that the seams also need reinforcement to not stretch out over time? But idk if that wouldn't become too bulky & hard to sew..

    • @erikaolmos.
      @erikaolmos. 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey slave! Good questions! I honestly don't remember if the instructions called for two layer of the self fabric but I don't think it's necessary if that's the case. And I do think you can use a sturdy upholstery type of fabric as long as you fuse the wrong side of the fabric. The goal of whatever fabric you end up using is that its easily pin-able and that it doesn't stretch out as you're sewing it and stuffing it...and that it doesn't add extra bulkiness to your wanted measurements. The only reason I didn't fuse the seam allowance is because I didn't want the extra bulkiness and I wanted the seams to be able to be pressed flatter...but isn't not a big deal you can fuse the seam allowance if you think you need the seam allowances to be more secure. You can't really do anything that is too wrong when it comes to sewing. There will always be a fix to anything. I hope this helps! Sorry the reply to two months after the question 😊

    No entendí como hiciste la costura hundida que está en la 2da línea (en la parte de la caída de hombro, donde pusiste el cartón) gracias por compartir tu trabajo. Saludos desde Jalisco, México.

    • @erikaolmos.
      @erikaolmos. 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hola! Para comenzar, el carton esta cortado un poquitito más chico que el terminado de la tela. Primero puse la tela azul encima de la otra pieza, 5:05, cosí del front notch, para abajo de la axila hasta llegar al back notch. La costura esta directamente encima de la costura de la esta allí. Después metí el carton en el campito que hice. Y para terminar, encerré el resto del carton cosiendo sobre la costura que ya esta allí, del back notch al hombro y terminar en el front notch. No se tiene que doblar nada. La pata de la maquina se alinea sobre el carton y nomas sigues la costura que ya debe estar allí. Es como un sandwich de carton y lo sellas con una costura 😆 Espero que esta respuesta te ayude. Me da mucho gusto recibir saludos de Jalisco! 💖 Perdon que mi español es mas spanglish, pero espero que me entiendas 😊💗

      El papel que se usa para trazar de llama "Dotted Pattern Paper" Tiene puntos o números en cada pulgada y es un poco trasparente por eso ayuda la trazar fácilmente. 😁

    Yeah, I looked up the Bootstrap dress form and, unless I misunderstood something, certain body measurements have a min-max range that you have to fall within. This is just an fyi for people that might fall outside of some of the ranges like I did. So I'm planning on the duct tape method, but will glue some felt by the yard on the outside to make it look better and give a place to stick pins without getting the tape adhesive on them.

    • @erikaolmos.
      @erikaolmos. 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Sara! I got the Plus Size DIY Dressform where you can input your own measurements but it true some measurement only go up to a certain measurement. If your measurement aren't too far off what is available, maybe you can get that and alter the pattern and add to the areas where you need to? It is helpful to have a pin-able dress form. That is the reason why I haven't attempted the duct tape version. Did it work out for you?

    I’m midway through my own dress form, so this is helpful. I’m already thinking my form will need a small patch job as I had to make some adjustments to get the bust height and fullness how I wanted, but now it’s kind of pigeon breasted in the middle, so I think I inadvertently took out a bit of the midchest distance in my process, so I may have to add a bit there and possible take some off the sides to get the bust placement correct again. Glad to see I’m not the only one who had a bit of fabric surgery involved. It looks like you did a splendid job. I hope mine comes out as well.

    If you use E6000 on something that can't lie flat with no tension, you can track it in place with a hot temp glue gun to hold until the E6 dries/cures overnight. :-)
