    Hey everyone! Here's my reaction/review of episodes 4 and 5 of vol 6 of RWBY! And things just keep getting crazier and crazier!!! Our poor crew has to fully process what was just shown to them....and I'm extraordinarily worried about my man Qrow!!! Also, Salem is truly terrifying, and Oz has decided to go away for now....sheesh! What in the world is going on with this town they're in now?! It's super creepy!!! And oh yeah, HUGE comeback in that second ep........YAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSS!!!!!!! I really, really wish she wouldn't team up with Cinder though! That Adam jump scare had me jumping scared lol. And that moment between Yang and Blake.....so nice while it lasted!!!! Also, I relate to Ruby SO much when it comes to food!!! And last thing....something's waiting in that cellar, shudders!!!!! What an amazing pair of eps (again!!!)! Can't wait to see more! Enjoy! ~ MH

    Yang's always been the protector, the big sister, the mother figure. Ever since Ruby's mother died, she's the one that stepped up to fill that role. When Blake was being self-destructive and refusing to take a break, Yang stepped in there too. When they needed to rely on someone to make it through the tournament, Yang's the person the group turned to there too.
    Yang didn't just lose her arm when she fought Adam that night, she also failed to be the protector of the group, the strong one. Adam stole Yang's identity/confidence from her, broke her. Yang's had to spend the last 2 seasons putting herself back together and moving on from that night. Building her confidence back up. And then Blake tells her "I'll protect you". To Yang, she was basically told "You're still broken and weak, you still can't do your job." She doesn't need someone to protect her, what she needs is for someone to believe in her and support her.
    There's also the whole thing with abandonment issues and earning trust, but everyone always talks about those points so I won't bother going through that.

    Remember, Neo did not see what happened to Roman. All she knows is that Roman died whilst fighting Ruby and that the reason he was in that situation to begin with is Cinder. Thats why she blames those two for his death. When you listen to the soundtrack the song "One thing" (the song playing during the fight) will give some insight as to why Roman ment so mutch to Neo.

    Regarding the Adam jumpscare:
    just imagine how things are for Yang, with how much it hit you. That is just a part of her reality now, the man who *cut off her arm* and did so much more just vividly appears around her with no warning. Think about how much that tears at her psyche, our girl is not ok. She's strong, but she's not ok. And Blake is trying to be there for her, but hasn't found the right way to yet.
    On that note this episode shows off Blake's caring nature quite well honestly, she's the one who softly put a blanket around Weiss, and again she's trying to take care of Yang :) She's not very good with the discussion and words type care, but her affection for her team is visible in small acts :)

    What makes Salem so terrifying is that she doesn't use alot of force to get her way, yes she uses others in general to apply force but what Salem does best is manipulation, and that skill alone makes her such a threat. One of my favorite lines from a Borderlands game applies so much to Salem "You'll always be able to talk your way out of a fight"

    I think it's more so that Yang has been feeling scared and powerless ever since the Adam fight at Beacon. She went from feeling invincible, carefree and the strongest in the team to being incapacitated and badly injured in one hit plus failing to protect Blake. After all she has gone through, and dealing with her PTSD she probably hates feeling helpless and seen as such, that's why Blake's "i'll protect you" was bitter to her. She's afraid of not being strong enough.

    The way I see it, Yang reacted badly to the 'I'll protect you'' statement for several reasons. The first one is that since they are back together, Blake hasn't completely overcome her guilt over Yang's losing her arm. So Blake is trying to make it up to her in a sense, but also she seem to see her a little bit as 'disabled', like that scene in the train she rushed to help Yang grab her back as she felt she couldn't do it with just one arm. So she wants to be there for her, but hasn't truly understood Yang's journey since that loss. Yes, she had to go through depression and PTSD and felt really powerless for a while. She has grown though and now is almost back to her old self, she was able to get back to fighting and being confident. So the last thing she needs is her partner to see her as not being able to protect herself. She wants to be the strong one, the one people can depend on. Blake means well, but that was some of the worse words she could have chosen :)

    “I am Oz, the Great and Terrible,” said the little man, in a trembling voice. “But don’t strike me - please don’t - and I’ll do anything you want me to.”
    Our friends looked at him in surprise and dismay. “I thought Oz was a great Head,” said Dorothy.
    “And I thought Oz was a lovely Lady,” said the Scarecrow.
    “And I thought Oz was a terrible Beast,” said the Tin Woodman.
    “And I thought Oz was a Ball of Fire,” exclaimed the Lion.
    “No, you are all wrong,” said the little man meekly. “I have been making believe.”
    “Making believe!” cried Dorothy. “Are you not a Great Wizard?”
    “Hush, my dear,” he said. “Don’t speak so loud, or you will be overheard - and I should be ruined. I’m supposed to be a Great Wizard.”
    “And aren’t you?” she asked.
    “Not a bit of it, my dear; I’m just a common man.”
    “You’re more than that,” said the Scarecrow, in a grieved tone; “you’re a humbug.”
    That was an excerpt from chapter 15 of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz book. Here’s another one within the same chapter:
    “I think you are a very bad man,” said Dorothy. “Oh, no, my dear; I’m really a very good man, but I’m a very bad Wizard, I must admit.”
    Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tin-man and the Cowardly Lion all risked their lives traveling to the Emerald city, traveling to kill the Wicked Witch under Oz’s demand and then back to then Emerald city in hopes to attain what they believed Oz could provide only to find he could not provide what they wanted.
    Ozpin, headmaster of Beacon academy, gave this strong impression that Remnant was in a time of peace & prosperity, only for Beacon itself to fall at the hands of enemies no one knew about. Lives were lost, people were hurt and spirits were broken. Despite the fact RWBY and her friends found themselves to keep going, when Yang had Ozpin promise to not tell lies or half-truths, it was in response to the fact they all previously risked their lives dealing with enemies they hardly knew about and that going forward, they would know who exactly they’re facing and what to do about that. And… Ozpin could not provide any of that. He led everyone, even his most loyal follower, to believe otherwise.
    Ozpin may possibly have once feared for “Hugin” not coming back, but he definitely showed how much more devastated he was regarding “Mugin”.

    Yang has always wanted to protect her family and friends, being a pillar the team can rely on. Blake saying that she would protect Yang would have made her feel weak and contradict what she stood by. Blake isn't always the best with words, yet she's trying to support her friends. Yang will need to realise when she's at her lowest, she's got people around her who can help

She *could* have meant what I said, but it could also be that Salem is truly indestructible and inevitable. It's vague, and the lamp is a precious resource. • @KingTaltia

      Having come home to a house in that kind of weather, the chill goes straight through the building. Even outside you would be able to feel the difference from outside, but keeping the door open is just gonna make it all the harder to heat the place every second.
      I've been in Maria's shoes in those situations many a time. "In here" refers to where you're going to be, because you aren't outside, least not for long.

    Its a pretty popular fan theory that the younger boy and girl in the picture are Roman and Neo. Not impossible, but that would mean the farm has been like this for at least 10 years or so. I've never seen anything to officially confirm or deny it though.

    • @jonjohns8145
      @jonjohns8145 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Sorry, but that Theory REALLY pisses me off. It's such a "small world" trope that it strains ANY credibility. Remember that Team RWBY got there by randomly crashing a train. The odds of them ending up in a location ANYWHERE NEAR REMOTELY connected with anything they have EVER known is Small, let alone the Home of 2 Major antagonists of their story. It's just infuriatingly annoying that some in the FNDM perpetuated this theory for so long. Thankfully, the upcoming "Roman Holiday" book will very likely put an end to this stupid theory and we will all be better for it! .. 😆

    • @PissedGrunty
      @PissedGrunty 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jonjohns8145 I think its a stretch too, more because of the time that would have passed. The trope is very common in all sorts of fiction, so I can't write it off just because of that. The strongest evidence for it is the boy's hair color and the fact its shown in the same episode as Neo's return. The negative would be that while the bodies have clearly been there for quite a while, its hard to believe its long enough for the kids to grow up to adulthood and no one checking in on the farmstead.

Here' to the upcoming book putting a stake through this theory .. 😃

    Who used the first Jinn question? Raven? Lionheart? ??Summer?? All three? I don't know - but I suspect next year I will. But something happened to make their decisions, reacting three different ways (Raven looks out for herself and rejects the team, Lionheart feels resisting is pointless, and Summer fights a failed pyrric fight)
    Also, the four daughters inherited their mother's magic (she was an original human, after all), and probably their father's ability to soul-reincarnate upon death to some RANDOM maidens. I suspect several iterations later they found each other, and used their passive "magic-lite" while Ozma went through enough regenerations to become discouraged and became a hermit. He only bestowed offensive fighting abilities when they all came across him in the story. So I'd say they WERE the original maidens.IMHO.
    And, ya, I think dust is just freeze dried leftover original human magic.

    • @jonjohns8145
      @jonjohns8145 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Personally, I think it was Lionheart. I think 10+ years ago when the new Spring maiden was chosen in Mistral, He took advantage of the situation and had her open the Vault. He then asked Jinn a similar question and found out that Salem was Immortal. That's what Broke him, and that is when he decided that since there is no beating her, the only logical thing to do is to join her. That's how I see it. I don't think Raven was the one who asked the question. I think she is tactically smart enough to figure out that Ozpin had no plan to defeat Salem. Being the only Member of Team STRQ who is not blinded by idealism (like T and S) or the desire for higher purpose (like Q), she quickly concluded that Salem's too strong and the best Ozpin can do is (as Melissa said) play keep away with the relics So she wanted Nothing to do with fighting a losing battle against the inevitable.

    • @TheRealRightPrice
      @TheRealRightPrice 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pretty sure the daughters weren't the maidens at all and that Ozma split off pieces of his own soul to bind to the maiden girls souls, thereby giving them his magic power and the automatic reincarnation he has. It was established in V3 that magic power is bound to a persons soul so giving magic to someone else might require attaching a piece of magic bound soul to their soul. It would explain why Ozpin's own magic power is very limited, if the parts of his soul broken off to give to the maidens contained the majority of his magic power/capacity.

    I still hope that ultimately, the grand finale will be Ruby verbally ripping the gods a new one for their irresponsible behavior.
    If Salem can't be defeated, do you think they should just roll over and die? How many people has Salem killed directly in her eons alive? Not very many in the relative scheme of things, so most people can still live a full life without her interference thanks to the huntsmen.

      @KingTaltia 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I'm with you. I can see, Ruby knowing and being given time to digest all this knowledge and the state of the world by the final confrontation. She's going to empathize with everyone and call EVERYONE out on their irresponsible behavior. I can see Ruby bringing the four relics together, the gods asking her what she wants them to do with Salem, and Ruby's going to look them in the eyes and say; "Apologize". Not that Salem's without fault, but of the mind that even the gods have to own up to their actions.

    It always truck me just how certain raven was that salem could not be defeated and her insistence that ozpin was not the man that he presented himself to be and that qrow was fool for following him. Like, it seemed like even if she didn't learn the whole play-by-play that everyone else got from Jinn, she clearly seemed to have found out more about the truth. She even said to Yang that after oz let them in, it "Once I knew there was no going back. I needed to know more. But with every new discovery I made, the more horrifying the world became." Unlike Qrow who was implied to take everything at face value as truth, raven may have took matters into her own hands and "questioned everything", as she was telling yang to do, but by pulling on those threads bit off way more than she could chew.

    I don’t think the gods think or understand in the same way as humans. Humans where made from two opposite beings. Arguably the God of light may not even understand grief or personal selfishness since he has never experienced them himself. That’s something that comes from the God of Darkness. In turn the God of Darkness feels things very strongly and lashed out in his own anger without comprehending the big picture, something that comes from the God of Light. They are also both very spiteful in nature, though the god of light tries to hold himself to a higher standard than his brother, possibly as part of their rivalry. I think they overreacted sure, but it’s caused by a fundamental difference in understanding. They themselves have always been immortal so I don’t think they comprehended how much it would mess her up. They know neither negativity or loss. I think the reincarnation thing was the god of lights second attempt, and it’s not exactly fair to the soul he’s bound too (Oscar and all the others) even if it keeps him sane. They don’t think of them as children, like the God of light said ‘A beautiful experiment’ nothing more.

    So Yang's still unsure about what to believe, and when Blake says "I'll protect you", she may be implying that she's not staying because she wants to. Rather because she pities her and feels guilty for what she did.

No one needed to see the whole thing, he certainly didn't want to relive it again... this probably isn't the first time he's been pulled into Jinn's retelling of it, either. The only salient point to their current situation is Salem's immortality, that's the only thing they have any right to be angry about. Shame on Qrow for punching a child in the face (or punching a face the child would feel for himself soon enough?), but he isn't wrong... it's only a matter of time before Oscar's individuality is subsumed. Salem is a boss, great villain scene. I was certain at this point that she was spying on Cinder the whole time, through the arm.
    Ice cream's back on the menu! That said, to paraphrase Jake Peralta: cool fight, still pointless. Of course they're going to team up, Cinder needs a pilot to reach Solitas. Roman was eaten, and then what ate him was smashed into a ship that then crashed; he is Definitely Dead, Neo just doesn't know how. It's a parasole, not an umbrella... likely laced with gravity dust. "Close the door, already!" Maria said, while still outside it; another writer-animator miscommunication. Take another look at that group photo, some people see Roman and Neo as kids. Maybe Neo's voice got scared away? Bumblebee (ship) denied! Blake will figure it out, eventually. Nice to see Weiss demonstrate some more versatility with dust.
    The next chapter is my favourite in the whole show...

      It's not that Salem can necessarily _see_ everything that Cinder does, she can just tell that Cinder is still alive because she feels that her Shadow Hand is still functioning.

    In regards to Salem.
    You're overlooking something that was very subtle, but is extremely important with regards to the question and answer at the end of episode 3.
    Ozpin asked "How can I destroy Salem?"
    Jinn answered: "You can't."
    She's answering his specific question about him destroying Salem, which Ozpin can't do.
    However, you're interpreting it as 'Salem can't be stopped' which is NOT what Jinn said.
    There is a lot of foreshadowing scattered throughout the series, and a lot of key elements are coming into play even more now, as we progress closer to the inevitable finale.
    I have my theories about how things are going to go, and regretfully I can't go into too much detail here because spoilers.
    What I can say is this.
    The Four Maidens and Ruby's Silver Eyes are going to be key elements of the finale, and will be of extreme importance when it comes to stopping Salem, or more importantly, uniting the people of the world.
    As for the return of the Twin Gods, I have a strong suspicion, that it will be Team RWBY, and specifically, Ruby Rose, who can show both of them that there IS still hope for humanity, even if they see all of the conflict and hatred, they will see in her and her friends, the spark of hope and genuine, selfless, desire to make the world a better place.
    As for Qrow hanging by a thread, I can tell you what happens with him, if you want me to. It would be a spoiler to give any details though. The only thing that I can say without spoiling anything is this: "Ruby"
    Regarding Cinder...all I can say about this, is that she is not quite the same Cinder as she used to be. It is extremely subtle, but grows more prominent as the series progresses.
    Unfortunately, no. Roman is confirmed to have been killed in action. He was eaten by the Gryphon and then it exploded, then the ship crashed. If he did somehow survive all of that, he'd likely have been locked up by Ironwood and is in an Atlas prison somewhere.
    Either that or he's on some mysterious beach sipping margaritas and waiting for all this to blow over.
    In truth, CRWBY weren't planning to have Roman around for more than one volume, but since he turned into such an amazing antagonist, they decided to keep him around until volume 3.
    I HOPE they give Neo a voice at some point, but as things are, she is a mute, and doesn't speak.
    Additionally, Neo is very practical and pragmatic. She's already realized she can't beat Cinder (on her own) after this skirmish, so she agrees to work with her for the time being.
    Cinder lied to Neo here though, and we're going to get to see where all of that leads to (hopefully) soon.
    --------------------
    As for why Brunswick Farms sounds familiar, it may have been mentioned or alluded to earlier in the series [as an origin of Roman and Neo, but this isn't certain].
    EDIT: After careful examination of a full-color, high-resolution image of the family photo, it is entirely possible that little boy in the family picture is Roman Torchwick when he was a child. The resemblance is uncanny. However, Neo is not in the picture, so it is likely that Roman and Neo met some time after what happened at the farm. (imgur.com/6RSgL59 )
    Additionally, there is this bit of a legend surrounding the town of Brunswick, as noted in the trivia on the RWBY Wiki. (I've removed all information containing spoilers).
    Brunswick is a German city related to the "The Wild Huntsman", a Headless Horseman-like legend. It fits the Color Naming Rule by being partially named for Bruno, Duke of Saxony, which derives from the Germanic braun, meaning "brown" or "armor".

      You realise that Raven's Aura was just as damaged as Cinder's was, right? Raven couldn't have _easily_ killed Cinder because Cinder was at least as skilled as she was, which was why the fight took so long. She only got the final hit in because Vernal distracted Cinder long enough for her to do so. And why would Raven risk the danger of entering a seemingly bottomless dark pit to check if the person she cast down there is still alive, especially when she would've been running low on energy, Aura and magic, when the Relic of Knowledge was right in front of her?
