I love how old snake doesn’t just drop the empty magazines on the floor and completely discards them, but keeps the empty magazines for reloading later. For a video game that is unprecedented.
Snake was checking for booby traps, booby trapping weapons dates back to ancient china, pretty much anything a soldier might be tempted to pick up, can be and has been booby trapped. (lighters, packs of cigarettes, sidearms, packs of cards, alcohol, food, and pretty much anything that might be taken as a souvenir.)
yeah i remember. hell Full Metal Jacket showed that. Theres a scene from there that a dumb ass named Crazy Earl picked up a fucking PERFECTLY CLEAN stuffed bear, the minute he did he got a chest and back full of shrapnel. Impressed that Snake knew to check that AK for anything.
Mass shipments of sabotaged 7.62x39 were sent to hot spots in the middle east / africa made with explosives instead of gun powder. Retreating forces would leave the ammunition and when used by the enemy it would detonate the rifle, destroying it and killing the user
How incompetent is this militia? They run straight into sniper-fire. Most of them do not even attempt to seek cover. And apparently, none of them ever heard a gekko, despite the fact that these things have outranked tanks in popularity world-wide.
If I had to guess, they're poorly trained, local conscripts. Someone could've easily cut corners with their training to get them on the next truck to the front.
Most of the militia are civillians with barely any training, equipped with cheap gear. The instructors wearing the white jackets are the only ones with any experience. Snake's AK102 jams almost immediately, crap gear, no training. These guys really are being thrown into the meat grinder.
These guys collectively don't measure up to Ramirez...who is rumored to have defended BurgerTown from a battalion of Russian Spetznaz troops with only a toothpick and two packets of ketchup...
Ah yes Operation BurgerTown, those Spetznaz didn't have a chance against Ramirez, tho the toothpick was an overkill even from him,but you didn't hear anything
Remember how on Omaha beach the Air Force missed their target because of bad weather, thus resulting in slaughter? Maybe something similar happened here.
its a very popular way of boobytrap. human common sense to pick up a thing they found. this pattern is take a lot of life in vietnam. and still keep killing until today.
Having a gun conveniently placed where Snake landed was more for us as the viewer to ponder over as his military skill was put on display whilst Kojima introduces himself on screen. I wouldn't look too much into it, it's all cinematography whilst the opening credits are still rolling. He was checking for a wire trap which is usually a bomb buried underground and detonated when a high tension wire gets tripped or pulled. The knife is thin enough to feel for the tension, once Snake was 90% confident it was clean, he proceeded to lift the gun tilted up facing towards him to confirm his suspicions (visual confirmation) before walking away with it. "Weapons to procure on site" in a Middle Eastern battlefield which is know to have IEDs littered all over the floor, considering how cheap and easy they are too make. Also non-ID weapons are a commodity on the battlefield, that boobytrap could have easily been setup by the PMC and not the Militia (reverse tactics). Also Snake walked through a Claymore minefield in Shadow Mosses...forgive him if he's a little extra cautious and freaks out at the sight of a battle tank with a Raven in it.

That or to use as a distraction (which you can do in the game).
When the game presents Snake and changed "Solid Snake" for "Old Snake" breaks my heart
You're insane.
truely words
And just remove the letters S and I from sOLiD and you get Old. Like it was all planned...
I never really noticed that because of the text they put in front of it.

No place for hideo
Gerry Daniel Esqueda Ramírez That was kinda mean to put it there by Konami you know?
Yes and "no place for Hideo is a phrase of the franchise ".... A fan should know that.
There is no place for Kojima in Konami, he is to much for that company...
@@gder2993 Luckily Death Stranding had no place for Konami :)

Seems like they are on tier with most 3rd world Militia then, At least they use the sights on the AKs instead of just hip firing them.

If boss is the mother of special forces, then Ramirez is the daddy of modern warfare itself.
This is an underrated comment.
If it takes 3-4 truckloads of guys to advance on 4 people, you need a better plan of attack, cause they decimated these guys without breaking a sweat.
Remember how on Omaha beach the Air Force missed their target because of bad weather, thus resulting in slaughter? Maybe something similar happened here.
Pretty common when untrained human wave militias and rebels go against organised forces
The gekkos are pretty terrifiyng in this scene
I'm still loling at the fact they still use the watermelon easter egg xD
wait.. doesnt make sense.. his vest was worn over his robes, yet the robes come flying off!
He's a sailor scout. He did a magical girl transformation.
The vest was actually not a vest, his robe just has octocamo to make it appear that way.
" *Moo.* " (Gekko, 2014)
why do the mech things sound like cows?
Because it's a Hideo Kojima game. That's why.
Horror, it sends unsettling signals
My assumption is that they used cloned cow brains as cyborg brain CPUs.
GEKKOS
Metal Gear Moo
The octocamo was genius.
2 Gekkos, ok time to drop my cig!
Snake was born a weapon; to stop Metal Gear. The sight of Old Snake still fighting in a world where Metal Gears are mass produced is tragic
@AlphaGodDamn4 He holds his hands like that because it's the standard position for CQC, regardless of what you're holding
What a masterpiece
Why did he check the gun using knife? Was he expecting a mine or what?

Awesome video, thank you for posting this. I think Snake is missing a rifle, but is holding his hands in the same posture.

I like how Unmanned bipedal weapons Gekko appear first time and other 2 saw Solid Snake to began chasing him and avoid getting killed by them
Moooo
What if the PMC is Diamond Dogs?
They can't be this bad
It’s very probable that Diamond Dogs were assimilated by some of the PMCs of the conglomerate of Outer Haven at some point.
lol already 12 years ago
Still feels sooooo modern
i need to replay this game ASAP!
0:18 so sorry .. :(
Can't hit him with an M3P .50Cal machine gun at 15 feet away but can instantly tie his leg up....
Why melons?!
To have the sensors pick up something.
If it wasn't for the melons, the geckos would have looked around and found snake
It's somewhat of a running joke in the MGS series.
I know it's a science fiction military soap opera, but I can never take those giants seriously.
Gekkos...UGGH
Always go back for the cigarettes
Uh guys....the frontal assault isn't going so well, maybe we try coming in somewhere else?
look how they massacred boy

maybe konami was planning to kick kojima out long before
