    Worked like a dream. I just cleaned / de scaled my Saeco coffee machine with citric acid solution. Steaming temperature is now back up to normal - about 40 seconds , after taking over 6 minutes to bring up milk to hot this morning. THanks

    With vinegar I run it through, heated as if water, with only vinegar.
    After I'm done, I always rinse 3 to 4 times through hot, with clean water to eliminate the vinegar taste. It has never failed, you mentioned repeated rinsing after the citric acid but not with the vinegar. Thus vinegar taste will be there, if you don't rinse 3 to 4 cycles with clean water after the vinegar.

    My Keurig stream was coming out slower than an old man's morning pee. Always heard about vinegar to clean coffee makes so I gave it a try. To my surprise, it did not change the flow and the Descale light stayed on. Next step, I tried citric acid and viola, it started out pumping the water out like a stud. Recipe: 2 Tbsp citric acid dissolved in 1 cup hot distilled water, then add 3 cups of cold distilled water for a total of 4 cups. Run it through the machine until empty. (For tough clogs, run it a couple of times then wait for 20 minutes and then run it again.) I rinsed out the coffee make with 1-2 carafes of cold tap water. Food safe citric acid has no odor and does not hurt silicon seals in the coffee maker unlike vinegar.

    • @marymatteson7779

      Why is it necessary to use distilled water?

    • @unclegeorge4629
      @unclegeorge4629 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@marymatteson7779 Distill water is pure water, H20, and is in itself a cleaner. It is used in making powdered drinks and medicines. Tap water could be used but tap water from city to city is so different in its make-up of dissolved minerals.

    • @DiscoFang
      @DiscoFang 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Chris Langton If the light is still on it may be because the steam valve was closed before the machine had completed it's cycle on it's own. Some instructions say to manually open and close the steam valve manually while the cycle is going but this will interfere with the process. Do a complete cycle of clean and rinse without touching anything until the tank empties itself each time.

      Vinegar dissolves the scale more slowly. And you need a lot of rinsing to get rid of the vinegar smell. So it's a little less convenient, but the end result will be just as good.

    I know everyone warns about vinegar, but I use it regularly and have never had a problem.
    I use straight white vinegar (5%) for my rinse aid in the dishwasher for at least 3 years now, and I've run straight vinegar through my coffee machine at least 5 times, though I do regularly run a clean cycle with watered down vinegar. Am I using weaker vinegar?
    Am I just lucky cuz I have a cheap Mr.Coffee that had no rubber seals to disintegrate, like the expensive bunns have? Just plastic and metal as far as i can see...
    Does the disintegration take like 10 years? Cuz in my experience, it is definitely not immediate as the warnings would have you believe (for the dishwasher anyway, as that clearly has a rubber seal, and i run at least 5 loads a week).
    Gonna try citric acid today cuz it would be much cheaper than vinegar!

    This is my 2nd Keurig coffee maker of this model. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxBrV-RbF5Nk0Rlt9i15aao-YMzqzTG8Vf The first worked fine for more than 2 years, and I could still get a decent cup of coffee out of it if I fiddled with it when I decided to replace it. The problem I had with my first unit was this: When attempting to brew a cup of coffee, the unit would either keep brewing until the coffee was undrinkable or it would not run long enough and the coffee produced was way too strong. I cleaned the unit as best I could but it did not help. So in the end it was just too much trouble to get a good cup of coffee out of it, so I decided to replace it with a new one, which has been working great since I unpacked it.

      Citric acid seems every bit as likely as vinegar to damage rubber, they're both acids. Citric acid could potentially be worse, as it would be easy to make the solution more acidic, or perhaps for traces of the citric acid powder to collect/sit on parts.

    • @captainotto
      @captainotto 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DoubleMonoLR Acids behave differently depending on what materials they come in contact with. Acetic acid (vinegar) is highly reactive with silicone rubber which is the main choice for food-grade seals and gaskets. Citric acid (lemon/lime juice or its commercially produced anhydrous crystal) does not react with silicone. That's why so many people say it's a bad idea to use it in coffee machines. And for the stainless steel components, citric acid is a well known pacification agent which dissolves iron from the surface of the steel and promotes the formation of a protective chromic oxide layer.

    For a fact, although the citric acid may "work on all coffee machine from the cheap manual ones to the expensive automatic coffee machines", the vinegar mix will destroy many of the automatics. You have to remember that vinegar is acetic acid. It destroys heating elements and other internal parts! PLEASE CORRECT YOUR VIDEO!!!!!!!! Maybe you have good intentions but don't know better, Or, maybe you work for an automatic coffee machine manufacturer and you want people to ruin their machine so they have to buy a new one?!?! Rich, what do you think people used before all these fancy descalers were invented? Vinegar....DILUTED and Citric Acid. Both food grade and both safe as long as they are diluted properly. You wouldn't want too strong of Citric Acid in your machine either. Acid is Acid - food grade is food grade. If either is too strong it will damage parts in the machines which is why he shows the proper dilution. The only difference between the descalers and this is the descalers contain a surfacant...detergent that removes the oil residue as well.
