    It's the closest in terms of winning margin - there were of course ties in 1969and 1991.
    It's also probably the greatest collapse from a leading position that's ever been seen in the Contest with the UK losing after being 14 points in front with two countries to vote; Belgium suffered a similar fate in 2003 but they were "only" 12 points in front with two to vote when they lost.
    The abiding image of Eurovision 1988 for me is the guy roaring with delight at Switzerland's victory at 6:56.

    • @luapslev5826

      Back then, the announcers weren't allowed to watch the voting on TV in case of partiality.

    • @Euroviking86
      @Euroviking86 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@luapslev5826 Actually it's more complicated than that. The jury spokesperson has to stay on the line and can hear everything that's going on, it's just that the members of the jury don't, and have no power to change their votes, otherwise that would indeed have been partial. There were many cases where the jury spokespeople gave clear hints that they knew what was going on.

    Surprising voting from France. Only one for Switzerland. And nothing at all for Luxembourg !
    I've noticed that quite often France and Luxembourg give low marks or no marks to French language songs, even when they are very good songs. In 1990 and 91, Luxembourg gave nothing to France who finished second. But France gave Luxembourg top marks in 1990 and they ended up way down in about 15th place. Not that I'm some sort of anorak or anything :)
