Bart, I am amazed that even though your video is one year old; its still more relevant and useful then the new material that's out there. Thank you explaining things in detail and for sharing your awesome tips :)
Great tips. Especially the one about shooting flat. I think many people dont use it because it looks kind of terrible if you dont edit it but man it gives so much more possibilities to tweak it in post editing.
Thanks Bart! I'm an absolute rookie when it comes to all things video, but through tips like yours I'm going to soak up as much as possible and try to get better every time I shoot.
As usual, a Professional Presentation.... without the his favorite music blaring in the background... as so many videos are now days. Thank for the 10 tips..... I've ben into photography for more than 40 years, and I'm going into using a Drone .... playing and getting the most out of it! I have to leave my photo studio behind and go into the field. No more Models or Table tops for awhile. Viewers note, he knows what he doing, I could tell within a few minutes. Bill Blast Photography (Ret.)
Thank you for the kind words! I hope these tips help you as you get into the drone photography business. Not only is it something clients are looking for more of these days, its also a ton of fun! I wish you the best of luck!
I’ve got to know your color grade love on the Sedona shots. I shoot a lot in the desert and anytime I want a beautiful blue sky like that, I get crazy yellows on the ground.
Chad, Thanks, this also is the first time I've actually commented on youtube. My true complements, as a very comfortable well paced informative piece. I'd personally try to keep my shot movements to two or 3 moves max vs adding as many as possible. But, I like the challenge and always open to trying new things. Thanks again, nice work!
Really excellent, there were 2 tips that I never heard about before, despite the large number of "10 tips ..."-type videos I've seen in the past ! Thank you!
Hey Bart, I dont give out compliments freely, But I've been looking for a helpful drone video like this pretty much all day. Your video is the most comprehensive so far. Thank you.
I flew my drone in a lot of different places when I first got it. I flew it around our towns water tower, the dam out by the lake, Tater Hill west of town, ponds, etc. My plan was to collect enough footage to import it into After Effects to lay down some really cool FX . Well, the first thing I noticed with most of my footage was I hardly had any where I flew long enough, straight enough. I flew the heck out of it, working the joysticks not going in one direction for very long at all. My plan was to fly through a 3D composited text title of my hometown. Well, I didn't fly in one direction long enough for the scene to work..lol...It's just some lessons I'm learning and having a more cinematic experience with it.
Thank you very much for very informative video.I just bought my first Drone and I am automotive photographer and videographer and excited to start doing some videos with drone.thank you again
Very good information. Not often you see someone that talks from a photographer/videographer point of view instead of the typical mediocre is good enough TH-cam film maker mindset
Awesome tips bro, very good advice. I am a beginner so I wanted to find something that would help me in the future when it comes to "making movie shots/cinematography" so your tips are a plus and very helpful and educational for someone like me who's looking to someday do the same thing your doing..... Thank you and God Bless.
Very good points! Just received my first drone (M2Pro). Having a strong still camera background (Sony a7rii), shooting RAW, and always manual mode, you touched on a number of critical items. Oh, I've never shot video before!
Thanks for all the tips Bart! I find it really enjoyable learning new camera techniques, and improving my footage. Kinda got the hang of how to deal with GoPro-footage now and waiting for my new Mavic Pro-drone to arrive (a new challenge to beat). I am trying to learn as much as I can about D-LOG and color-grading in Premiere etc. Would really appriciate if you could share your expertise on that on your channel! Thanks for sharing (thumbs up)
Amazing tips. I still don't understand completely all of them but most I got them. I am thinking about getting a drone and want to start creating a lot of beautiful visuals for my videos.
Hey Bart, Excellent video and advice. Its nice to see sharpness, tripod mounted video and dialogue that doesn't include "You guys out there". I particularly enjoyed the before and after post examples that were worth a thousand word. Well done Mate!
Thanks Bart for reducing my learning curve for drone photography! It surely takes work to get good shots! I was almost ready to can my drone out of frustration and dissatisfaction with my footage. I have subbed your channel! Thumbs up!
A lot of good tips here thanks. The ND filters are a big one from what I've seen on a few demos. and a polarising filter can be magic too. When I get mine, some filters will be included. I have seen one video where they use a 10K ND filter to get that fluffy motion effect from long photo exposures. The NDs come into their own though for slowing the shutter speed down to a desirable rate. "Must have #1" in bright conditions.
I definitely do wish my Phantom 4 had "tripod mode". You can emulate it by reducing the sensitivity of your control inputs, but I would love to have it as a specific setting.
Very nicely explained. I noticed the terminology you used was at times very technical, especially stop down, zooming out footage in post, boost shutter speed to compensate for the light. Many drone fliers don't know what these terms mean.
Great video dude! Awesome tips. One suggestion I'd have would be for you to list this tips out in your video description for those like me who'd like to quickly review them once more at the end! Or list them out/re-state them at the end of your video. I'm about to get my first drone (leaning towards Phantom 4 Pro) and excited to use your tips to get the most out of the aerial videography I aim to do here in Florida! Cheers
I'll add: use exposure histogram if drone app or R/C interface allow to properly expose image when using manual camera settings. Super-helpful along with using log format and ND filters to ensure you get best image you can. As an aside, a quick and dirty way to get best image quality when you don't have NDs and light is harsh is to increase frame rate to 60fps or 120fps and concomitantly increase shutter speed to 1/120 or 1/240 respectively, while holding iso constant. Works to an extent, particularly with log format files to get proper exposure. Of course, with higher frame rates you want to do a test with your camera to make sure quality of image is up to your expectation since most drone cameras hold data encoding rate constant so less information is being written to your memory card per frame (which could mean discernibly lower quality video at 60 or 120 fps) and sensor is having to scan more quickly (due to faster shutter speed).
Great essential Tips, up to the point without the looong blabla. Thank you very much Bart!
We are DEEPLY thankful for the time that you took to provide us with these extraordinary insights.
Bart, I am amazed that even though your video is one year old; its still more relevant and useful then the new material that's out there. Thank you explaining things in detail and for sharing your awesome tips :)
