I LOVE IT ❤❤ So glad she won! ❤ LOVE the traditional instruments, native language and other ethnic elements, the dark epic performance, the deep lyrics, the emotions that she gave us... everything ❤ My Slavic heart melts, greetings from Czech Republic! ❤
It’s all about that line “remember your ancestors but write your own history” . I also think it’s about to be grateful for your heritage and learn from other cultures to be united with the world
I think that the meaning of the song relates not only to Ukrainians but in principle to all nations of the world. In my humble opinion, Alina promotes very important values: 1. "one for all, and all for one" (be together, love your neighbor); 2. be aware of the scale of the "divine tragedy" (wars, climate change, hatred, racism, hunger, poverty, and many other problems) 3. and solve it strategically (Picasso's dove is not only about the peace against war, but in general about everything pure and noble, about love for nature, people, and oneself); 4. humanism (Shakespeare's books; or just Alina's biographical mention that her parents didn't have enough money for baby dolls, and books have been "these toys" (which is very important, now fewer people read books as they did before)); 5. to leave a legacy (don't "swim with the stream", don't be indifferent, don't live in the past, and by remembering old good days, but "write your history" now). In general, this list can be continued as you feel. Also don't forget that the mentioned figures are from France, Italy, Spain, Great Britain, and Germany - the founding countries of Eurovision & the host country of this year's contest. No doubt that many listeners will be able to find an example or even, let's say, a kindred spirit, in the names of great people, which will make the song even closer to the audience. It's just WOW! I have goosebumps every time I listen to "Shadows"...
Actual song. Ancient Ukraine gave rise to the most powerful state in Eastern Europe - Kievan Rus (not to be confused with Russia), gave rise to many dynasties of the kings of Europe. But it was captured and divided among other empires of the Middle Ages and lost its independence. And now we are in Ukraine like in a song "We write our history and remember our ancestors"
I guess someone has already put the description of lirics below, but I would like to leave my understanding of her motive: This song is ringing for me not from the release, accidentally I figured that an artist - Alina, has something special in her art, she is a visionary person on my opinion. The lirics in general may become one of the columns for the bridge, which will deliver Ukrainian culture from the sorrow of multiple historical losses (Anthem starts with "Ukraine is still alive, as well as Glory and Freedom" describing a state of mind) to a new era, era of fast growth and development for the country, nation, people individually. At least I want to hear this kind of ideas in this and some others newest compositions
At the moment this would be THE BEST at Eurovision this year. Im really sure it would have scored very high and probably won. Sad and somehow unfair that Ukraine has to suffer so much under Russias Autocrary. Russian citizens suffer as well.
I understand why people chose Kalush though, their song and performance were more personal and natural, why Alina's song was more broad and performance looked more forced. That doesn't mean that she is a bad artist though.
Did the song came from a English speaking country or did it start in English Do you really think someone who speaks English would think a song from Ukraine would be English
@@foreignreacts I mean if u react at Eurovision you should know that there are a lot of countries that sings in English , even though this countries aren't English speaking one
Not gonna lie i somehow don't see good contestants for Ukraine this year. I don't say songs or singers are bad but i feel they are not for Eurovision. This song, for instance, is a song targeter specifically for ukrainian listener. It's fine song, i liked it but i doubt other will rank it high compared to all those songs from different countries.
I'm not from Ukraine but from the other side of the continent and I adore this song. So much emotion and tradition and all of it (mostly) in the native language. This is very high in my ranking

Ukraine is for love and peace.
Remember you’re ancestors, but write you’re own history.
A message for humanity.
Yeah, but when russia came with bombs e.t.c. It's not about blabla peace. It's about live or die. We fight, and we will
Спасибо за поддержку! Да нам страшно и мы в опасности. Но мы все еще поем свои песни, так как мы есть.
