We are finally making progress on the 280z build! For today's video we start assembling our built L28 engine. We installed the brand new ITB's and header... but quickly found out that the header did not work with our ITB's... back to the drawing board!

ITBs and triple carbs are not the same thing. ITBs only let air in, while Carbs mix fuel and air together. I'm old school and prefer carbs and plan on converting mine to carbs.
Still has an individual throttle butterfly for each runner though (although paired)???
That setup is way before his time. Hopefully they take it in to get tuned and not attempt to do it themselves. Trying to tune and sync a triple carb setup like that is not a simple task.
Came to say the same lol. ITBs are for electronic fuel injection. These are just straight up triple carbs
@@tropicalparsoon Yes. They share the same fuel bowl though (ITB don't have fuel bowls) it sits between the 2 venturi pathways. ITBs usually are completely separate. So for instance, for this set up he would have 6 ITB vs the 3 twin carbs he has.

Dustin, please make Egypt a full vid. We want to see you and Tianna having fun outside of cars sometimes, make the vid informative and I'm sure we will happily watch. Especially the hidden compartments in the Sphinx that Edgar Cayce spoke of.
Another thing to look for on Z headers is the port shape. You have a square port head and trying to use round port headers. My 76 Z has the square port head as well and I made the same mistake originally. Unfortunately square port headers aren’t as common as the round port headers to find. Not too difficult to locate though, just less options.

Since its individual runners why not cut that one runner that touches and have it welded with bit more angle to clear ..that way you keep what you already have and minimize down time .

Call z-car garage. He’ll know what works and should have a resource for items you still need. They rule and in SoCal
Just heat and bash the bit of the header to clear the intake manifold. Engine Masters show proved it doesn't really affect HP

If you can't find a header that works just smack it with a hammer until it clears... Hot rodders do it all the time. If your subscribed to Motortrend+ you can watch the engine masters episode where they show that it doesn't hurt performance to do a little clearance bashing on the exhaust.

the race rig i had was a F450 with sleeper cab with a 40 foot fifth wheel trailer man was that a nice set up had a place to live out of and trailer was fully built in with a full equipped shop inside of it.
that engine is coming out clean... and yea you rite when everything is button up its gonna sound mean, cant wait to hear her start up... enjoy your adventures in egypt!!!!

Should cut and reweld the headers so it clears the itb. Just that one pipe
Don't forget your mechanical fuel pump that runs off the timing chain. Any L-Series can be swapped to run carbs.
I’d strongly suggest a tandem axle trailer. Basic trailer tends to be more of a headache towing long distance. Buy a good one once and be done.
I had a Haulmark 34’ and towed across country multiple times and was amazing

I have heard you are not supposed to run round port headers on square ports. You can run square port headers with round port heads though.

Have you tried looking into kameari headers I’m pretty sure they’re design for a triple carbed l series

Ur definitely going to get little car ramps when my dad was alive and he raced his 1969 nova ss in nhra he had to small car ramps so nothing happened to the tires and the front end
Make sure you get a square port header no round port
If you can’t find headers that fit just take a mallet to those ones.

Ti think you should at least ceramic coat the headers and maybe the ITB inlet runners just to stop any heat soak I know it's not a high power car but will look sweet my 180SX has had it for over 15yrs and still looks the same as day one.

you really should consider heat coating your exhaust manifold or installing a heat shield considering it’s drastically changing your intake temps

THE RANDOM CUT TO EGYPT 😅 I'm pretty sure alot of people got thrown off.
It's weird how the intake is on the same side as the headers. makes more sense if the intake was on the other side like most cars to keep it cooler.

Be careful with the Spanish webers, the castings are not the greatest and the floats are not set right outta the box. OER 45s would have been a better option as it is a more modern well made carb.
Can’t you just place spacers on the intake or headers 🤔
So how much does the headers temps affect the intake temp and is there anything you can do to keep the heat away
Wrap the Headers
Feel like there will be a lot more heat produced by the way he drives, need more than wrap lol
