Because they're more powerful, subjectively sound better, and provide the true american muscle vibe that real enthusiasts crave. I own a 2015 5.0 myself but I don't hate the v6, it just doesn't compare to the v8 by performance standards. I can get 16 MPG in the city with fairly conservative driving; Not great, but not the worst.
I went from the 2016 V6 to the 2017 V8. Its a new world man the sound is so so good and it hauls ass so much on that first and second gear pull its insane. However coming from a V6 I cannot hate it. Its a powerful car, better bang for your buck (V6 300hp arouns $17k now whereas a subaru 250hp is $30k+) than even the V8. Miss my silver stang V6
kkthxk The minute the 3.7 Cyclone went into the car in 2011, that car developed quite the following. Lots of online groups dedicated to those motors. Plenty of all-motor 3.7s running in the 12's on TH-cam.
kkthxk Personally I would prefer the V6 over the 4 cylinder. I just prefer normally aspirated engines. Of course the V8 would be my number one choice and is what I plan to get in my next Mustang.
The V6 is an awesome buy for a lot of people. That 3.7 is one of the best motors the Mustang has ever had in it, including V8's. Forged crank, reinforced block, 6-bolt main bearings...just to name a few. Fords arbitrary decision to not offer a Premium or Performance Package with it was too bad.
I drive a 2017 v6 and I love it. Sure its not as impressive as a v8 but I'm ok with that. I'm content with driving a v6 and I don't really care what other people think. You don't have to like it. After all, I bought it for me so all you v6 haters can suck it. Just leave me the fuck alone.
Nice review. I just bought a 2016 Mustang V6 with the automatic. I chose the V6 over the Ecoboost because the horsepower rating is with regular unleaded & not Premium like the ecoboost. The V6 makes 300-hp on regular vs 275-hp on the ecoboost on regular. Insurance for me was identical on both cars. Maybe because I'm 51 years old. This is the best Mustang I've ever owned by far.
My dad just tuned his ecoboost. SOB nearly gave me a whiplash because i wasnt expecting it. Tune alone put the torque numbers similar and honestly it might be slightly higher then the GT.
No. Ground speed is correct, as speed relative to ground. Air speed, or IAS (Indicated Air Speed) is done via a propeller or pressure differential to measure speed, and changes with altitude.
I guess what I meant to say was the dial should say airspeed if they are trying to make it airplane like, as the dial or indicator in an airplane reads IAS as you said (indicated airspeed).
jtkent28 No, there are two indications, air speed and ground speed. Ground speed is more precise, therefore as this is directly measured from the ground, this is correct.
Great video man, thanks for reviewing the V6 version. I've been looking at this version for a while now and it is the only mustang I could really afford, plus I really love V6s so it was really good to see a review of one.
My first mustang was a ‘98 V6 5 speed. I put dual flowmaster exhaust and it was a blast to drive. I was 20 and insurance for a V8 was crazy so I had a lot of fun with my V6.
As a proud owner of a 2015 V6 mustang, I would honestly like to know something. How is there less mod potential for the V6 versus the Ecoboost? All I have to do is slap on a procharger and get an extra 130-160HP more than it has, putting it at 460HP. The ecoboost is already turbocharged, so there's not much more you can do to it. I can also upgrade the exhaust, get new headers, H or X pipe, pulley system, and cool air intake with a bigger throttle body. I could EASILY get my V6 up to 500-550HP to the rear wheels. I'm no mechanic, so maybe I'm mistaken, but it would just seem to me that if you put the same turbocharger in the V6, it would demolish the 4 cylinder in speed and power, no to mention all the other mods I threw out there. I love this car, by the way! Amazing handling and so much fun to drive! I have the automatic, but putting it in standard mode and using the paddle shifters is really awesome as well! I've had so much fun with it. Anybody who is more experienced than I on this subject, please weigh in. I'd like to know more. Thanks!
***** Well, here me out. At least here in Texas, the V6 start around $26K, while the Ecoboost starts around $29-$30K. With that extra $3-$4K saved on the V6, would you not be able to turbo or supercharge the V6 and make it much more powerful than the Ecoboost? A supercharger should give at LEAST an extra 100HP. The procharger claims to give an extra 160HP. After that, the other mods aren't too expensive. Like some headers, H pipe, upgraded exhaust, cold air intake, a pulley system, and a tuner. Could a 4 cylinder even handle all of those mods, and even if so, could it put out as much or more power than the V6 using the same mods? Just doesn't seem plausible. But again, I'm no mechanic. I could absolutely be wrong here.
***** Also, I absolutely LOVE my V6. Even it being a completely base model, it feels like it's got so many upgrades. I feel like I'm sitting in a cockpit of an aircraft while driving it, haha! Then again, I'm not use to having all of the extra stuff. My main vehicle is a Toyota Tundra (which I hate, but need for work). I've never had a vehicle with so many extras. It does not feel like a base model at all.
U dont need a turbocharged. With ur V6 stock u can beat an EB. The thing is dat u "feel" faster on the EB. But like i said is only a feeling. Check the video of AmericanMuscle, 2014 v6 vs 2015 EB. There is no comparison.
300 Hp and 280 ft. lb is no joke. V8 Mustang GT's only had 260 in the early 2000's. I would say today, V6 is the choice. Remember these are now MID-level engines, not entry level. the 2016 Camaro is going to have 335. Something a v8 owner could only wish for stock just a few years ago.
good review. I just bought a new 2016 and have to say I went in ready for ecoboost, but opted for V6 for several reasons. first, regardless of HP or power band it's still just a 4 banger. The V6 works less and will have a longer life. second, ecoboost is just a new name for a turbo and they have the potential to break down. third, the sound of the V6 is a nice warm rumble whereas the eco sounds like a ratty little 4 cylinder when you rap out the accelerator. gas mileage difference is little as I think eco drivers will be more likely to be "dipping in" to the power around town. You're absolutely right about the interior. The standard carbon fibre dash is 10xs better looking than the cheesy brushed silver looking premium dash as is the white stitching on the seats over plain leather. Mine also came with the auto trans and paddle shifter, which is a must! With the difference in cost I was able to get it in convertible which is without a doubt the single most pleasurable feature of any car. After 2 days I love it even more than the first. I think the V6 is a proven classic and the market 10 years from now will be flooded with burnt out ratty 4 cylinder ecos.
I agree with you 100%! I've never looked at the V6 in that way, you my friend have transformed my mindset from getting a EcoBoost® to a V6 and save the extra bucks!
You nailed it. I went to buy a '17 ecoboost premium and left with a v6 fastback. I even made the sales guy take 2 different ecoboosts out, just to be certain. In the end, the v6 was more fun to drive, about $8k less expensive (NY prices), sounded better, and I had greater confidence in the reliability department. The fuel economy is a gimmick imo, and if you put 93 in a v6 it will give you a little extra hp and performance anyway. As far as the options go, I wasn't impressed with the leather and I find big infotainment screens very distracting. The v6 offers everything you need in a daily sports car. It's plenty fast and you save money which can be used for mods. Really, the only downside is dumb kids constantly asking if it's a GT.
Thank you for reviewing a v6! I have a 2012 v6 Camaro and they can be forgotten, even though they are incredible standalone cars. Obviously a v8 is king, but there's something about revving out a v6 and hearing that sexy induction noise that does it for me. I prefer naturally aspirated engines and you can't beat the Camaro/Mustang for the money. I'm tempted to get a Mustang someday because of the interior quality and visibility...however I love my Camaro and I've had zero issues with it.
I own a 2016 Mustang V6 and highly recommend it over the ecoboost. The V6 exhaust sounds like the V8.... sounds soooo much better than the ecoboost and this engine is actually a few tenths quicker 0-60 than ecoboost. I have raced a couple ecoboost mustangs and every time I pull ahead slightly despite the advertised peak HP ratings on paper being slightly higher on the turbo 4. Less to break down the road with a N/A engine. And better throttle response off the line too. V8 is nice but less than 1 second quicker to 60 and like $6k more plus higher insurance? Not worth it. This car will smoke 99% of cars on the road. I got the 051 package which gives you fog lights, premium rims and some other stuff... remote start etc.
+morphanok69 I love it. The selling point for me was the V6 engine sounds like the V8, much more so than the ecoboost. Ecoboost sounds like any other ford 4cyl. Sure the V8 is better but again for $6k more, and less than 1 second quicker 0-60, I'll take the V6 with the lower insurance rates. Car looks identical to the V8 minus the badging. I do recommend the 051 package which includes upgraded rims, fog lights and a few other things, power seat etc. Btw remote start is standard on automatics along with paddle shifters, not available on manual.
I've got a 2015 V6 convertible, it's really been a great car, and it's got the option package that includes nicer wheels, driving lights and power seats (which I could do without). It's been very reliable (except for Sync... Sync sucks). A couple of years ago I was able to take it on a Route 66 trip... North Carolina to Chicago to LA then north to San Francisco and home. Over 8,000 miles and for one or two people I can't think of a better modern car for the trip.
It is true, the Mustang is a great car all the way from the base to the 350R. Personally I like the sound of a lighter front end and more torque (40 more lbs ft isn't nothing) in the eco boost, but no doubt the base model is a 10/10 for the price. Great value!
Won't fit is my guess. The 3.5 EB actually takes up more space then the 5.0 and it is already a tight fit in the 15. I'm guessing the 2.7 ran into other clearance problems. Didn't want to redesign the engine so they dropped in the 2.3l that they were developing for the new focus.
I bought this car, with the fog lights, in 2015. It is now 2021 so I thought I'd share a comment on my experience. I still love this car. The cloth seats are a good feature as they are very strong and still look new. Leather seats tend to get worn and baggy with age. I wish Ford had continued with the V6. It has a strong engine and like the entire car very robust. Mileage is surprisingly good and it has a lot of power when compared to my 2020 Hyundai Santa fe. My Mustang has very low KM's as it is not winter driven. One paint bubble on the hood is my only complaint. Still great value and I would not trade it for a newer model.
Matt, I really enjoy your reviews. Thanks for all. the effort you put into informing us on all your test drives. BTW...this review of the V6 Mustang has really helped in making my decision to try and find a Mustang V6, manual transmission that's been taken care of and a reasonable price. (Before seeing this review I was considering buying a Camaro). Keep up the great work!
Manifest I think these new auto transmissions actually get you better mpg than the manual now a days.... you should get it checked out bro... I had leased a 5.0 and the mpg was horrible took it in it ended up it had an internal gas leak...
Great review. Thanks for reviewing the V6, like you said, it's hard to find a good review about this model. Definitely worth trying it before deciding which mustang to buy.
frabadob Seriously?? Well you're either a Chevy fan or European to be spouting useless dribble like that. This vehicle is neither slow, nor a heap of shit, and would make a great first car. If anything really, its a little too powerful for a teen's first car...
frabadob Not every person who buys the car is on the street racing. Some people DO buy them just because they like them, always wanted one etc. Some of you people seriously act like it's only about racing, I enjoy racing but some people just like the car.
I think you should learn driving before getting a fadt car like this it's too much for a teenager, come on it's a V6 get a 4 cylinder maybe turbocharged and then after 1 or 2 years you'll get something else
2 reasons i would get the v6 over the ecoboost. 1. If someone asks "What kind of Mustang you got?" You have to reply "I got that ecoboost." It just sounds embarrassing to me. 2. The ecoboost doesn't sound as good as a v6.... unless you got an aftermarket exhaust. But you could do that to the v6 as well.
i have a v6 and most ppl who have the ecoboost refer to it as the turbo 4 since it isnt even a true "ecoboost" vehicle. flash tune it for 400 with the new Unleashed tuner and its faster than a GT. that being said i wouldnt trade my v6 for it.
I rented one from Hertz in Maui and took it to one of Hawaii's twistiest roads. This car is not bad and did pretty well for what it is. The IRS makes a huge difference from the good 'ole solid rear end, as I was impressed with its new found handling. The interior is no where near luxurious but it's livable even when traveling for long periods. I never felt tired or cramped up from it. The stereo is better than my Subaru stereo (any stock Subaru is worse than any other stereo anyway). Visbility kinda sucks, especially the rear quarter window that keeps me looking more than I should when changing lanes. The rear seating is way to small for the average person because the fastback type rear window sits very low. Unless your only passengers are midgets or kids, stay away from the back or just have one person ride with you because it's not comfortable at all back there. Power delivery is linear and slow building so to speak. Coming from a 2015 STI which in stock form just punches you in the face with torque and boost, the V6 Mustang just had a gradual powerband. My wife was more terrified of me ripping through corners than going fast on the straights with this Mustang. Overall, it's a great bargain and a fun rental car. 3/5
You need to take many things into consideration, do you have good credit? For example I am 19 my parent co signed. Take someone who is good at negotiating otherwise they'll try to hustle you. My v6 had a sticker price of 26 k but ended up at 2.9% interest rate. Paid Around 30 k. You could always wait a year I'm sure they'll be 20 k in a year. Regardless I love my v6! And my GT.
The v6 is the base model they don't offer any packages for it. There main focus this year it seems was the Eco boost and GT. but that is a high interest rate for a while dude, I think you might end up paying a bit more than 23 k. I got mine 30 k after all fees and extended warranty.
What i enjoy the most about this guy is his genuine excitement for every vehicle I've seen him review! Kudos to you for doing what you love! Much Respect! #NewFan
The new looks on the mustang has officially grown on me though I love the previous front headlights just SLIGHTLY better. Nice review and can you possibly review a '14 Camaro 1LT RS or a 2LT. I've seen you review a '10 RS but this one is updated, New engine and interior. Thanks!
i ended up buying this car. roush exhaust, intake bkk ceramic headers and a few other mods and this car costing me under 26k gives me extremely good performance and enjoyment
+Mr Perez I also own the v6. As my first "manual sports car" coming from a 240 hp first car, it's pretty quick! The tires chirp through manual gear shifts, and it has plenty of power for the streets. It also sounds pretty good stock! The low RPM's have a nice deep burble, while the high revs sound very satisfying.
I spent 33 thousand dollers on a covertible 2015 mustang 2 months ago my sister borrowed it last week when she got her licence she totaled it by ramming into a tree by "trying avoid hitting a branch" i have not spoken to her since she still owes me around 32 grand
I think that V6 sounds much sweeter than the ecoboost. You can hear the induction when the motor starts breathing properly about half way through the rev range.
I drove the EB. didn't like it. Maybe because I'm a V8 guy. I floored the pedal and I fell like the car was doing so much afford to go fast. Everything happens when you hit 3rd gear. Don't get me wrong. Great car. But coming from a 2012 modified GT makes things slower.
I test drove both the Ecoboost and V6 and preferred the V6 as it sounded like a real engine with linear power delivery vs. the piped in digital sound of the Ecoboot (EB), which is video game like. Ford heavily marketed the Ecoboost as part of their plan to phase out the V6 in support of ecofriendly 4-cylinder and just about everyone took the bait. Take notice of things ford did improve the speed of the Ecoboost 1) EB final drive ratio is higher than the V6 in stock form, ford published power figures were based on 87 octane for V6 and 93 octane for the ecoboost. Finally, the EB with its added complexity of a turbo will cost more long term to maintain - more moving parts.
nice review. you actually drove it hard. picking one up as a daily driver,. you can always throw a turbo on it later. that color has grown on me. enjoyed your honest review.
bought one today....it does feel soft on takeoff but then comes on strong.....very noticabley larger than the 2011 I used to have.....so far I love it...
V6 option is really underrated. I have a 13 V6 and with just an MPT 93 tune and Catbacks have run neck and neck or beaten "tuned and modded" ecoboost cars at the track making supposedly 400+ lb/ft of torque. In all out acceleration once you get above 4K rpm the ecoboost is out of its power band anyway and after first gear that's where you spend all your time. Around town the instant torque of the Ecoboost might be nice. But the MPG of the ecoboost is not that great unless you baby it. Just saying. From personal experience I have been overall unimpressed by the ecoboost. Plus I haven't heard a nice sounding one yet
But once you have a MPT tune it really wakes up the 3.7. I got mine and yeah definitely worth it. Keep in mind its 300HP at the crank, if you want to feel that full 300 you'll need a tune. Stock at the wheels is about 250HP. So if you really want to open her up, get a tune and see 300 to 310 at the wheels. Essentially about 350 at the crank
***** My ecoboost smoked 4 gts already... sorry...Air raid intake , bama tuned, ford racing cat back (borla), 3.73 gears, and im still only 28000 $ in ...... that's about 12 k less than the gt.... I can do a lot more with those 12k.....
I've driven both and the V6 is the way to go, especially since at the end of the year when the 16s come out, the V6s will be in the 19K range after incentives. That's $2K more than a base Corolla. It's an econobox destroyer at that price and an incredible option for daily commuting. Also, the Ecoboost gets worse gas mileage if you hypermill. It's virtually impossible to keep the turbo off and eek out maximum mpg short of completely flat ground, as the ecoboost has NO power with the turbo off, and with it on, it's getting 23-24mpg as near as I can tell. It's tricky to drive efficiently as a result. The Ecoboost would spin up on slight hills that the V6 dealt without needing to downshift (if barely). One thing, though - do use premium in the V6. The extra MPG and power compensates for the extra few cents a gallon and makes hypermilling much easier. I get 26mpg combined commuting in my V6, and 32-34 on the occasional road trip. Lastly, pay the money for the tri-coat paint. It won't fade half as fast.
Glad to hear. How are you liking it? Do upgrade to the 18 inch tires if you can - when I had to do this, I swapped out for a new set of 18" take-offs from a GT. Huge handling difference. The car's suspension and speedometer are calibrated for the 18" tires as well. They made them virtually identical to the Ecoboosts and GTs underneath to save on tooling and make modifications simple. It was a late run decision to drop the performance package from the option list. Thankfully it's easy to add the tires and upgrades back in if you want.
Is this a good first car? I want it for lease and i also love the fact that it looks great, and SUPER cheap for such a great looking car. SOMEONE HELP.
+YO YO a car with this much power and rwd isnt the best first car but its reliable. i have it now and its great but u can go fast a lot sooner than u think
I just bought the 2016 Ecoboost in black with premium package. And was very close to buying the V8 but decided against it. The V6 was never in consideration for a few reasons. First you cant get the premium package on it which you can on ecoboost base model and GT base model. The premium package takes the car to another level with all the features. Not saying the V6 is bad but you have to sit inside one to really know. I had the ecoboost with premium package as a rental for a week then went in and test drove the V6 and the GT without premium package. I was happy with the V6 and GT until I got inside and saw all that nice technology and leather missing. Also plan on getting the exhaust upgraded for my ecoboost. Also the ecoboost get better gas mileage then the V6.
***** your logic makes no sense. Whether its an import or domestic either a supercharger or turbo doesnt make it rice or muscle. Whats your saying is just ignorance. Also because an engine is bigger doesnt make it better. If your going for a 10000 hp car yeah a bigger engine just makes sense. But anything under 2000hp alot of smaller engines can achieve the same as a bigger engine.
JIMBO SLICE For starters this car is faster than every Lexus on the road save the LFA, it has the same power as the precious RC350 F but is lighter and therefore faster. So yeah my comment is plenty valid amigo
I'm car shopping right now... Would you recommend the V6 or the Ecoboost Premium? It's going to be my first car I love technology so that's why I'm considering the Premium
People who aren't a fan of the ecoboost are stuck in the past. Turbo charged four pots are the way of the future when it comes to power / gas mileage ratios. People seem to just be sticklers for naturally aspirated engines because that's what they know.
Agreed. My little 2010 GTI with its little 2.0 turbo will smoke the pants of many unsuspecting sports cars drivers. I think it's when cars traditionally known to have V8's or big naturally aspirated engines come out with new power plants people get all sour. But 1000 years from now what will their cry be? No no no I don't want the cold fusion nuclear photon powered propulsion engine capable of 5,000 hp, give me the V8 option please!
I like the EB but bought the V6. There are small issues with the EB that made the V6 a more viable option for me. The biggest is the sound... I'm sorry but some people have a problem with a turbo 4 sound coming out of a mustang. For me though it was also about the EB requiring 93 octane to achieve its power numbers. At that point the price difference between 87-93 negates the fuel savings of the EB. Not to mention the fact that not everyone has easy access to 93. (my area at most carries 91, usually 89). My V6 stock was pumping out 300hp on 87 when the EB can only manage 275hp. For me the V6 is just more enjoyable and economical. Maybe in 2018 I will get an EB but for now I love my 6!
I agree with turbo and the power and economy advantages they have, however I would still pick up the 3.7 over the 2.3 for a few reasons: the 3.7 is cheaper, the 3.7 has been around long enough to build a following for performance parts, the 3.7 also has a strong reliability record and finally as my mechanic (Performance shop he's helped me build my old ss cobalt and my current Scion tC) stated when you buy a car with a turbo set aside $3000 because at 100,000km your turbo will need a rebuild. He's made a lot of money off of Subaru wrx and vw gti for their higher maintenance. My next car will either be this 3.7 stang or a civic si. Depending how these stangs handle the winter months will be the deciding factor. The 2.3 would be a great car for a enthusiast reminds me of the old supras and 300zx but I think the lower maintenance and ownership cost still warrants the v6 a life span and hopefully Ford decides to give it a few options as well I'd love to see the recaros and performance pack make it back or at least a premium pack. As is a good bargain.
Colin King Ford isn't making that mistake again being stuck in the past with the old American thinking about it all being about displacement. At the same time, you have to wonder how reliable the turbos are (carbon build up, octane sensitivity).
what really makes me laugh about the 2015 v6 is that ford detuned the v6 when they added the ecoboost so they could say the ecoboost makes more power and sell it for a higher sticker price. The 2011-2014 v6 are quite a bit quicker than both 2015 ecoboost and v6, 5 more HP and lighter.
Nice drive. What makes the car fun is the manual transmission. Very very hard to find a 2015 to 2017 V6 with a manual. Most of them were rental cars with the automatic. Too bad Ford did not continue to develop this engine. It could easily have had 330 hp with 300 ft lbs of torque and still get 25+ mpg. Less complicated than a 4 cyl turbo. Oh well. An electric Mustang in a few years may be the best solution. If Camaro and Challenger can continue to offer a V6, why not Ford?
Its hardly better on gas and the powers the same just slightly better low end torque. eco requires premium for max performance as well so its not so clear cut. And the Eco engine sound isnt the greatest
Machoukas manual v6 weighs less than the ecoboost, ecoboost loses 13-15% of it's power output on regular gas, v6 makes full power on 89, it's a proven reliable engine meanwhile ecoboost owners are bellowing smoke out of their tail pipes, worried about carbon build up on the valves due to DI as they can't be cleaned easily on a turbo car and a majority of owners are reporting engine lights due to misfires causing their cars to run rough at times due to the ecoboosts sensitivity to fuel grade.. plus it's a new unproven engine which has some fueling issues for big power so to make it really fast will require a sizeable investment in fueling solutions, all new piping, intercooler (already needs a better intercooler stock) and a bigger turbo and then you might have to change the internals anyway as it's not as strong as hoped... I wanted an ecoboost, now I'm more inclined towards the v6.
LOVED IT!! Thank you so much! Like you say, the press simply dismisses the v6. Thanks to your (and others) reviews, I decided to go with the v6. My e92 328i made 230hp, I think I can learn to survive with 'only' 300 from my mustang. 8-). Who'd have thought it, moving up from a BMW to. a Mustang at half the price.
Thanks for reviewing!! I just ordered my 2015 V6 with the wheels/fogs/seat package, manual trans and the optional 3.55 rear axle gears. As fun as the turbo power delivery can be, I prefer the NA build-up till redline and the sound is so much nicer.
Alec Fortin Nice! I also considered the BRZ/frs. I think one would be fun! I just needed more practicality and the mustang helped with that (plus more power lol!).
Driv3n to Dr1ve ya i picked it up yesterday i love it so far its fast enough for me and im skinny so i dont need much room so it fits me perfectly; everyone says the sound system is terrible on them since i got the base 2013 model but its really not that bad i just had to tune it a bit and it was pretty good
Definitely one of the videos that influenced my recent car purchase. Just got me a 2017 V6 Mustang in ruby red with the 6-speed manual. (Up from an 02 V6 5 speed)
Its always funny to hear people down talk a car they don't even own! lmfao unless you have either model please STFU. I have a V6 and with gears, tune, shorty headers, exhaust you're good to go. I raced a ecoboost last weak and the only advantage was his was a manual. I walked him down but car is governed at 120
I have the 2015 V6. My friend has a 2015 GT. Both automatics. The other day we had time and he finally let me drive it. I was not impressed. The GT felt heavy and sluggish. My V6 feels light and more balanced. The exhaust note was nice though, he has the Pypes exhaust.
Test drove an ecoboost (from my dealer) and was great! test drove my friend's v6 (with roush axleback and a cold air) and man that was astonishing, the power... the sound... the v6 felt wayyy more capable (it was alll i needed). that is coming from a 13' GT stang owner.i am trading my GT for a 15 v6 that should arrive in around 2-3 weeks left from now =) cant w8t! you cant go wrong with whichever though a mustang is a mustang, looks great! for me however it goes like this [ ecoboost < < v6 < GT ]. problem with the ecoboost, its not reliable and ul see what im talking about in a couple of years. the ecoboost sound didn't really impress me either not even with the best after market mufflers or setup.
ive read some people say the 15 v6 has more torque down low than the 11-14's did? i've only owned 2 11-14 v6s and the low end torque was definitely lacking, you have to wind it out for sure, mods and a tune help this but i was wondering if you've driven both and have you noticed more low end torque on the 15 or about the same? your review mentioned a lack of the low end torque....
It does. The new intake manifold (and probably exhaust resonator) shifts the powerband down and it makes about the same torque at 2500 rpm as it used to at 3500 rpm. See link: www.mustang6g.com/forums/showpost.php?p=446754&postcount=1 I've driven the prior gen and it felt pretty sluggish on the low end, especially with the 2.73 axle ratio that comes standard. Base ratio on the new one is 3.15 and you can option to 3.55.
i've driven a couple 11-14's including a 2.73 rear one and that was a waist of time, i had one PP one with the 3.31's and my other one had the optioned 3.31, i thought i read the powerband was about 500 rpms sooner than the previous gen v6's, i'm curious to drive a 15 with the 3.55's and 6spd, i'm purchasing a stang when my ST is paid off and i want a GT but an optioned one is about 35k which is out of my range and i could possibly pick up a used 15 or 16 v6 in 5 years when my ST is paid off for 16-18k for about half the cost, just weighing my options as all the mustang platforms are great but twice the cost for a v8 might not be worth it if the low end torque and driving characteristics of the newer v6 is better, that was the only small complaint i had with my last 2 v6's, i plan mods like headers, catback, tune, and intake any ways
I find myself watching more and more of your videos, I'm in the market for a new car/my first REAL car lol so I keep watching your videos to kinda get an idea of what to expect before I take the trip to test drive the few I have chosen... But anyways, thanks for the previews! Haha keep it up brotha
Thanks for your videos, i've been enjoying for a long time. I am not sure if you could read this, but I need a bit of advise. So you reviewed the new gti too, and if you could be satisfied with the power output from the gti, is there a chance that you might have bought the gti instead of the mustang? I cant decide on either one of them. I love the perfection( mpg, corner stability, interior and so much more) of the gti, but I am sure that if I buy the gti, I am going to regret it whenever I see a mustang drive by. It is just beautiful. But I rather have understeer then oversteer, and in the new gti people hardly or almost never even feel the understeer. I just cant decide.. I used to ride bike, now I only drive an economy car, my fiance drives a Genesis coupe. I like the predictability of my car, but power output of her car. anything would help. Thank you. P.S I know its a little late, but congrats on your wedding
I'm a pretty tall guy, and was wanting an AWD car like an Audi A4 or a Subaru WRX. However, being tall, a tiny car gets a bit cumbersome to enjoy as a daily driver on the highway to work. Also, the WRX is a VERY NOISY car. How do think this car compares as being fun to drive/handling and cost of ownership goes?
I really wish there wasn't such a stigma with V6 stangs. I think the 6 fits the look and feel of the car just right. Sounds nice, fuel efficient, fast. I mean 300hp is nothing to shrug at. And lower insurance rates. You literally can't beat the value. If you want a weekend warrior get a V8 and drive it once or twice a week. But for a 21 year old college student. I will gladly take my cyclone, drive it every single day. Afford my daily coffee and a biscuit. And happily soar by your V8 when it's twin turboed. And look just as good as you do doing it.
Tyler Johnson the stigma is only for either V8 wannabees or keyboard warriors. Regular people, all chicks, and even some real GT owners will give props to the car, couldn't care less about 2 fewer cylinders.
This issue with the 4 Cyl mustang is that you have to be running 93 Octane in order to have the Horse power advertised if not then it's less HP than the V6
Speed is not that important to me. It may seem strange, but I am cross shopping the 2015 Mustang V6 against the 2015 Subaru BRZ. I have not driven either car yet, but will be soon. My next car must be fun to drive and handle well. Not far from my home are some excellent twisty roads and that's where you'll find me when I want to have some fun. It also must have enough power to get me safely on to the highway and the V6 has plenty of power to do that. I very much appreciate the small back seat of both cars for the ability to toss a jacket back there, or store a laptop on the floor etc. Pure 2 seat sports cars are nice, but I don't want to live with the extreme compromises. That is why I won't buy a used Porsche Cayman in the same price range, as much as I like the car.
+Robert Devoy BRZ sucks, my friend got it and is obsessed with my 2015 v6 stang to the point where i think he wishes he had it instead. Its honestly an amazingly fun car to drive. Meanwhile, the BRZ has half the power, literally of the v6. 200hp and 150 torque vs 305 hp and 280 torque. if u want a subaru get the wrx, the brz is a joke. very tiny too for passengers
@Robert Devoy I was in the same dilemma as you. I had a 2013 manual Scion tC and wanted to have a faster sportier looking ride so I looked into the 2015 BRZ since its damn near identical to the FRS, I went to the dealership and test drove it, the car was beautiful but when I took out on the street it was all bark no bite, there was absolutely no torque even in the lower gears so I ended up driving back disappointed but I was at a ford dealership so I seen the 2016 mustangs that I had in the back of my mind. I asked to test drive one that was a manual v6 since they were so affordable but all they had were the automatics so I test drive that instead and man it's like night and day, there was so much more torque and then I put it into sport mode and that was it I took it home as my new baby. So in my personal opinion I would chose the mustang like I did if you like the look of the car and want something with a lot more hp and torque. Although the BRZ handled very nice but no balls!!!
Thanks for he input it's been very helpful. I'm sure the BRZ is off my list of possibilities. For one thing the car is too damn noisy and it sounds like crap when revved. I'll either get the Mustang V6 or wait a bit for a used BMW 228.
Robert Devoy I own what he got too, an automatic v6. It turns way more heads than most cars out there especialy a brz. U cant even compare the two since the brz is not even a sports car, im pretty sure a fiesta st has more power tbh. its just light but like i said so is the wrx. Mustang handles very well with the new IRS suspension. The car just won Hottest car award at SEMA
As a 2013 V6 owner, I think Ford did a bad move by basically neglecting the V6 this year entirely. Hopefully when the new V8 comes out (or the Coyote is overhauled to have 450-500 hp if not more) then there will be an ecoboost V6. A turbo V6 now would no doubt come dangerously close to the GT in terms of performance, the GT right now is pretty bottle-necked since the entire car has been overhauled but the engine has remained relatively untouched. The I4 should take over as the base model, the eco V6 should be middle ground and take over the performance role of the GT, and the GT should have its price less restricted and be allowed to cost S40-55k and have performance almost comparable to the older GT500s. Another option would be to go the route of Dodge and offer multiple V8's (Doesn't the new Challenger have like 2 or 3 different V8 engines with multiple configurations? That's pretty insane).
I hate to say it but I prefer the sound of the V6 over the ecoboost.
Sorry :(
LOL!
This is news? The EcoBoost sounds like shit.
That V6 took me by surprise. Sounded much better than I thought I would.
Lol he doesn't respond to this comment
The v6 has less horsepower than the ecoboost doesn't it?
finally! a V6 review, tired of people avoiding it like the plague
lol
Anddddd now there’s a pandemic😂
@@DriftFTW-ns7nq aaaand its gone😂
funny the main people talking shit about the v6 can't even afford the v6......
eazyc404 V6 is less expensive than the ecoboost
Ikr why the hell do people want a v8? They are fuel eaters
@@Cornkake I don't hate V8 owners. Only just when some brag and hate on the v6
Ford really killed it with all the versions of the 2015 mustang. This base interior is better than my Limited Brz interior lol
Lol yeah, I dunno how ford is making any money off of them. The margins can't be too big haha.
kkthxk
The minute the 3.7 Cyclone went into the car in 2011, that car developed quite the following. Lots of online groups dedicated to those motors. Plenty of all-motor 3.7s running in the 12's on TH-cam.
***** They kept the v6 for fleets aka rentals ect.
cool story bro.
kkthxk Personally I would prefer the V6 over the 4 cylinder. I just prefer normally aspirated engines. Of course the V8 would be my number one choice and is what I plan to get in my next Mustang.
Just got the v6 today. Literally just got home from the dealership!! Transitioning from a Toyota into my second car and it's amazing.
Erfahn H Lol I transitioned from a 130hp sentra to a v6 mustang.... at least the Camry/Corollas aren't that bad,.
it was an 05 toyota solara lol
+Erfahn H Congrats man! Hope you're enjoying your ride!
What color is the mustang?
3BoOoDTV"That's what your mom last night"...ROFL
Pretty impressive how nice the base model is. That color really works on it as well.
You have been in US too long, it's 'colour' Nick ;)
Haha
BostonLegal21 it's spelled different in the US but pronounced the same nice try though.
ShadowThiHedgehog I know it is, that's why I said 'You've been in the US too long.' ;)
oh ok
The V6 is an awesome buy for a lot of people. That 3.7 is one of the best motors the Mustang has ever had in it, including V8's.
Forged crank, reinforced block, 6-bolt main bearings...just to name a few.
Fords arbitrary decision to not offer a Premium or Performance Package with it was too bad.
I love this channel but that intro has to go, very loud and obnoxious
Disagree
100% agree!
I agree...
Disagree, but maybe a change of music
I think he should just change the music.
The Ecoboost has 310hp and 320tq. And the V6 has 3000hp and 280tq.
+amg4330 wow 😂
My dad just tuned his ecoboost. SOB nearly gave me a whiplash because i wasnt expecting it. Tune alone put the torque numbers similar and honestly it might be slightly higher then the GT.
Yeah but the V6 is faster
Am I the only one who thinks these base wheels look great? Love the big ass sidewall look on this car with some clean 5 spokes.
Why does the speedo say "Ground Speed"? Does it have a seperate one for the boat feature or the airplane feature?
Haha it's because the Mustang was named after the P-51 Mustang airplane.
Well technically it should say "airspeed" then ; )
Forget what they say about the intro! Your intro makes me happy! And my happiness is far more important than their opinions!
People love to hate on the V6 but at this point in 2015, the base Mustang is such a great car loaded with so many features.
Thanks!
OneSickDrummer this is exactly what i thought. Maybe subaruwrxfan is a bit biased since he owns ecoboost.
***** Thanks man!
+harris3693 exactly!
This might be my next car.
ams914 no
Don't worry, going for GT now.
ams914 I would definitely go for GT but I'm kinda broke lol
Rubber Duggy v6 as i recommend vetter bang for ur buck
Don't ever get a v6 mustang or Camaro
+USARealMan177669 Its that badass of a car huh? I'm thinking about getting one
Btw remote start is standard on automatics along with paddle shifters, not available on manual.
i have a 15 v6 mustang as well. i wouldnt say it sounds like a v8 but it does sound really good. upgrade the exhaust and it sounds fking mean.
Malie had a v6 shorty headers and h pipe muffler delete its not that far off from my gt.. The v6 sounds closer to the 5.0s than the 4.6
The shorty headers
I've got a 2015 V6 convertible, it's really been a great car, and it's got the option package that includes nicer wheels, driving lights and power seats (which I could do without). It's been very reliable (except for Sync... Sync sucks). A couple of years ago I was able to take it on a Route 66 trip... North Carolina to Chicago to LA then north to San Francisco and home. Over 8,000 miles and for one or two people I can't think of a better modern car for the trip.
Never let the intro go! It's Iconic!
Yeah same, i can definitely fit 2-3 people in my trunk... do it regularly
8 if you chop'em up:)
Great review Matt! Glad to see someone cares enough to review the v6
It is true, the Mustang is a great car all the way from the base to the 350R. Personally I like the sound of a lighter front end and more torque (40 more lbs ft isn't nothing) in the eco boost, but no doubt the base model is a 10/10 for the price. Great value!
People are never satisfied. This V6 would beat a 5.0 87 fox body Mustang that everyone brags about. 300 hp 0-60 under 6 seconds, how much do you need?
Just asking...
Why didn't ford drop the Ecoboost V6 in the mustang?
Just a thought, but maybe they didn't want to step on GT sales?
MrGovenator1 MUH PRECIOUS 5.0L!
The new Ford GT is a 600hp EcoBoost V6
Unbearable Pain Think about it. That would have defeated the purpose of have the 5.0.
Hi there tell me now , some years later would you choose the v6 over the 4 cyl ??? Thanks ....
How his getting 26mpg? I have the EcoBoost and I only get 18...most of which are freeway miles.
Jorge Ocampo I have an automatic so that may be why? I mean I wouldn't expect that big a difference in mpg tho...
Manifest I think these new auto transmissions actually get you better mpg than the manual now a days.... you should get it checked out bro... I had leased a 5.0 and the mpg was horrible took it in it ended up it had an internal gas leak...
That definitely doesn't sound right. My gt is averaging 19 and that's with quite a bit of in town driving. Definitely get it checked. Good luck to you
You must not have an economist than lmfao. Because a 2011-2013 v6 can get up to 550 miles on a full tank.
***** If you drive it like a prius you'll get better averages. If you run it hard its going to eat that gas up bad.
Great review. Thanks for reviewing the V6, like you said, it's hard to find a good review about this model. Definitely worth trying it before deciding which mustang to buy.
I've been waiting for this review forever!!! Thanks Matt and Guillermo! Such great bang for your buck. I want one!
Subaruwrxfan would you recommend the v6 as a first car for a teenager ?
Michael Fletcher Yeah, as long as the larger size doesn't bother you I think it would be great.
Awesome review! I can tell this is a great entry level performance car.
frabadob Seriously??
Tbh i think people would think less of you for owning a v6?. The turbo hasbcharacter, a v6 you can find in any car.
+Seth Imola yeah I know, but uninformed people won't know it's a turbo
+TangoFox418 thats true,.most people just think "mustang" fast
Seth Imola WHen the car looks this good nobody gives a shit tbh from my experience with it for almost a year now, except on the internet of course
Got my 2015 v6 love it
Im looking to trade in my slow ass nissan sentra for a 2015 v6 mustang. How much did you pay for your mustang?
You need to take many things into consideration, do you have good credit? For example I am 19 my parent co signed. Take someone who is good at negotiating otherwise they'll try to hustle you. My v6 had a sticker price of 26 k but ended up at 2.9% interest rate. Paid Around 30 k. You could always wait a year I'm sure they'll be 20 k in a year. Regardless I love my v6! And my GT.
Paying 400 a month and 150 insurance.
The v6 is the base model they don't offer any packages for it. There main focus this year it seems was the Eco boost and GT. but that is a high interest rate for a while dude, I think you might end up paying a bit more than 23 k. I got mine 30 k after all fees and extended warranty.
If it's 338 x 84 months bro you paid 28 k. I took my mom she negotiated lol
Thanks!
i ended up buying this car. roush exhaust, intake bkk ceramic headers and a few other mods and this car costing me under 26k gives me extremely good performance and enjoyment
great to see you review the v6!
Just got my V6 Mustang less than 2 weeks ago in part because of this video. I have watched it at least 10 times. Love the car.
How's it sound and is it fast?
1. I hope she's okay
2. It's partially your fault for letting you sister borrow it knowing she just got her license.
First she's okay
Second not really borrow more like took the keys when I driving someone to the airport
GT 2 years later.... still no money I guess?
That sucks!!!!😒
I think that V6 sounds much sweeter than the ecoboost. You can hear the induction when the motor starts breathing properly about half way through the rev range.
I drove the EB. didn't like it. Maybe because I'm a V8 guy. I floored the pedal and I fell like the car was doing so much afford to go fast. Everything happens when you hit 3rd gear. Don't get me wrong. Great car. But coming from a 2012 modified GT makes things slower.
Dang that exhaust clip was ear candy, that V6 sounds amazing!
How has your mustang done during the winter, snow , ice??
My V-6 is fine in ice and snow. Traction control and anti-look brakes see to that. Just don't drive it crazy.
Hey, Matt! You confirmed what I thought...it's the best buy of the new Mustang lineup! Glad you've given it the attention it deserves! :) Jack
nice review. you actually drove it hard. picking one up as a daily driver,. you can always throw a turbo on it later. that color has grown on me. enjoyed your honest review.
I wish this car was for sale in Holland. We only have the ecoboost and the v8, which is 100k...
bought one today....it does feel soft on takeoff but then comes on strong.....very noticabley larger than the 2011 I used to have.....so far I love it...
+Jason Newcomb agreed, my 15 v6 with the after market exhaust sounds better than the stock gts ford slapped a silencer on
But once you have a MPT tune it really wakes up the 3.7.
What's faster this or the eco boost?
EcoBoost
That wasn't part of the question ^
But it was the correct answer lol
jtkent28 lmao!!! I agree
The v6s are really going to be 19k? Where did you see this info?
I just bought a new leftover V-6. With 100 miles on odometer, I'm getting 22 mpg around town!
Turbo that 3.7L v6 and itll smoke so many cars out there.
+JBWHITEGT it already does stock
Tellin me that v6 smokes alot of cars come on...im not new to mustang n i know that v6 is no slouch but it doesnt smoke alot. It would though boosted.
+JBWHITEGT the last '13 and newer stock are faster than a lot of cars
Thanks for another review Matt! I love all your reviews regardless of the car
V6 don't get no love
what really makes me laugh about the 2015 v6 is that ford detuned the v6 when they added the ecoboost so they could say the ecoboost makes more power and sell it for a higher sticker price. The 2011-2014 v6 are quite a bit quicker than both 2015 ecoboost and v6, 5 more HP and lighter.
I don't know what to do with my hands...
Unless your name is Hertz why would you buy the V6?
money
Because of gas mileage and its faster than cars double the price maybe?
MCKOOKIE It's only $1500 more for the ecoboost not to mention ecoboost is more powerful, has better mpg and less weight.
Ford just punishes you for choosing a v6 .
Thanks for reviewing!! I just ordered my 2015 V6 with the wheels/fogs/seat package, manual trans and the optional 3.55 rear axle gears. As fun as the turbo power delivery can be, I prefer the NA build-up till redline and the sound is so much nicer.
Maryland pride lol
Hell yea!!!!!
Bernie Hi
Do all 2015 mustangs have the normal cruise control as standard? Cuz I think there are buttons on the steering wheel for that?
ok, another Damn mustang review. please lay off the mustangs or a while. i wove yew senpai but the mustangs must stoppppp
I did it because nobody has really reviewed a V6 and I had a lot of people requesting it.
subaruwrxfan NO! *slaps hand* NO MOAR SENPAI!!! no MORE!

Nice review. Whats the 0-60 and 1/4 time?
The 0-60 time is 5.5 seconds.
Those rims are ugly af
Alec Fortin Exactly why my first modification to mine was new wheels and tires! I've seen worse stock alloys though.
Driv3n to Dr1ve ya i was gonna get one but the insurance was too expensive so im going to check out a scion frs tmrw i put a deposit on
Alec Fortin Nice!
I walked him down but car is governed at 120
+Don Capo lucky. i wana race an eco in my v6
+MCKOOKIE they have torque advantage but thats all. we have too end advantages
Could you elaborate why the eco boost isn't reliable? Poor vehicle maintenance? Using not premium gasoline?
The v6 sounds so much better than the Eco boost. Just wish they had available performance packages like thebeco boost and the gt have.
I love maryland my favorite cookies !
ive read some people say the 15 v6 has more torque down low than the 11-14's did? i've only owned 2 11-14 v6s and the low end torque was definitely lacking, you have to wind it out for sure, mods and a tune help this but i was wondering if you've driven both and have you noticed more low end torque on the 15 or about the same? your review mentioned a lack of the low end torque....
It does. The new intake manifold (and probably exhaust resonator) shifts the powerband down and it makes about the same torque at 2500 rpm as it used to at 3500 rpm. See link: www.mustang6g.com/forums/showpost.php?p=446754&postcount=1
I've driven the prior gen and it felt pretty sluggish on the low end, especially with the 2.73 axle ratio that comes standard.
+Sonicaceman yeah the new intake has bit more kick
Really want to know what gear ratio you had on this car and if you would prefer the 3.15 or the 3.55. Is acceleration improved with the 3.55?
FINALLY A GREAT REVIEW TO HELP PEOPLE OUT! Thanks bro!!
Is the base ecoboost worth the extra cash or should I go for the V6? Great review!
What would you say is better in performance and just an overall better model the v6 or ecoboost
This is an excellent review and a must see for anyone looking at the different levels of Mustangs.
V6 or Ecoboost is perplexing, but I'll settle on Challenger.
Just got my 2015 v6 with the appearance package, night and day difference in how the car looks
I own a 2014 v6 premium with axle back exhaust race tune all the good stuff and I love it
As a 2013 V6 owner, I think Ford did a bad move by basically neglecting the V6 this year entirely.
Thanks for the review subi fan. I like your style while giving info and sharing opinions.
