    Such a cool channel and content. I was so close to visiting Japan one point myself. I had experience with modeling and in late 2015 I was in contact with Capcom about the facial likeness role of Leon for the Resident Evil 2 Remake. I failed to mention I also have a voice acting background, in the end I lost the part and I can't forgive myself for wasting such an opportunity to visit Asia.

    I appreciate your dedication to walk more than 20 minutes to show us footage of the front of the Ghibli museum, we forgive you for not going, but I appreciate the effort for trying! 💯

    Thank you for this video! I wish more Japan vloggers would spend time showing off the non-touristy areas of the country. I would love to see more of this kind of low-key "normal life" kinds of places and content! Thanks Lyssa!

    Kichijoji is like the textbook example of a hidden gem neighbourhood as it's mega popular amongst local Tokyoites as the most comfortable area to live in or work in whereas tourists sleep on it so hard, like nothing more than a brief stop before visiting the Ghibli museum and ignoring the rest altogether, which is a huge shame IMAO. So your video is godsend. I have only come to work in Kichijoji for a year or so but it has grown on me so fast. Moderately developed but still got the laid-back countryside vibe thanks to Inokashira park and it's got no ugly pedestrian deck around the station unlike basically every single other Tokyo terminal station😂🎉

    Kichijoji looks great! That park was top tier. In the thumbnail i saw you holding up your hand & it kinda looked like you were showing off your untaken ring finger. I thought "no.. NO, she's just making a five gesture, stupid!"... but then you took us to a ring shop! Is this all subliminal messaging? It worked! 💍💝

    Omg Kichijoji streets as well as the park look so pretty!! Definitely underrated!! Reminded me of another area i had 'noted' before... don't remember the name but i'll have it somewhere.
    Maybe silly question, but, is Kichijoji a residential area too? I would totally rent there! 😅

    • @bleh4974

      Actually, Kichijoji is not underrated. It has been voted best place to live in Tokyo for many years. Yes, it is a residential area, but rent is quite high here. I've been living in Kichijoji for more than 40 years.

    I think there were some "J-Vloggers" based in Kichijoji - for good reasons, it seems. I'm still wondering how to get one of those porcelain pots (like at 3:50) back home with me - but I fear it might be necessary to grab a kintsugi set off Tokyu Hands to go with it. B-side label is fun - it's a chain and they are in lots of other locations as well, for example in the Yokohama Akarenga. They had a nice promotion going on where you could grab a free sticker with a purchase as a foreign tourist, which currently resides on my fridge.

    I guess I belong to the 10% that don't go there for the museum. 😂 I just love the vibes of the neighborhood. It's got kind of a small town feeling unless you're at the station.

    Are the colours really that bright or do you increase the saturation for your wide field shots as a device? Cuz, like, your shots of you seem to have less colour in general and, is that a deliberate narrative tool?

  • @grey5626
    @grey5626 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thank you for the fun overview with some silly sardonic humor. I think you have a typo around the 45 second mark? "Fun fact: Kichijoji is only a 15 min. train ride from Shinkuku!" I am guessing you meant to write "Shinjuku"新宿? I am a fan of Ghibli, but their museum did not exist the last time I was blessed to be able to visit Japan. Hopefully I can afford to return some day and check it out. For now, photos from the Internet are more than sufficient.

    Harmonica Alley has been there since WWII. When I lived there for 20 years, It was grungy. The best food is at Katsu's, a yakitoria to the right to the right of Tokyu Depaato. I don't know why you think you stand out. There have been gaijin there since forever...

    • @bleh4974
      @bleh4974 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I go to Katsu's quite often (about a 10 minute walk from home). It's one of the best yakitori restaurants in Japan. The owner is a friend. His wife used to work with him as a hostess, but, sadly, she passed away recently.

Also, as a compliment, your eyes are a pretty colour... not being a creep, just trying to give you a compliment where one's due, take it easy yo x

  • @irasparer6111
    @irasparer6111 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Not underrated. Kichijoji was the place 30+ years ago. Was never necessary to go to major spots such as Shibuya or Shinjuku as the place has everything: Live houses, different ethnic restaurants, movie theater & Inokashira Park. Lived there from 1989 - 1993 and feel blessed that some people showed me the place on my first visit to Japan in 1988.

    • @bleh4974

    I'm complete opposite of you, didn't give a crap about that area went straight to the museum.

    • @bleh4974
      @bleh4974 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I went once to the museum to take my daughter. She enjoyed it a bit, but it does seem more for kids. I found it boring. Would never recommend it to anyone over the age of 10. The rest of Kichijoji is amazing. Voted best place to live in Tokyo for many years. I've lived here for more than 40 years. Won't live anywhere else. We have everything, and it's easy to walk all over.
