    The shield Jon used to stop all of Ramsay's arrows was a Mormont shield, meaning that at least 1 of those 62 men made it all the way into Winterfell. When Lyanna said that they fight with the strength of 10 mainlanders, she wasn't lying. Lol.

    Kit Harrington did an interesting deep dive on how the trampling scene was a metaphor for the real rebirth of Jon. Jon by the time of the battle is someone who's completely beaten down by circumstance. His increasingly agitated interactions with the people closest to him is reflective of his inner despondence and self-doubt. This is a man betrayed by his own Brothers. A man who's lost all faith. That now iconic single shot of Jon zig zagging through the battlefield dodging arrows and horses is the height of his resignation to fate. That's the point where he's on auto pilot, with a singular purpose to kill. Probably the only way to remain alive in a pitched battle like this, when you've already accepted you're as good as dead. But as the crush starts and he gets buried under a mass of humanity, that's when he's finally forced to slow down. There's a fleeting shot of his face where it seems like he's finally at peace with the end. But in this process of letting go, he also regains the humanity he had lost after being betrayed. From under that stampede he finds a new desire to live stronger than before, and as he comes up gasping for air, he emerges a man reborn. THIS, is the Resurrection of Jon Snow. Or as director Miguel Sapochnick called it, "the vaginal birthing shot" lol. Jon being raised above the stampede mirrors another similar turning point moment. To S3 finale "Mhysa" where Dany is held aloft the human tide, except the circumstance is turned over its head figuratively and literally. Btw after hearing the slow sad version for so long, that "triumphant reprise" of the Stark theme was a great use of emotive BGM.

    When I think of what it set out to achieve, purifying vengeance, Bastard Bowl fully lives up to its reputation. I'd say it still gets me hype just like it did when I first saw it, do they ever drop the motherload! After holding off for so long it's that pitch battle that we came close to many times but always got denied in the past. Which puts a bow to the frequently overlooked story spanning two whole seasons of the slow death of Jon's soul, a death more meaningful than the death of his flesh at the wall. A death that parallels the Northern death under Bolton yoke, with the Batttle of Winterfell being both their symbolic revival and restoration. This is probably my fav GoT episode. It can't be said enough that vengeance would not be as sweet as it was without that unique and prolonged buildup. It's the virtues of patience, good things come to those who wait.

      @@justinpeck6015 In the first season, Robb sent 2,000 of his soldiers to their deaths to capture Jaime. Sometimes you have to sacrifice someone. Otherwise, the battle would have turned into a long siege of the castle, which Stannis had already failed (and Sansa had witnessed this failure twice). Besides, Sansa hoped to eliminate all her problems with one maneuver. She purposely kept her only trump card in the form of a Little Finger until the very end. She purposely held all meetings with him behind John's back and did not talk about the potential help of the Vale's army. When John and Ramsey's troops came together in battle, Sansa tried to get rid of everyone: from Rickon who devalues Sansa's very existence. From John and the wildlings to whom he has already promised lands in the North. From the traitors the Ambers and the Karstarks. From the advisers of Stannis, who also did not recognize the independence of the North. And Sansa, at the right moment, brings the famous army of knights and finishes off hubby Ramsey, hoping that the other threats have already been eliminated. You can also see the obvious parallels between Sansa and Ramsey in their last dialogue. The lack of rights for both with a theoretically high position, the need to obey the "elders", the long-awaited receipt of the promised legacy and ... the threat of losing it all. Ramsey killed his father, stepmother and baby brother threatening his inheritance rights, and Sansa... Sansa tried to get rid of her brothers. Ramsey tells Sansa that he is now a part of her forever, and Sansa coolly watches as the dogs devour the one who knows her best, devouring her little secret at the same time

    I said at the last finale that a constant theme of GoT is that every season people crave for a comeuppance, every season the carrot gets dangled and at the last moment it all gets snatched away brutally. A running gag of the show was people saying "if so and so dies (or don't die) I'm done!". But there's an allure to getting hit over the head with morbidity over and over again that made everyone keep coming back for more. Probably as you start sensing from the sheer build time alone that when you do get that elusive comeuppance, it'll be glorious. Well there it is at last. The payoff. Imo it's every bit as cathartic as it would be at the end of an excruciatingly long road full of heartbreaks. When we don't get that instant fanservice it's easy to lose sight of the fact that GoT had an ungodly amount of people hooked for the very reason that it didn't give you an inch, it made you go through the grinder first. But knowing when to pull the trigger is an art too. This was that moment. Lightning in a bottle. Goes without saying Bastards really captured the popular imagination. It used to be one of the most 'reacted to' tv episodes. You can see the gamot of emotions it brought out from fans who had hopelessly waited years for the Stark banner to fly over Winterfell again.Many say this is their fav battle sequence, for that Roman encirclement. I agree. It captures the random cruel chaoticness of war really well. This has gone down as an episode for the ages. I like the next one better.

    It makes way more sense that the Boltons fall at the hands of the family they betrayed than Stannis. If the Boltons lost a season or two ago, it woulda been any. other. show. This is special because the river of shit you had to wade to get there. All the rage quit moments. Just think back how long it has been, where these characters were when we started. What other show would have the balls? Mellisandre saying "don't you wanna chase the rats out of Winterfell" or the "welcome home lady Stark, the North remembers". Nothing was given, they made you earn it. The pleasure of seeing Ramsay get fed to the dogs doesn't exist without that winter wedding, without that painful marriage arc. The last two episodes didn't exist in a random vacuum. All the prior season bleakness goes into creating the mood for the eventual turnover. *The longer the slowburn was the more memorable these moments became*. Argue with the combined 24 Emmys the two seasons won total.
    The fan service with the last minute save (just like Stannis saving Jon in the book btw) might've been cliche for some of the fedora wearing quantum brains, but that didn't stop the episode from being ranked in IMDB's Top 10 TV Episodes List. BoTB was a massive hit and has since been ingrained in 2010s pop culture. That can't be erased retroactively.

    • @colemantrebor4944
      @colemantrebor4944 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agree, but it is still very likely that Stannis will defeat Boltons in the books. Of course the situation is different there, because Ramsay and Sansa doesn't have any connection to each other in the books.

    Small thing, but the other two dragons didn’t “break out” of the catacombs. The door was open, which I’m assuming Dany/Tyrion told some solider to do. The dragons just burned down the open entrance which was probably too small for them to fit through

    The fundamental difference between Danny & Jon, is Danny chooses to fight and kill to further her own ambition; whereas Jon is more forced into fighting in order to protect his friends and family. It’s a song of ice and fire, although Jon’s path is a better one. I also think you missed the image of Jon has to fight to rise from all the mud, blood and shit out of the crowd. It was a very similar scene to the one where Danny is lifted above the throng of slaves. Both scenes symbolised a kind of resurrection, where both Danny and Jon come into power.

    I believe that George RR Martin had a hand in a lot of the important plot pieces post Season 4 still, (like giving some unreleased book sequel information to the producers D&D) which is why you probably enjoy this show still.
    But everything that leads up and how those plot pieces come into fruition, he had no part in. Which is why there is a lot of anger about the show post S4.
    You’ll probably understand it in the whole spectrum of things once you finish the show.

    Running in serpentine pattern wouldn't have done anything as there were hundreds of archers with their bows pointed at Rickon. The close range combat, the human pile, the stomping, even the horse charge was real. The horses charged full speed and stopped about five feet from him. No room for error. The filming location was a field in Belfast, in mud, dirt and rain over weeks with an unprecedented number of extras. The CGI is simply impeccable. The two nitpicks about the battle : one is about Jon being too lucky. If that epic one-take makes him look too "lucky", that's deliberately done to show no amount of skill would save you in a battle without luck. The camera follows him, but he's not the only one going through the exact same hell. All hundreds or thousands of survivors in every medieval battle had the same "luck". Jon didn't chase Ramsay cause he was fooled our lured out, he chased Ramsay cause he wanted to die. The other one is about the Vale being ex machina. Well sometimes predictability is good. The long list of subversions it took to get here counterbalances the ex machina. The logistics isn't much different from Stannis arriving at the Wall or Tywin's at KL. Sansa didn't tell Jon cause honorable Jon "Stark" would've outright rejected Baelish's offer. No wonder the episode was as hugely popular as it was, they aimed to satisfy the masses and not the forums, who'll always be unsatisfied with everything. The finale has a lifetime worth of shockers, so this was the perfect opportunity to give that rare happy ending.
    If they did something subversive, the same people would’ve cried about it too just like they cried about Mother's Mercy.
