Watch it again: Cersei is just as shocked as Sansa and is trying to get Joffrey to change his mind. Killing Ned was NOT the plan: he was more useful as a hostage, given that his son is storming south with a respectable army. This was Joffrey being an immature, sadistic exhibitionist on the spur of the moment. Robb and Catlyn's incentive to keep Jamie alive is Sansa and Arya As far as they know, the Lannisters have both of them: they don't know that Arya is on the run.

They had their own category of big (but not huge) swords with no pointy end (since it was made only for choping) and extremely heavy blade (so it was easier to chop). Ice (Ned's sword) is the biggest category. It is sword that big it couldn't be used in any type of combat and it was made mainly for ceremonies and rituals. You can see that because of the shape. It's basicaly extremely oversized longsword.

Zigor Bilbao That’s why I always leave a comment to new reactors & tell them that they have to pay attention to pretty much every line of dialogue & really think about what’s going on, especially when they’re speaking about characters that may not be part of the present story & may not be physically seen in any episode. It’s a good idea to know why Robert became king in the first place & what made Robert & Ned friends in the first place. Most reactors aren’t that interested in the history of Westeros, but it definitely helps with understanding & enjoyment.
I do get it though. I read these books when they first came out & I would have to re-read paragraphs & sometimes entire pages in order to figure out what was going on & I STILL missed some of it.

Yes. Even a specific S2 battle would have originally unfolded off-screen if Benioff and Weiss didn't press on HBO to increase the budget for that specific episode. For first three seasons, there was no guarantee the show would last till the end and the budget was relatively small. It was only after S3 I think when GoT reached the level of popularity that it was pretty much guaranteed the show would air through all its intended run (Benioff and Weiss originally planned the show to air for 70 episodes/seven seasons according to their interview from 2013). From S4 onwards the budget only increased with every season and the show was able to get to really epic proportions when it comes to battles and visual effects, possibly bigger than anyone expected at first.

6:15 actually, that is the usual way of marriages in this world, especially the nobles! You don‘t marry for love, but for prestige, wealth or to secure political alliances or bannerman to your house!
Ned & Catelyn didn‘t marry for love, nor did Cat‘s sister & Jon Arryn, nor Robert & Cersei, nor Daenerys... her oldest brother Rhaegar... the Mad King...
there are absolute exceptions like Tywin... he did actually marry for love as strange as it seems!
That’s why nobles often have lovers & bastards... and that is pretty much accepted

They beheaded Ned with his own sword. The name of his sword is ICE. Ice is made with Valyrian Steel which is very rare in this time. The lore is that it was made with Dragon fire. Ice is big, very heavy sword that has been in the Stark family for thousands of years. Ned still fought well with the heavy sword. That shows how good of a fighter he was. It still is hard to watch Ned die and I have seen it a lot of times. Great reaction!

13:40 You now get a good info about how much time has passed since episode 1. from the very beginning to episode 2, around 2 months already passed. Ned getting to King's landing, Cat travelling from Winterfell to King's landing weeks after he left. Going to the vale Ned arrested, and then she goes to Rob. Easily 5 more months have passed. We see scene after scene, but these people communicate with birds, with riders, they have no cars, no planes. It takes weeks to go where it would take half a day for us. Also Battles will come, at first they just did not have the budget to show it.

    "Sansa made her choice"
lololol no, Sansa is a 13 year old girl who is being pulled and manipulated from every direction, she didn't even know what Ned knew from evidence, that Joffrey is baseborn and no true Baratheon at all, and yet she still advocated for mercy and for Joffrey to release her father, she could do nothing else but plea and hope Joffrey kept his word, and after this her staying in Kings Landing is certainly not her choice. Robb and Catelyn are well that Sansa is being kept there against her will, and even if Arya escapes as far as they know she's still in Kings Landing.

They didn't show battles in the early seasons because they didn't have the budget. This show wasn't that popular until 3 or 4 seasons in. Also, Ned's death is the first Domino that sets all other Dominos in motion. And he's not usually the one where people said they're going to quit watching. That comes a few seasons from now.
