  • This video explains the installation of the Z-Axis Focus Sensor from Cloudray Laser. amzn.to/2Jo9m5B .This sensor for the Co2 Laser is used with controllers capable the Auto Focus feature. It can only be installed on a machine that has the work table controlled by the z-axis controls on the laser control panel. In this video I demonstrate using the RuiDa RDC-6445 Controller (amzn.to/2XD7tuI) however It is NOT limited to RuiDa controllers.

    IMPORTANT NOTE: When installing ensure you check the full working area of the laser head to make sure that the z-axis focus sensor will not come into contact with any part of the outside perimeter of the machine or it could do damage to the focus sensor and/or the laser head.
    Always make sure that the POWER IS DISCONNECTED prior to making any wiring installations.

    Thanks for the great video. Awesome channel. I do have a ? Does this laser have the ability to pass through bigger material from front to back. If so how does that work. I see the 60w have a door on the front and back. But does this 80w red and black have that ability. Thanks

    • @MWLaser
      @MWLaser  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      G'day Nick, Thanks for the comments and feedback I appreciate the feedback.
      Yes the 150W Blue machine in this video does have the ability to manually feed material from front to back, by opening the front and rear panels. You can pass material up to about 35mm thick through and still have clearance for focusing the laser.
      The 80W Red laser machine also has this ability to feed through material, BUT with the current laser head/lens tube it will not lower enough to focus as there are rails front and back that obstruct the material from passing through at the correct focus height. To be able to use the pass though on the 80W Red machine I would need to change the laser head / to one with a longer lens tube so that it will lower enough to be at the right focus height.
      Both machines have this Manual feed though option that will allow you to place larger material into the laser, however if you wanted a continuous cut larger than the cut area of the machine you would need an automatic feed table / u-axis.
      I hope this has answered your question. Cheers Matt

    i am having a problem setting this up, i cant get it to do the gap above the substrate using a scrap piece of 3mm even though i set it in th e settings it doesnt drop back down it stays at the top of the limit on the probe where the switch kicks in

    Thanks a lot Matts! Just finishing my DIY 50W co2 build with Cloudray parts and the Ruida RDC6445G controller. I dont have the auto focus right now and i think i will build it my self, but it looks like it is very good to have. It seems that you are pretty experienced with co2 laser and the Ruida controllers, so could you please tell me if i am right that PNP Proximity sensors are not working with the Ruida RDC6445G controller (and most other Co2 laser controllers) and only the NPN sensors working? I found that information today on the thunderlaser website, after 8h of struggling to get PNP sensors to work, but the homing sequence did not work. I had the PNP sensors lying around from my CNC router build, so i did not even think about that only NPN sensors working. Thanks in advance and again thanks for the nice videos!

    NIce video with more details then the others, my laser mashine moves z axis (work table) down, but won't go up? I did cut inductive sensor from head because it did not work. I want now to fully disable autofocus on mashine and use focusing manually. What do I need to do else so laser can ignore any affection by proximity sensor?

    I just installed one of these on a 6445, and I have no idea how this wiring worked for you. The diagram that you showed even says 10-30V for the probe and that port on the controller is 5V. Hooking it up to a 24V port made it work perfectly for me.
    If you pointed this out then I missed it, but if "enable focus" is turned to "yes" in the focus panel then the focus... doesn't work. It focusses then moves the table down until it runs out of travel. If "enable focus" is set to "no" (like it is when you show this menu) then the focus works perfectly. Why? Who knows :D.

      I have came across 2 models for the focus sensor the one in this video was a 5V unit and its wiring is different to the 24V version I install in this other video (th-cam.com/video/X8iqgfy5T-8/w-d-xo.html) even thoughthey look like identical units. This has caused some confusion with a few viewers so far. :(
      Yes I have found on all machines I have installed this focus sensor on that when I select enable focus = yes, then it disables the focus. Why? sorry can't answer that. I have not found an answer yet, my best guess is it may enable a different focusing system than the one installed in this video.
      Cheers Matt

    I noticed on the video at 8:09 when working with controller (Menu - User - Focusing) that there was an item listed as "Enable Focus" and it was set to "No." Why is that?

    My focal length when doing a ramp test is 18mm. I then put a 3mm piece under my autofocus dropped it like you did and set 3mm in my rudia controller. When I got autofocus it focus to about 20mm. What am I doing wrong?

      I used a 24mm and then made an acrylic ring to go inside to fit my 16mm lens tube. Otherwise you can machine a new holding ring. Cheers Matt

    Did this work? My Puzu Pin only gives 5 Volts and that is not enough for the sensor.. connectes the brown wire to 24volt, that did the job.

    • @MWLaser
      @MWLaser  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      This one worked on 5v wired up as shown with rdc6445 controller.

    • @patrickdjebar9225
      @patrickdjebar9225 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Matt's Workshop -MW Laser you are lucking, the sensor village range is from 6 to above 24v, thus you are on the limit of the voltage
      the best way would be to connect the brown in the 24v on the connector just above

    I have just purchased a 60W Red and Black laser, I am a complete newbie. I was tinkering with the machine yesterday and pushed the autofocus button on the ruida controller.
    I had no material on the bed and when it tried to auto focus it just kept going and kinda squashed the auto focus pen. I am at a loss as to how it is supposed to work.
    The book they send with the laser is no help. is there any videos for idiots like me lol to get to know things like this ?
    I haven't a clue as to what height the pen is supposed to be to auto focus.
    I was worried I had damaged the machine, so now Im scared to press the autofocus lol
    Great Video as always mate !
