    I sailed on the island Princess for 34 days from Ft Lauderdale May 26. Our last 16 days was Norway. I visited the same ports you did. Sailing the fjords was absolutely breathtaking and the most fabulous experience I have had in 26 cruises with Princess.

      I agree, Norway was stunning. One of the best cruises I’ve done. I will definitely book another cruise back to Norway. I’ve never done a long cruise like for 34 days before! I don’t have enough holiday time!

    Hi David. Thanks for this informative video about taking the local Olden bus to Birksdal Glacier. We followed your advice and indeed the local bus arrived just where the cruise ship was docked across the street.
    FYI - when the bus came there were more people than the bus could take! We just managed to get on this bus. But for the overflow the town sent a second bus within 5 minutes so there was no problem getting there, and back. The bus indeed waited there at the lodge till 1:00 pm and drove us back . The 40 minute drive was breathtaking. The driver even dropped passengers off at Olden town.
    Thank you so much for the brilliant advice and it made our trip very enjoyable. We will be following you for other cruises

      Thanks so much for leaving this comment. It really makes me happy knowing you got to experience that excursion. It’s still the most scenic bus ride over ever taken and worth every penny.
      Very surprised to hear how busy it was. I’ve taken it twice, both times in June and is was very quite. Great that they provided another bus for you!

      @@CruiseShowUK Strenuous is spot on for the Birksdal glacier hike. We saw people really struggling on some of the steep parts, especially the steep stairs. As a couple of active 60 year old retirees, we were worried but made it in 45 minutes. It was the best part of the cruise, tied with cruising into Geiranger fjord (our first fjord ever). Spectacular scenery. Make sure to bring a coat that can take a little (a lot!) spray from a waterfall!

    Did the same itinerary last summer--definitely need to do the research--the independant tour to the North Cape cost 1/3rd the price of the cruise ship, had more stops, and was so much more interesting! For those less physically fit than you are--you can also google Taxi tours and the name of the city--many taxi companies offer sightseeing tours by Taxi that are reasonably priced (compared to the cruise ship tours).

    It hurts me as a swede to admit this since swedes and danes has tried to steal Norways thunder for such a long time: But vikings came orginally from Norway. This video proves it beyond any doubt. The fjords FORCED the vikings to make boats to be able to travel inside Norway crossing the hundreds of fjords in Norway. Sweden and Denmark are both without fjords - so there was no need to invent boats there. Your video just made me realize this fact.

    • @CruiseShowUK
      @CruiseShowUK  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello and thanks for watching! Those fjords are incredible and I don’t know why I’ve only just discovered them! On several occasions looking at the houses along the fjords, I wondered how people ever moved about. Boat is the only way, so your comment makes a lot of sense.

    We will be cruising through the fjords on Ion a in April 2023 and looking for tours other than the ones P&O are offering. The Geri ranger catamaran trip looks interesting. Do the independent operators guarantee your return to the ship on time?

    Hi, we will be on the Sky Princess two week Land of the Midnight Sun and would like to do the Geiranger catamaran boat tour from Alesund. The catamaran returns at 6.00 and the cruise ship departs at 6.00. We're afraid we might miss the ship. Did you have the same problem. Thank you. First time cruisers!

    • @CruiseShowUK
      @CruiseShowUK  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Josette Ciantar - if you are in Alesund on 31st August then the tour operator has adjusted the times to fit in with cruise ship. The new return time on that day is 17:30. If you contact them and let them know you’re on Sky Princess ship - they’ll let you know if it’s possible.

    I’ve never done any sort of cruise, but I want to explore the Norwegian fjords and Lofoten islands for my honeymoon in June! We typically travel without many pre-arranged tours and prefer to hike and be in nature. Do you recommend a cruise for this sort of trip?

    • @CruiseShowUK
      @CruiseShowUK  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello and thanks for the question. In my opinion, yes. A cruise is a great way to see lots of places on one trip. On our Norway cruise, there were lots of hikers, that would set off each morning, hiking boots and backpacks galore! …. just be very mindful of the time you need to be back to the ship.
      Our trip was full of activity and outdoor adventures. We walked, hired bikes, scooters, paddle boards. Some of it was pre-planned, but lots were spur of the moment things.
      You really need to research the different cruise lines and ships, as they are all very different.
      You say you are a fan of nature…. Norway is absolutely stunning, the nature is on another level!!!! I can’t wait to go back next year.
      Congratulations on the wedding and thanks for watching. David

    • @CruiseShowUK
      @CruiseShowUK  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @admranger Hiya and thanks for the question. Actually, yes you could still do the trip… the journey to Geiranger was incredible…. You really get up close and personal to all the waterfalls and pass through lots of interesting places. So I say go for it!! I would do that trip again 100%.

      @@CruiseShowUK We did the "slow boat" tour and wished we'd have done the "rib boat" tour our friends did. The rib boats get right up to the waterfalls -- "so close you can taste it" is how their guide described it. They loved the rib boats and it wasn't jerky since the water is so calm in the fjord.
