OMG I can’t wait to do my first epoxy countertop project with stone cold epoxy materials! My only wonder is what do you do with the drip edge over the edges on the bottom line do you just send them off or grind them off flush to the bottom edge? Or do you just leave the drips natural around the bottom edge and not clean it up to make smooth?
If I did an edge with more detail, such as a double ogee, would I tape the entire edge until 2 hours after pouring and then release all the tape at once?@@StoneCoatCountertops

I am planning on doing my kitchen this summer, and started watching your videos last year. I have 3 projects to tackle: Approx 40 sf of epoxy. 2 projects same color scheme. 1 project, adding one more paint color. #1) A painted 5' 3" L x 2' W waist-high buffet, The top only will be done to match the teal-ish blue and white walls. I like this Granite- type of design in this video, only with blue, white, grey, brick colors.. (I have a brick fireplace, as well as a river rock fireplace) tie it in with both. It's a 1900s N.E. farmhouse that I am attempting to modernize inside a bit... #2) The second project will be more challenging. Apprix. 24 sf Kitchen Island countertop with 4"×4" ceramic grouted TILE on top. Sink and stove installed, leave in place? Remove? NOT level! It slopes 3/4" over 7 feet. Do you have a flow- time extender? My concern is that the epoxy will flow to one side before hardening. Q: CAN I POUR OVER THE TILE/GROUT? DO I HAVE TO STRIP THE TILE OFF THE COUNTER? THE GROUT SITS SLIGHTLY LOWER THAN THE TILE, WILL THIS MAKE A DIFFERENCE?? 🤔 I'm wondering if the slight depressions where the grout is between tiles will help HOLD the epoxy, preventing flow to the lower area? Can I set wooden "dams" and remove them at the 2 hour mark, allowing the epoxy to semi harden, but still flow into a crevice left by a "dam", thereby controlling flow? The approach for both will be the same I'm assuming? #3) Small wheeled cart. (6 sf) No problem here, no questions.
My wife and I just purchased our first house and it needs some help. My current project is the kitchen where we want to add a waterfall edge to the end of the counter. To create a seamless transition would I pour my resin as one large piece and then cut a mitered joint in the finished piece? Or have two pieces already cut that I lay end to end as I pour? Thanks for your help and these awesome videos!
Great suggestion! We can get working on another shower kit but for now here is the one we have available at our website: www.stonecoatcountertops.com/shower-epoxy-page
Hi. We don't have much hardwares that sell epoxy here in South Africa. Bern calling around. I did find a place online that sells table top epoxy so bought online. They do not sell epoxy primer though. They mainly cater fot casting not table top so much. Which white primer do u recommend that I could find at the hardware that is maybe used for normal paint. Someone said I can use any water base primer for wall or cupboard paint. I'm going to try the Carrara marble project u also have a video on. Please help I'd really appreciate it. Thanks for the awesome tutorials really teach and good advice..
I have yet to see you guys build a piece in your shop that fits against a wall. Do you just make it oversized and then cut the sides that have to butt against another surface off with a skillsaw? Would love to know your technique on that.
Good question! Whenever you have backsplash going in you have some wiggle room and do not need to be so tight to the wall. When we need to we will use our template material. In the beginning of this video Mike templates a vanity pinned between two walls th-cam.com/video/hiz9ugQKgSo/w-d-xo.html
@@dienekes4364 Still doable! I would still cut off the splash and fill with bondo, sand back flat when dry and you are ready to apply bonding primer and then undercoat to the whole countertop. We use all purpose bondo. Mix up small batches if you are new to using it. It's a lot like thick dry wall mud on a 7 minute times. Tape off the wall a 1/4'' above the surface to keep the epoxy off the wall. After the undercoat is dry you are ready for epoxy
You sure can, any latex paint will work. You will want to give the paint time to dry completely before coating with epoxy. Our epoxy Undercoat can be cover with epoxy very quickly within 2 hours. Great question though. How long have you been watching Stone Coat on TH-cam?
I just subscribed, your videos make us want to epoxy everything in our house! 😁 Great instructions on your channel btw, can’t wait to make our first tabletop.
You sure can! I just shot a video on site over laminate with a sink in place. Be sure to subscribe that video is coming soon. Follow the prep steps on this video as well. This table top was laminate before I covered it with epoxy.
With the exotic pour technique we are mixing up 4-6 ounces per square foot and only pouring one coat of epoxy. We come back and apply the Ultimate Top Coat to bring the top back to food safe. Great observation! How long have you been watching Stone Coat on TH-cam?
@@mitchquist thanks for reply. Custom service at it's best. Been watching off and on. I have used stone coat products with rock edge on my own cabin counter tops.
Great video! I'd love to replicate this technique with the desktop I'm working on right now, only I'm worried that the 3-hour resting period before taking off the tape will be influenced a lot by my local temperature... Do you have an estimate of how long one should leave it for in different temps? Otherwise, there's no way you remember the temp of your studio when you did this, right? 😁
Cool idea, as long as the pvc doesn't flex a ton and you rough up any glossy area you should be ok. Before applying to a large project, do a small test to see if what you are thinking will work out. Let me know if you have any questions
This is stunning. Prettiest counter top I've ever seen. Kinda afraid of using epoxy. Do you sell a kit with all you need for doing what you did here? Also, how would you do the back strip on a kitchen counter? It's up and down. Gonna look for more of your videos. Thank you so much for sharing.

I'm wondering if the slight depressions where the grout is between tiles will help HOLD the epoxy, preventing flow to the lower area?
Can I set wooden "dams" and remove them at the 2 hour mark, allowing the epoxy to semi harden, but still flow into a crevice left by a "dam", thereby controlling flow?
The approach for both will be the same I'm assuming?

(6 sf) No problem here, no questions.
THIS IS SO AWESOME NEED THIS NOW
Awesome job! Thanks for showing each step!
You are very welcome! Happy you enjoyed the video, have you worked with epoxy yet for a project?
I love how this one turned out… this may finally have made my decision on the look I want to try on my countertops.
When you going to have shower kit available again on your site? Do you any detailed instruction video for doing shower pan/ shower floor?
Rock on. Looks great
Thank you! This one was really easy and looks way better than SNOW WHITE!
Thanks for your feedback! Have you been able to work with the epoxy yet?
What did you do to the legs? Did you keep them white?
I did keep the legs white, they looked good with the colors I poured
Thanks so much for watching!
If I’ve got a 12” back wall that connects to the countertop how do I get the back wall epoxied too?
Great tutorial!!! You solved an issue I didn't even know I had!
@@mitchquist But what if you are not putting in a backsplash?
@@dienekes4364 Still doable! I would still cut off the splash and fill with bondo, sand back flat when dry and you are ready to apply bonding primer and then undercoat to the whole countertop. We use all purpose bondo. Mix up small batches if you are new to using it. It's a lot like thick dry wall mud on a 7 minute times. Tape off the wall a 1/4'' above the surface to keep the epoxy off the wall. After the undercoat is dry you are ready for epoxy
Can I use any black paint for this type of project
You sure can, any latex paint will work. You will want to give the paint time to dry completely before coating with epoxy. Our epoxy Undercoat can be cover with epoxy very quickly within 2 hours. Great question though. How long have you been watching Stone Coat on TH-cam?
Great energy.
Thanks so much!!!! How did you like the table top?
@@mitchquist it is beautiful Mitch. You and Mike have been my crafting inspiration for years.
Very nice work
I just subscribed, your videos make us want to epoxy everything in our house! 😁 Great instructions on your channel btw, can’t wait to make our first tabletop.
Nice Work,🦺
Super impressive with the result. 👍
We need to do our kitchen counter tops. Can we do the epoxy over our formica with the tops installed? This would save a lot of time if we could.
You sure can! I just shot a video on site over laminate with a sink in place. Be sure to subscribe that video is coming soon. Follow the prep steps on this video as well. This table top was laminate before I covered it with epoxy.
Wow alot of epoxy for the sq. footage.
No more chopping in.
Is this different epoxy then before?
Wow, how beautiful! Every work I have seen of you I liked very much🤩🤩🤩. I ask you, can I use epoxy on top of a pvc panel?🤔
Cool idea, as long as the pvc doesn't flex a ton and you rough up any glossy area you should be ok. Before applying to a large project, do a small test to see if what you are thinking will work out. Let me know if you have any questions
@@mitchquist Thank you very much for answering. I have that project on the list of things I want to do. Any questions I let you know.😁👍🏻
We would be happy to help over the phone as well M-F 7:30am - 4:30pm (541)450-1976
Thanks Mitch, keep up the good work!
Never done it. Will like to try it.
Soooo pretty
Love your videos I'm gonna check out your colors I wanna do my countertops
That table looks amazing!! 👏👏
Do you guys come out to apply epoxy to my countertops and floors? I really don’t have time to do it myself ?? I’m in Towson, Maryland ?
That's one far trip across the country from southern Oregon! If the price is right!
nice work I got it 😊
Wow, that's so beautiful expoxy design with different colors. I would like to try this someday.👍
Would this work on concrete counter tops? I want to do this for our outdoor kitchen. Need advice on this thank you!
