    Enough with the dog already. It's just another thing purchased without having it checked out or doing a good background check on the seller. I work at a ranch, thrown my share of hay bales at a dairy farm, and the ratio of animals to humans on my road varies between 5 to 1 to 10 to 1. An errant animal wandering into a shoot might be "cute" but replacing that stuffed animal that frequented many older vids with a puppy is just a distraction. I choose to be around animals but I would like to choose to accumulate facts and trends that will help me make purchases in the future. You guys generally have top notch content that I watch every day, and if you need to promote the dog, give him his own channel.

    I almost bought the TRX but decided on the 2022 Power Wagon 75th anniversary instead. With front and rear lockers, disconnecting front swaybar, same 2500 axles as the TRX, it was close and it has far more of the tech comforts I like. The final decision maker was it's only 2" wider than a Gladiator while a TRX is far wider than that. I find when I do go offroad in somehwat tough places, width of the trail is a big consideration. Once my truck gets here next week I'll post a thanks to the team for helping me make my choice.

    • @8998bh
      @8998bh ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ever since buying my GenII Raptor & taking it overoad out in the desert & more specifically while on trails...A LOT of them if not most of the trails we've been to are definitely catered more towards jeeps, which as you know are notoriously narrow.
      ... out on most trails with my raptor!? It ends up turning into a "white knuckle" experience! For sure.
      It's the one thing I dread if we're up on a mountain side.
      But that iS the one MAjOR downside of both the Raptor & TRX; the width.
      It's gotten me into some hairy predicaments where I had to literally hug the edge so tightly I had about half of the tire tread on the dirt & the other half OVER the edge! The section of the cliffside trail where that all went down had about a 25 ft emembankment with trees that would PROBABLY catch the truck if I WERE to tumble down...but below the treeline of that is about another 75-125ft fall. Just barefaced rock that ends in a mostly dry river bed. Super sketchy but awesome views of SoCali at the top; plus miles & miles of trail bordering along camp Pendletons outter perimeter.
      Beggars can't be choosers & there's alot of locations to pick from so I guess I've got to just stay away from those Jeep type trails? Stick with the desert & more wide open trails.

    So how much of this behemoth is still going to be functional when the warranty wears out? Not saying I don't like what they've done with this truck, but FCAs don't have the best long-term track record. I suspect owners will be paying a mint in addition to the note for repairs long after the factory warranty is gone and dusted.
    Aside from the fancy electronics and some model-only features, I don't see 35K of upgrades that a competent dude couldn't do for a fraction of the bucks.

      @@haroldbeauchamp3770 I happen to have a highly reliable Tundra. =D The tolerances are really the difference between the old 'drive til they die' Toyotas that people would change the oil once every blue moon after they hit 200k because of all the engine sludge filling up the slop, and the ones that will last forever today because they really are made with such fine QA.

    • @haroldbeauchamp3770

      @@C-M-E agreed. I have a 2018 Sequoia. I have a leaking rear differential and a ticking engine that drives me crazy, but Toyota refuses to fix it. My a/c compressor has gone out twice in 2 years. I do all my maintenance at the dealer and feel that this crap shouldn’t happen. My parents bought me a Toyota truck just like the one on Back to the Future when I graduated from high school. I never changed the oil, the differential fluids, etc. The engine locked up at under 30k miles. I learned a valuable lesson on maintenance that day.

    • @C-M-E
      @C-M-E 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@haroldbeauchamp3770 Sorry to hear about the hard lessons my friend! I've fixed enough of my own cars and other peoples' that it's just easier that I do as much as I can myself until I run into an issue that outweighs the ability of my driveway. The rear diff is just a seal that, honestly for a 2018, ought not be leaking yet unless you happen to live in either the extreme north, a constantly hot environment and store your vehicle in a temp controlled garage, or you happen to wheel the hell out of your rig off-road. There's cheap 'fixer' products that will seal a leak but I recommend just taking the back cover off and either laying down a new RTV silicone bead after scraping off the old one with a razor, or if you're going to the dealer, I'm sure they have a factory gasket laying around. Other than putting up with the smell and some splashing it's a quick job.
      A/c compressors rarely die completely on modern/relatively well-built vehicles. What usually happens is they start leaking, or the refrigerant needs a top-up. If you have one that cycles on and off but doesn't blow cold air, try getting a top-up kit. They're cheap, like $30 or so, and come with a can of refrigerant for your era of vehicle ('old' ones might be R134/R22, etc), and a little hose you hook up to your charge port. It's really easy, any fool with two hands could do it. Screw the hose on, turn on your car and cycle your a/c on. Hold down the valve til it goes into the green zone on the dial and you're golden. I do my truck and my wife's car every few seasons as we live in Texas, so a/c gets used A LOT.
      Your ticking engine is probably lifters that have a fair amount of buildup on the valves. I haven't had that problem on my Tundra (yet-it's still young in mileage by Tundra standards), but adding a lubricant to your engine oil (I know, sounds dumb) will help take the noise out. I've had good luck with Z-max for lifter noise (if you get the kit, it also has a fuel additive), or you can throw some Amsoil products through it too. Ask around at your local parts store, they'll point you to the right aisle. I'd also grab some fuel injection system cleaners while you're in that aisle. If they're on sale, grab a few and dump one in every time you gas up. Get the best one you can afford, though Lucas makes a good injector cleaner that will do the job. The 32oz white bottle with the blue tip let's you do this with one purchase and just squirt in a few ounces after you gas up, repeating until the bottle is gone or the pep in your driving wears off. It's not exactly a miracle in a bottle that fixes heavy carbon build-up like a technician would remove with power tools, but repeating the process over time works well. One other thing you can also do that's slightly more involved is getting a can of Seafoam (same aisle as these other products). They have a few varieties, so depending on how many miles you've racked up, there's one application that does a big removal versus incremental in their line-up. I've had great results from them too, but the big treatment involves a lot of smoke pouring out your exhaust til it burns off. The other is just a fuel additive that doesn't smoke, but takes a few applications.

    I bought a rebel last night with quite a few bells and whistles on it air shocks super large sunroof, quite a few more, it can only tow 7200lbs I found out.
    When I first went to the dealer, they told me it could take 12,000, it was listed for $78,000 but I got an outdoor price for about 63
    I was looking at a TRX actually a few and they ranged from $120,000-$135,000
    So I could’ve bought two of these reels for the cost of one TRX
    I traded my jeep gladiator in which I have the Mojave edition and I will definitely be able to go 55 mph in 4 low.
    The falcon tires, mud edition actually were great in snow, so I’m a little worried living here in Summit county, how these wranglers will do in snow that came on the rebel.
    I drive to Colorado Springs from Dillon all the time and I’m gonna be towing a 2000 pound horse a 2 horse trailer, and once in a while, a regular size horse altogether, which will put me around 6000 pounds before loading people in tack and that kind of stuff so hopefully I didn’t screw up by getting this truck instead of the Toyota tundra or the regular 1500 that can tow more.
    This looks so much like a TRX to me that I took my chance
    Hopefully I don’t miss my jeep too much. The gladiator was pretty cool.

    I must say that payload number is abysmal. It's less than 50 lbs higher than that of a Toyota Camry! For a full size truck that's unreal. You basically can't put anything else in the bed of the truck with 3-4 passengers. Had they made the TRX more practical I think it would have done a lot better. A lot of people buying 3/4 ton + 1 ton diesels could afford this truck as it's practically the same price as a fully loaded diesel HD truck. I personally would trade in my F250 for one of these if it had payload closer to 2k and towing over 10k. but having less payload than a Ford Ranger is a huge disadvantage.

  • @krane15
    @krane15 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Great video as always.
    What doesn't it have: It doesn't have the Power Wagon bumper integrated winch. It also doesn't have a power tilt/telescoping steering wheel. Something you'd find on the Ford, GMC and Chevy.
    BTW, thanks to Andre for not directing the cameraman on this one. The talent does the talking, and the camera person will take care of the rest without drawing attention to himself. Maybe by the next video Tommy will have gotten the memo. Yes cameraman, in case you're wondering.
    What the TRX is = a very special vehicle for a select group of enthusiasts with deep pockets (or top tier credit). What the TRX is not = a truck for the masses that economical, functional, and practical. The TRX is the total opposite of all that. The TRX is all about power, convenience, luxury and fun-to-drive.

    Same brand, completely different use cases. So it ultimately depends on what you want to do when gauging if it is "worth" the cost. That said on the topic of payload being a factor, payload is almost never a number decided be engineers. That is a number that is put there to minimize liability. Considering the intended use case of the TRX is to go off the beaten path at extreme speeds, they likely had to reduce the number so they didn't end up with a lawsuit from some idiot trying to do the Baja 1000 with a camper in the bed. This is the same story for the Power Wagon as well. Seriously, put the max payload in the bed and see how little that thing squats.
