Proud owner of one of these, absolutely still love it 6 years later. It's right around the time where it needs its battery replaced and the only thing I've changed this far is the ssd because 128 gigs just wasn't enough for me (I run macOS, Windows and Arch Linux on this so I need the extra space). It not having a T2 chip is actually an advantage for me because trying out other operating systems is a thing I do often so having the freedom is great. The glowing logo is something my peers see and go "How does it do that??" because it's been so long they forgot it existed. The SD card slot is a godsend because I do stuff with Wiis and Raspberry Pis that sometimes need a full size SDXC slot. I've even used thunderbolt a few times because I had an older firewire camcorder with miniDV tapes I needed to dump. The trackpad size is smaller than the new ones but it's still force touch and the size is reasonable. I almost never use a mouse because I find it worse on this machine than the trackpad itself.

It's amazing. I've got one for school. Unfortunately it is rather slow, but i remedied that by buying a 15 inch 2015 with a 2.8ghz i7, and Radeon graphics to replace my 13 inch 2.7 i5.
I still have the 15.6" version and use it for my everyday work. And judging by all the problems which later on models faced, this probably was the last perfect MacBook according to me (Read: magsafe, ports, great keyboard!)
I'm a heavy Windows user, but I keep this generation Macbook Pro for years and never thought about selling it. It's just such a lovely device. Amazing Hardware.
We have one of these in the household exactly like this and I have no desire to upgrade. It’s just too easy for the family to use with all of those ports. The storage is not soldered to the motherboard either.
Watching it on just such a computer. Love keeping it clean, up-to-date, and otherwise optimized. Meets my needs as an office professional. Unless it fails me in some significant way, I'll keep it till it no longer gets updates.
I'm going on 8 years with this MBP and I just opted to spend $200 to replace the battery vs. upgrade to a new laptop. This thing is a beast and just keeps chugging along. No need to spend an extra $1000 when this should hopefully last another 3-5 years.
This was my first one. I made the huge mistake of not doing my homework and traded it in for a 2017 MacBook Pro. That 2017 model was the worst computer I'ver ever owned. Just recently traded that in for a m1 MacBook Pro. This one is so much better, but I do miss that 2015 model.
dude. thank you sir, I just turned in my rental from college it was a surface and was like I gotta get a macbook and THIS confirmed which one I should get and why I should get it! thanks so much
My sister just upgraded to a early 2020 macbook pro last year and she gave me her early 2015 macbook pro which i love! She was having issues not being able to change her backround but once i cleaned it up givin it a refresh of catalina installed, it ran with no problems! Im definitely keeping this macbook pro for 4 more years.
I feel much the same about my 2013 model. Have you torn it apart to clean it up and reapply thermal paste? I’m only moderately skilled and found the task relatively easy, also noticing thermal improvement afterwards.
I just updated the battery and did the thermal paste yesterday on my 2014 15” MBP. A lot easier than you’d think. And it fixed the trackpad that was not working properly as well.
Stephen Hunt Nice! I changed the battery, replaced the thermal paste, added ram, and popped in an SSD into my 2011, and my Daughter couldn’t be happier with it! I finally broke down and bought myself a 2020 13 “ MBP that will be here Thursday, but I’m so proud that my 2011 still has life!
Totally agree bro! It's a crime that they've been able to get away with removing basically all the ports from the computers! You forgot the optical drive from earlier models as well though! Those things aren't cheap to buy separately! They should definitely offer a 'pimp my ride' service for older models to get the current/close to current internals! That would be sweet!
Yes, I think its the last perfect MacBook is the 15inch model, I'm still using it for work, no thermal throttling like the new generation, it works like a charm!
My favorite one other than my new 16 inch would have to be the mid-2012 13 inch. It was my first MBP and I took out the optical drive to add another SSD and bumped the ram to 16GB. It was awesome!!
Watching this in 2024 on a 13" 2015 MacBook Pro with i7 3.1Ghz (Turbo 3.4Ghz) 16GB DDR3 and 2TB SSD seemlessly running Sonoma. It operates mainly in clamshell mode through a Henge dock connected to dual 27" screens editing Audio and Video along side the usual MS Office for work. No plans to change it any time soon.
After using a 2014 base model pro for a couple years. Pros are Mag safe, SD Card, HDMI. Cons pretty slow for video/ photo editing, fans turn on for no reason and are very loud. Would love to fully spec it out sometime. The M1 13" is the apple computer I've been waiting for. Its an absolute upgrade for everything. The only con is having to use adapters. But I still use my 2014 from time to time.
In 2023 I’m currently in between jobs and had to hop back from the 2021 16” M1 Pro version of the macbook being reviewed in this video to my dusty 2014 15” MacBook Pro. We can now install Ventura on these old macs but I am missing the usb c ports.
I bought one with 256GB a few months ago for school! (Senior in HS right now) and it's perfectly capable for everything that I have it to do! Only thing holding it back for me I would say is the 8GB of RAM, which soon is not going to be enough but right now it's perfect! Best bang for your buck!
I've still got my 2009 MBP, it's 11yrs old this month (Sep '20)...still works totally fine for day-to-day basic work, and of course, watching TED vids ;)
I have the 13 inch 2015 awesome computer however I decided to upgrade to the Macbook Pro M1 and the performance really is night and day but that glowing logo is awesome it feels old school. The M1 is a lot faster and smoother but from time to time I do use my 2015 for fun still works.
I bought mine a year ago on Swappa. 13", 2.9 ghz dual-core i5, 8 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD. I love this thing! I'm an accounting major so it's easier for me to have Windows but I run Parallels when I have to use the Windows verison of the Microsoft Office Suite or other applications. It handles everything effortlessly. I would like to get a new MacBook with the M1 chip but I need to wait until Parallels is ready... Even though I'm not entirely sure I'll make the leap. This laptop just does everything right!
Mine sadly died a couple of weeks ago. The battery swoll up so badly that the chassis got damaged and the repair would have been pretty costly. So I definitively recommend replacing the battery first if you get one used now. But it’s been an amazing computer. But I’m also enjoying the new 13 inch now and love the 4 thunderbolt ports. Being able to choose the side on which you want to plug something in is almost better than having all those ports without dongles. :D
Just bought one, I hope it’s as good as you say, just need to do some decent photo editing, which my iPad won’t do. Cheers, you make it sound even better than I thought it would!
the 2015 MacBook Pro's trackpad is Taptic Engine not actual physical clicks so showing us how it does't work if you try clicking on the edges it just doesn't make sense. Make sure you do your research.
This is exactly my editing computer. Final Cut struggles as soon as I start adding any type of transitions or text. It really slows me down during editing but I’m grateful I can still edit and upload to TH-cam. I’m planning on changing the stock 128gb and replace it with a Samsung Evo 1TB. I currently edit of two USB 3 Pioneer SSDs on a USB hub and they’re configured in RAID0 with almost 1GB/s transfer speeds which makes editing easier even if it’s not on the internal SSD.
Just got one in pristine condition for 600$ :D had the luck to be the 256gb instead of 128. The rest is just fine. I think the owner changed the display cuz the hinges are tight as hell and the screen has NO scratches :D and the battery (Even with 580cycles) holds for 6-7 hours. I’ve put a matte screen protection and is ready to code :D
My everyday carrier since September 2015, the basic 13inch model! I love it, never let me down, will last until I graduate next year and the first work years (I hope 🙄). Only upgrades I’m going to do are the SSD and the battery (it has 840 circles).
My first Mac was a 2012 13”, and I’m still using it to this day. 😂the stuff I have to do isn’t very intensive, so it’s perfectly fine for me. I’m definitely thinking about getting a used 2019 16” though
I have that exact same laptop and I love it! It has all the ports I need, I hate that you need to add dongles for the newer versions... it's DUMB! I hope these ports make a comeback for the newer models, though I doubt it.
Still using my 2.9GHZ early 2015 MBP! Very solid, although now the performance difference is more evident. I had my screen replaced for free by Apple due to the antireflective coating going away. Hope my next upgrade will be either a 14'', 16'' or an iMac! Those EOS R 4k files take forever to export with mine!
The Everyday Dad absolutely! And the integrated graphics have only recently seen a nice boost in MacBooks That’s also why I’m considering the bigger sized macs, better thermals and dedicated graphics cards. And the idea of having 40GB of ram in an iMac makes me drool!
I have mine in base model early 2015 13 inch, I'm using it as my main. The battery is kinda sucks now in 2021 and ram. Especially the storage. 128GB is never enough for your main computer storage.
This was my first Mac Book and it lasted me from 2015 to 2021, of course if I looked after it better (cleaning it after every use, using a case, change the battery) then it would still be a decent machine to use. I think if you have less than $700 or however much the M1 MacBook Air is, then you should really consider a well specked 2015 and even save a little money. Obviously you won’t get 5-10 years out of the thing but you’re definitely better going for one of these as opposed to the 2016-2018 models. Also MacBooks are getting chunky again so they won’t stick out look a sore thumb and if someone does notice they’ll probably salute you for your exquisite taste in the classics 😂👌

I just bought my Mac A1502 2015 from a specific service today. I just hope not to regret it.
Hey i am also thinking of buying one for 300 euros is it worth it?
The 2021 14 inch macbook pro is the long awaited second generation of this perfect macbook
I still have the 15.6" version and use it for my everyday work. And judging by all the problems which later on models faced, this probably was the last perfect MacBook according to me (Read: magsafe, ports, great keyboard!)
Now it’s great again!
This is also the first MacBook that I have owned and I LOVEEE it so much. I have had it for 5 years and it still works perfectly fine for me.
Same !! Same exact Mac I own and plan to have it for a long time . Love the ports :)
Watching this video on the same machine depicted in the video, the best computer I have used till now. Still works like a champ.
Right? Maybe I’ll see about doing some minor upgrades to this one if I can.
If my 6s plus could have a longer battery life I would never think about upgrading...2015 was a great year for Apple..
Watching it on just such a computer. Love keeping it clean, up-to-date, and otherwise optimized. Meets my needs as an office professional. Unless it fails me in some significant way, I'll keep it till it no longer gets updates.
Can you upload about best accessories for this macbook pro 2015 for programming and editing

I haven’t but maybe thats something I’ll do over the weekend.
TryMyMartini Changing to the SSD makes so much difference
I ordered this laptop today and it’s coming tommorow 👀, this video got me hyped 😌…
Just bought a used one today, I freaking LOVE IT! Cost me $380.00 and it looks and runs perfect!
That's a litteral steal tho.
I bought one today for $120, just had to purchase a new charger!!!
@@wonderfullymade4645 Now that's a deal!
8 gigs Ram, 500gb sdd, had to buy it a new battery for a total of ~$325
Totally agree bro! It's a crime that they've been able to get away with removing basically all the ports from the computers! You forgot the optical drive from earlier models as well though! Those things aren't cheap to buy separately! They should definitely offer a 'pimp my ride' service for older models to get the current/close to current internals! That would be sweet!
Yes, I think its the last perfect MacBook is the 15inch model, I'm still using it for work, no thermal throttling like the new generation, it works like a charm!
who needs a fingerprint sensor!! Have we gotten to a point where we're too lazy to type out 4 digits?
My favorite one other than my new 16 inch would have to be the mid-2012 13 inch. It was my first MBP and I took out the optical drive to add another SSD and bumped the ram to 16GB. It was awesome!!
Dang thats awesome, I never used one of those.
Did the exact same thing on mine... and still using it ;)
This was my first Mac too. I still use it everyday. Thanks for the review. Great video bro. 👌🙏
Ditto, I have the 2015 15 inch. I always set the backlighting of the keys to 1. It lights the keys nicely but NOT the gaps around the edges.
Me too!
I'm looking to get this when I'm attending college
Ahh miss the good old days when macbooks had ports that were useable without dongles...
If the trackpad isn’t clicking properly, the battery is likely a bit swollen. A change of battery will fix that.
I currently have this one, and bought it in 2015! It’s a great laptop. I’ve only changed the battery so far
But I still use my 2014 from time to time.
i still use this for editing too , absolute monster . creating ecosystem with my iphone xr and apple watch series 2 . i couldn't afford any new 😄
Exactly the same as me😆❤
In 2023 I’m currently in between jobs and had to hop back from the 2021 16” M1 Pro version of the macbook being reviewed in this video to my dusty 2014 15” MacBook Pro. We can now install Ventura on these old macs but I am missing the usb c ports.
Still using my early 2015 MacBook Pro 13-Inch Retina Display until now and still satisfied with it! ❤️
Hi. Can this be upgraded to the latest OS Monterey?
This + apple silicon + swappable SSD +DDR4 + slimmer bezels equals perfect mac.
So far, how its going for you? Is good for video and photo editing?
@@meluisguevara yes it's good
@@akiraandthemoon2551 thanks
this macbook is also good for online classes right?
I got a 2015 mbp after my Dell died. And omg this thing is amazing
It’s pretty decent for it’s age, it has about 425 charge cycles.
I can last a full schoolday for me so that’s good
Just purchased one in 2024 and came here for validation that I made the right decision. Thanks!
I just won one of these in a raffle yesterday 🙌🏽🙌🏽
howw
just bought an (according to him) nearly
perfect macbook 2015 from a family member for $175..... i can’t regret it at that price
the 2015 MacBook Pro's trackpad is Taptic Engine not actual physical clicks so showing us how it does't work if you try clicking on the edges it just doesn't make sense. Make sure you do your research.
Me watching this video on my MacBook Pro 13 inch Early 2015 Retina display :0
I still use 2015 MacBook Air with glowing logo 4gb ram it still is really snappy and great still my daily driver commenting on it rn
What size of footage do you edit ? Full hd ? 4k?
Just got one in pristine condition for 600$ :D had the luck to be the 256gb instead of 128. The rest is just fine. I think the owner changed the display cuz the hinges are tight as hell and the screen has NO scratches :D and the battery (Even with 580cycles) holds for 6-7 hours. I’ve put a matte screen protection and is ready to code :D
ayyyyyy 13 inch macbook pro 2015 gang rise up
My everyday carrier since September 2015, the basic 13inch model! I love it, never let me down, will last until I graduate next year and the first work years (I hope 🙄). Only upgrades I’m going to do are the SSD and the battery (it has 840 circles).
6 years later and it's still doing the job :)
It's was the best Macbook pro made. I put the 27" iMac from late 2013 in the same category. Both go for premium $ still on eBay.
I have just wired the money for this machine to my buddy who's upgrading. I think I'm gonna be in for some treat with this laptop.
My first Mac was a 2012 13”, and I’m still using it to this day. 😂the stuff I have to do isn’t very intensive, so it’s perfectly fine for me. I’m definitely thinking about getting a used 2019 16” though
Did you get it in the meanwhile?
I'm watching this on my early 2015 macbook pro, still works amazingly hands down the best macbook pro apple has ever made. Quite simply the goat.
How about the fan?noisy?
The passion for macbook ..so relatable..you earned a sub 👍👍
I have that exact same laptop and I love it! It has all the ports I need, I hate that you need to add dongles for the newer versions... it's DUMB! I hope these ports make a comeback for the newer models, though I doubt it.
Just bought my first 2015 macbook today. Got fed up with windows
I had a 2014 MBP 15 and quite honestly I now have an M1 pro and I couldn’t care less about carrying around a small anker hub.
Nice! Yeah the problem with video editing is the modern files really need more umph to render and transcode in decent time.
The Everyday Dad absolutely! And the integrated graphics have only recently seen a nice boost in MacBooks
That’s also why I’m considering the bigger sized macs, better thermals and dedicated graphics cards. And the idea of having 40GB of ram in an iMac makes me drool!
I have mine in base model early 2015 13 inch, I'm using it as my main. The battery is kinda sucks now in 2021 and ram. Especially the storage. 128GB is never enough for your main computer storage.
Same here. I did upgrade the storage to 240GB and yes the battery life kind of sucks.
MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015). I bought it in January 2016 and it's still running like new.
When he said “I’m a sucker for MacBooks” I felt that
Still slow for final cut pro with 8 GB RAM , not sure if I should sell it and buy the new M1?
