The most heartbreaking thing about this scene is that Wayne neither flinched nor questioned Dustin when he described Eddie's heroic actions. He's not at all surprised. He knew that Eddie would die doing all of those things. The Eddie that Dustin described was the real Eddie Wayne knew. His nephew, pretty much a son to him; the kid Wayne raised and loved.
It would've been so easy to have Mr. Munson either be neglectful and uncaring towards Eddie or outright abusive or even just a mentioned character we never see. But the Duffers took an extra step to make him a character and be the only one (outside of the party) in Eddie's corner when the town was against him. He wasn't essential to the story, but he added an extra bit of heart to it.
Thank you, this is why this scene hit me harder than Eddie's death. Knowing his Uncle believed in Eddie and knew he was innocent made me cry my eyes out, his Uncle loved him so much which is so important for kids/teens.
@@GoBuddieGo Definitely hits harder than the death since thinking Eddie had sense of accomplishment and love frm his friends in his last days but his uncle seems more alone and broken after losing his nephew and people around him not knowing the truth.
I'd like to think that Dustin would periodically visit Wayne and they'd develop a sort of friendship. Dustin seems like the type who would check up on him and make sure he isn't all alone.
The funny thing is: everyone in town hated Eddie because they thought he was a Satanist and went against their good Christian values. However, the way he took in the school's outcasts to Hellfire with open arms, and later sacrificed himself for the town that rejected him and absolutely didn't deserve him made him the most Christ-like.
Yoooo also he referred to them as little sheep. You rocked me with this cause I have been trying to figure out the religious undertones of the show. I now see that there was a theme of how being a true Christian isn't about what you know or the show you make but about having actual faith and love for others.
It's cool that his uncle wasn't the typical abusive drunk relative that had to take the marginal kid in charge because parents died. Instead, despite not owning a lot, he loved his nephew, he truly did
What’s amazingly impressive is that Dustin both told him the truth but didn’t give specifics on the upside down, but still gave Mr Munson his closure. An amazing scene all around. Probably one of my favorite next to when Hopper talked to El in the truck and apologized
"This town... that hated him" That is what sells it. Te act itself is completely selfless, very few people acknowledge it and thank it. Eddie died for the town that hated him.
Kudos to the cast managers for finding that guy. The type of actor that's perfect in a way: you don't recognize him from anywhere, he doesn't take much space in the movie, but still gives a stellar performance. I wish people like that were more often cast in those movies.
Eddie is like the X-Men/Mutants, X-Men swore to protect the people that hated them, Eddie sacrificed himself knowing that he's a wanted man and hated by the whole town.
Also, despite being the leader of the “Satan Club” his protecting and guiding of the towns outcasts is extremely Christian. Much like how mutants still have plenty in common with humans.
Such an underrated part of this show is not only showing the outcome of characters we care about, but also the “irrelevant” characters. Every one has someone that loves them and misses them when they’re gone. Writers nailed this scene making viewers cry with a character who only had 5 minutes of screen time over the whole season.
it probably felt amazing for Mr munson to know he wasnt the only person who saw eddie for who he really was. his impact on dustin will forever be a part of him
I couldn't agree more. Gaten Mattazaro is a born actor imo, because he never appears to be giving a performance. He's just so confident and natural. Plus, he has great comic timing. My favourite Dustin scene was when he was trying to sneak Dart into the house after trick or treating, without his mother knowing, but got caught. That exchange between Dusty's mum and him was hilarious. "What's wrong with you"? "Nothing". "Are you constipated again"? What? No! Mom?!! 😂
This scene made me cry so hard. After everything they had been through, all Mr munson needed was closure and dustin delivered it so well. No other character would have made such a large impact in such a small dialogue like that.
And that was all it took for him to know that at the very least, in his final moments, he did not die alone. Eddie was such a kind, intelligent and beautiful person.
At 2:51, I knew Dustin was going to say hero so I said it out loud when I was watching this with my family and when Dustin said those exact words I choked up. This scene is the just the icing on top of the cake for Eddie’s death.
I like to think Wayne was an old metalhead, into Sabbath, Deep Purple, Blue Oyster Cult, etc...and he raised Eddie on metal. The two jammed out together. Wayne really loved hid nephew. That's why this scene hits.
The thing that gets me about this scene is the fact that Wayne probably helped Eddie buy his first guitar, and his pick, and knew that Eddie was sentimental and kept it on him. He knew Eddie wouldn’t have let it go without a fight. That’s how he knew Dustin wasn’t being cruel or trying to pick at Wayne’s wounds. You can see the hesitation he holds when Dustin says he was with Eddie when everything went down, and the way he says “and where is Eddie now?” He’s conveying ‘give me a reason not to trust anything you say’, because the entire town was after Eddie, and as far as Wayne knew, he was the only one who believed Eddie to be innocent. So to hear someone so young, who seemed so unconnected to Eddie claim strongly that Eddie was innocent and a hero, it felt like too much. And Wayne probably felt relieved that at least more people would know of Eddie’s innocence, that was probably his greatest comfort despite his loss, to know that Eddie was known to his friends as innocent and a hero.
I love Dustin's character. So genuine and Eddie truly was a great friend for Dustin. Eddie's death was awful. Had me in tears. And so too did this scene. Gaten's acting is so sincere.
This is a real example how the real world it is, people will always judge you and you will try every day to demostrate you are good enough but at the end they wont care. Family will be the onlyones who will really believe in you.
This was the first time Dustin had watched someone die, and even worse is how Eddie died in his arms, he died in his arms, that is something that would create actual trauma. I like that in Season 5 he'll keep wearing his Hellfire T-shirt, it's a way to keep Eddie's memory with him
This scene was much harder to take than the actual death scene. As much as I want Eddie back (a testament to the actor's great acting skills), it isn't meant to be and shouldn't happen. This scene is the perfect completion and closer to Eddie's arc. It is his fate to be the unsung hero, to be his own D&D hero. The Duffer Brothers create such strong, fascinating side-characters. In my opinion they trump a lot of the main characters. They really get in the forefront of it all, and live up to the hype. They take responsibility, know their duty, they are selfless, witty, compassionate. Kudos. You will be sorely missed, Eddie. And I am eagerly awaiting your demise to be addressed once more in the final season. I believe it has been confirmed there will be some sort of Eddie tribute.
Probably the most heartbreaking scene in the entire series. I really hope Wayne will return in Season 5 in some fashion. The way Joel Stoffer played Wayne as a simple man with simple needs who's worn down by life, only to lose the one thing he ever loved, was just amazing. A criminally underrated performance.
They knew when they wrote the show that they had a special character with Eddie. They knew when they wrote his death it would break people's hearts. And they knew what they were doing including this scene. What a beautiful way to pay tribute to such a beautifully written character, all the more enhanced by the performance of the actor portraying him. Also, I have always believed he will be back in some capacity no matter what they want us to think.
Yes! You're probably the only person I've come across, other than myself, that truly believes Eddie will return in Season 5. I've always believed it, and copped a lot of derision from people online who keep telling me I'm deluding myself and should just accept that Eddie's dead. But I refuse to think that way. There are too many things that aren't passing the smell test.
I don’t know why but I only had a fear tears during Eddie’s death scene and none for max. But this scene, broke me. Waterworks. The acting and soft playing music while the uncle is trying to keep his composure as Dustin is trying to explain felt so real. Then just sitting and reminiscing everything they loved about Eddie, how much they cared, and how Eddie fought at the end. This scene is so amazing ❤️
This scene has more emotional value than Eddie's death since he died in action leaving as hero. But here, we can see the he helplessness and sadness of his old uncle who has to live with all the hate against Eddie and no way he can prove the people wrong. And the music and acting, its all hearts.
Eddie’s death broke me, man. He was such a great addition to the cast. But I'm glad Dustin gave Mr. Munson some closure. I loved him so much…dude was a brave individual with a passion for life. RIP. 😢❤
When Dustin pulled out Eddie’s guitar pick necklace, the water works started kicking it. At least Eddie’s uncle got closure instead of forever wondering what happened to his nephew 😢
killer scene, I've recently rewatched the season and have to watch this scene once more, their acting is phenomenal and it's so heartbreaking from start to finish, from Mr Munson replacing Eddie's vandalized picture to them both grieving together, and the feeling that at least SOME people knew Eddie and loved him the way he deserved.
This scene nearly got me teary-eyed. And I'm a soulless husk of a human so getting me to cry in movies is difficult lol The way Wayne always believed in Eddie's goodness, and Dustin reaffirms that goodness while still having to break horrible news, just really got me. Eddie will likely be hated by the town forever, but the real ones know the truth, and that's enough.
Dustin didn’t need to describe the specifics of how Eddie passed. All he wanted his uncle to know was what kind of a man he did grow up to be. He was chaotic, goofy, kind and one of the bravest men that Dustin had ever known. It is a shame that the town was so quick to judge Eddie without getting to know him but Dustin knew who Eddie truly was and did his part to save the town. Eddie Munson was indeed a hero
Stupid Jason had to taint his reputation and turn into a fuckin' nutjob vigilante. It is ironic how he sees Eddie as the leader of a cult when he himself is more like a cult patriarch
Eddie never should've died! He was too fun! But at least he died a hero, knowing he has friends who protected him and protected them as well, and last face he saw was his most trusted friend Dustin. I hope Vecna suffers for this and I hope Eddie's in a better place )=>
Think about all the horrible things Mr Munson had to endure hearing people say about Eddie, his nephew, maybe even verbal abuse from those people he got because he’s his uncle. Yet, here he’s hearing Dustin say all the things he knows about Eddie and wished they all were saying about him. Despite knowing that his nephew died and being heartbroken, Dustin gave Mr Munson closure and more by telling him about how Eddie fought and died protecting all of Hawkins and the people of that town who all hated him. How he’s a hero.
Still miss you Eddie munson to this day a character with an amazing heart and personality showing us to love ourselves , being ourselves and to care for others in those who need help the most best realistic character i seen for a show in my life
this just outright shows the fact that Eddie's Uncle Had No One Other Than Eddie Left, as hes seen changing the posters. (probably everyday) its just so sad man...
This is the saddest thing in this show I cry every time I watch this it hits you in the heart to realize that Eddie really did care about everyone and he loved everyone.
There’s so much to love about this scene: Dustin crying when he hands Eddie’s uncle the guitar pick but keeping his composure enough to tell his uncle what a great and brave person he was. And how the uncle is reserved at first because he’s probably expecting Dustin to talk shit about Eddie like everyone else in town was and then he’s letting himself break down as Dustin talks because he’s upset about losing his nephew and because Dustin might be the first one to say a legitimate kind thing about Eddie since season 4 started, maybe even ever
Eddie was with us for only a short time but made such a huge impact. This scene between Dustin and Eddie's uncle is so very special and sums up what an amazing person Eddie was. Dustin really loved Eddie and it was clear to see here. ❤❤
🤗this for me was an tearfully moment when Dustin explained to Mr. Munson how his son was a hero too save everyone that excuse Eddie of something not true.. Mr Munson needed to hear that..
Gaten Matarazzo is fantastic in this show! From the moment he opened his mouth in season one with his little cap on I just knew he was going to be my favourite and he was! He made me crack up numerous times and was always the smartest one in the group! I've been lucky enough not to have lost anyone that was super close to me and I dread the day it happens! If anyone has lost someone who they loved how on earth do you deal with it??? I would just like some advice for when the inevitable day comes because I honestly don't know how I would handle it...I'd appreciate it thank you and God bless ❤

this just outright shows the fact that Eddie's Uncle Had No One Other Than Eddie Left, as hes seen changing the posters. (probably everyday) its just so sad man...
Eddie never should've died.
This was such a sad sweet scene, the way Dustin talked to eddies uncle, was so sweet. I wish Eddie wasn’t dead. I wish they could bring him back
The Duffer Bros did the Mr. Munson character right. Most shows wouldn’t have mentioned them again after the first appearance.
This is the saddest thing in this show I cry every time I watch this it hits you in the heart to realize that Eddie really did care about everyone and he loved everyone.
This is where grown men and legends cried
It’s beautiful how after hearing everyone despise eddy mr Munson finally heard someone say he was innocent 😢
This scene made me more emotional than his actual death
The characters are so well developed, I love all of them.
I also love that his uncle never wavered in believing he was innocent.
🤗this for me was an tearfully moment when Dustin explained to Mr. Munson how his son was a hero too save everyone that excuse Eddie of something not true.. Mr Munson needed to hear that..
You can hear the slight sign of hope in his voice but can also tell he’s bracing himself for bad news when he asks “and where’s Eddie now?”
This scene will always break my heart.😢 Eddie deserved so much better.
When I saw Dustin cry I started crying too everyone hated him but he sacrificed his life for them
“Hero’s get remembered, but legends never die..”
Dustin is so underrated character he deserves more than his frnds dude
This scene always hits me in the feels
I never cry even when my own family dies, but this
Its real simple: Whenever Dustin cries, I cry
