Barca needs to free up wages and he won’t change their likely league position (3rd, maybe 2nd if others are crap) or CL (out in the round of 16 or the quarters)
@@deathmetalalchemist5861 Yet they spent 60 mil on a player they don't even need? How many attacking midfield options do then have now? Gundogan was the second highest rated player in la liga after only bellingham last year, not some surplus reserve. Objectively terrible move.
@@BailsofGlass I agree with you, Barcelona didn't need Dani Olmo, They could have used that money to get a good LW as there is no depth in that position. Regardless I am happy that Gundogan is back in Manchester City!!
Olmo was a terrible move with their finances, agreed … but letting Gundogan go changes nothing about how they’ll do this year or next and so it’s kind of a shrug…. A more interesting argument is which is the worse run club out of Barca or Chelsea
Good vid. I'd like to see a comparison (after this season) a comparison of Gundogan & Kovačić. Every player, even KDB need a season to settle into Pep's system. I'll bet Kova has a banger of a year in 24/25.
Gundo false 9 is still far better than kova. Kova probably a better ball carrier now more confident. Doesn't have the same attacking threat. There's a reason pep was okay not having a backup striker. Such a flexible squad.
He is the season why Man City won the treble in 22/23 season without Gündoğan city will never win the treble again City didn’t win the Champions League last season because Gündoğan wasn’t there
He is also the reason why city won the league in 21/22 season gundo turned up in the later stage of the season and scored some very important goals and on the last day it was only after he came on city managed a comeback from two goals down to beat aston villa 3-2 to win another title, he scored two goals that day.
Yes, Gundogan is obviously a great player with immense versatility. Though, that actually does not convince me that this solves any problem. Because Rodri's role is not versatility, it is something extremely specific that only Busquets really managed to do. I think it would make more sense to get Zubimendi, but then the question is whether Pep feels like molding ANOTHER Busquets-copy before he retires.
A bit of a stretch. Rodri's role is about versatility How has Kova been able to hold the mid with the absence of Rodri if its really about a specific role??
@@dyanhassanoor Because he hasn't? They had one game without Rodri, but last season it was very problematic everytime Rodri was absent. You can get some more context on that if you watch their video on Lewis. Where, the addition of Lewis might be more of a 'Rodri-fix' than the midfielders they currently have. Either way, this one victory doesn't take away that playing without Rodri has heavily handicapped city last season. And rightfully so, given his qualities.
@TIMxisxHERE you still haven't been able to answer my question. How exactly has Kova been able to handle the absence of Rodri in the last two City games? Also, just to mention. Zubimendi doesn't leave Real sociedad to come to city as a back up player. He snub Arsenal where he was guaranteed game time and Liverpool too. What makes you think he can come to City where game time is limited to play only when Rodri is injured?
@@dyanhassanoor Well, I don't think he has handled the absence at all. That was the answer. Take a look at that Ipswich game for example, that first goal is mainly on Kova who doesn't close down on his opponent. As good as Kova is going forward, I think he is more of an 8 than he is a 6. In the Croatian team he also plays more of an 8 and not a 6. Now, that's also part of Pep's way of doing things. He really wants 6s that are good on the ball, which is a rarity. To cover Kova's lacking defence, Lewis is put into play who partially does that job. Which is why you also see him a lot more centrally, and not at all on the flanks. On top of that, Kova was swapped out in the second half, that's usually not a great look. In came Stones, not a midfielder at all. So, your question is how he handled it, which is way I said; He hasnt. Because I dont think he handled it at all; Pep is now forced to change other positions and use 2 players to cover for Rodri. This may seem like I think Kova is a bad player and he really is not, he is absolutely great. But he is no Rodri, and that's been City's problem for quite a while. It just never showed too much because Rodri is almost always fit. On Zubimendi; I dont think he's coming either. I don't think he is going to leave Sociedad at all. But I think that's the kind of player they are looking for. If anyone is close to Rodri's profile, it's him. Whether you can get him is a different story, but that doesn't make Gundogan the answer to everything.
I said at the time he made the difference when they won the CL. He should have been a genuine *contender* for balon dor that year. Bizarrely Rio was shouting that as I typed, but if he was talking about Gundogan well at least that's two of us who thought so.

@@philtaylor8863you do know that this transfer could only happen because Gundogan was willing to give up his year extension at Barca. City wanted a midfielder and Barcelona wanted Olmo so they needed to get rid of a big wage earner. You’re talking like City paid off the €40 million that Barca owes De Jong.
@@karmaascendant3936 you raise an interesting point have City paid off the money Barca owed De Jong? and got Gundagan back, taking him off the wages. Wow you have to admit Pep loves Barca.
I find it funny people bashing barca for this move. Like there squad is full of quality midfielders . Olmo, torre, fermin , pedri, casado, bernal , gavi even have defenders like Christensen and garcia go into midfield. Gundo isnt bad to the point he would be okay being the mentor on the bench. He was the odd man out because of the la masia talent coming up.
Gundo was your best midfielder last season. You need a player who is reliable and experienced, Gundo gave both of that. Everyone and their mum knows Barca has some of the WORST management, especially after the Roque situation. I hope you know that one of Christenson and Garcia will leave, Gavi is injured, Pedri, Olmo and fermin are completely different profiles. That leaves 2 17 year olds to cover for Gundo's positon for the WHOLE season
Gundogan is the biggest PL transfer this window
Kovacic was immense against chelsea. Rodri not even back yet and gundo added to the equation. The depth is insane
