  • I have lots of Indian Artist idols and most of them use or have used Camel watercolors. Ofcourse the quality of work mainly depends on the artist's talent and skill, but it is also interesting to try sometimes what they use. And that idea got me in to trying out this set!
    "Camel Artists’ Water Colours in tubes are formulated using only the finest quality ingredients to ensure maximum purity, transparency and clear tones. The even texture of colour, richness of hue and uniformity in various tonal values are the hallmarks of Camel Artists’ Water Colours. They are available in 48 shades."

    Camel has 48 watercolour shades available in 20ml tubes (each tube costing just 1 US$ or less depending on the series a particular colour belongs to)! Very trustworthy brand. Most of the colours are extremely light-fast. Do trust their labels on the light-fastness. They have been manufacturing pains since 1930s. Most-sold brand in India. Majority of the professional artists use Camel brand (Kokuyo Camlin is the company name. Camel is the brand name) paints, be it watercolours, oils or acrylics.

      Thanks for the info! I would really want to try out all the colors. and despite the fact the they didn't provide the pigment codes, i still feel that these paints are really good because the experience proves it. the texture is good and they're really highly pigmented. it is also very affordable. i wish, they soon ship to the Philippines.

    Camel makes these paints, art materials in almost 8 to 10 times cheaper in cost . Thus making it possible for us in India to make a decent art. Its almost impossible for most of us to afford even the cotman of WN or any similar stuff. Here in India we get "Artist Watercolour tube 12 shades of 5 ml" from Camel for only 2$.It is quite impossible for most other biggest brands to make in this low budget still with surprising quality.
    Indian artists are everywhere.. millions of them are self tought, utilizing 1-5$ brushes, 0.1$ local sheets .

    Camel Artist Color is the first choice of most artists or art enthusiasts in India. Because the first thing is that Camel has been doing great work for less money for years. In my opinion, because the color-gradient of camel is more, this color lasts longer for more vibrancy and more spread of color and the painting can be well controlled by using less and more colors. I am not a professional artist. But art is my favorite hobby and a good way to spend time.I have been using this brand since I learned watercolors.

    All my life I've been a Winsor & Newton person. Until Daniel Smith came out. Then I was a Daniel Smith person. I found these paints on Amazon about a week ago. I found a set of 24 tubes for 9 US dollars. So I couldn't help but purchase it. After about a week of using these paints I'll forever be a Kokuyo camel user. Especially when I can get an entire 24 set for less money than one 5ml tube of w&n and Daniel Smith. Never again will I be foolish enough to pay to dollar for that which I can bet a better performance out of for less than 50 cents a tube. I love them so much, so much better than Holbein or Winsor & Newton, I just had to look and see if artists or there have heard about these paints.
    Now I can drop my finished work peice prices by more than half and undercut the flooded at market. Maybe, we'll see. No one need know I got my supplies so inexpensively. However I don't know that my catholic conscience will allow me to overcharge people. We'll see, we'll see.

    Hahaha! You are the best! I wanted 2 sets because, you know...I wanted to hoard. 🤣🤣
    Sooo me! If one is good - 2 is better. However, I do have a reason for some of my purchases, in most cases, art supplies do not go bad. I have supplies I bought 15 years ago and can pull them out and start using them.
    Some of the supplies I have purchased, I found on sale or clearance at very very good price, it's always when I have extra money and some items that I bought years ago, I almost wouldn't be able to afford today. Some watercolors, sketch books, paper, brushes.
    So my point is, I don't worry myself over good purchases, even if it's not something I plan on using immediately. Because when the time comes that I decide to use what ever item it is, I enjoy knowing I can just dive in and not worry about having the money available to purchase the item.
    Also, your watercolor reviews are my absolute favorite to watch. I love seeing the swatches, but ABSOLUTELY enjoy the painting you do with each set.

      @AllanJayQuesada  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      hahaha! Now Im glad, Im not the only one. hahaha
      We are sharing all the same reasons! and sometimes, I tell myself that these great materials are like investments as the prices of these go higher year by year. I have bought some vintage watercolors to review, and to my surprise, they still activate and perform like the new once and it's feels soo great to have them. another resort is to sell them online, not just to earn profit but more on to share or to reach out materials to your locality.. like when i went to Spain, i bough a bunch of great paints that arent available in PH.. and now I have them available in my online store. :)
      i also buy from sellers like me, so im happy to be the bridge. :)

Hmmm. if you are gonna buy local paints, the PintaPH is honestly in my opinion, "not yet that developed", to be called an artist grade as they claim and as they price it, so, im not recommending it as of the moment.. if you are looking from paints that are cheaper here but not necessarily local, i think you can scout for Asian brands like Holbein (Available In Deovir and ArtWhale). According to In Liquid Color, Holbein is sooo expensive in US. She was thankful some artist friends sent here some Holbein pans(Oto Kano if Im not mistaken..) The other asian brands like shinhan, mijello and whitenights, im not so sure if theyre cheaper here.. maybe you can compare the prices through Deovir's facebook page. you can message them and theyll reply in a day. Mijello are available in Artbar but im not sure if theyre cheaper. SHinhan PWC, I have some sets. i have 42 color set at around 3usd per 15ml tube and the complete set of 84 colors. yes its crazy. hehe. let me know when you are coming so i can help you search for materials. :)

Unfortunately, our flight was already en route when the Philippines added Taiwan to the list, and I had a connection there from California. I decided to come back to the US same day and now Im home. Carlin has a nice website now and has all the pigment information and lightfastness ratings on there. Incredible prices! I can buy a set of 24 Artists grade 5 ml here in UK for £12 which is amazing. I will have to see in the new year whether I can get these, they are certainly worth a look, and I know of some of the artists using them. This is a nice review and your paint out was really lively and good. If I get them I will put them into a palette to dry and then use them, I saw another review and they do not crack in the palette in fact they dried beautifully and were not chalky. Obviously the price is good because there are concessions somewhere to keep them low, I guess this is clear when you read the pigment info, there are a lot of mixes and very few single pigments. However this does not bias me against them. The fact that a very good Japanese arts and stationary manufacturer has teamed up with them gives me confidence, not that they aren’t super affordable and rather nice.

Which is good because most cheaper paints are best used fresh, but maybe when they're dry and rewetted, the thick feeling is not as obvious. I have a question... Between Prussian blue and Cobalt blue hue which one is warm and which one is cool? I feel like Prussian blue is warm when I paint it beside the cobalt blue hue and also when I mix crimson lake with cobalt blue hue I get a more vibrant purple... But you said that Prussian blue is a cool blue....So I am really confused 😅

    • @AllanJayQuesada
      @AllanJayQuesada  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi. sorry for the late reply.. Prussian Blue is closer to Cyan which is the absolute primary blue color. Prussian blue was used long before Phtlalo blue was found as the main cool blues in palettes. the real cobalt blue color made out of PB28 for me is a mid blue, but could get closer to warm blue. the Cobalt blue of Camlin is using a mixture of pigments (i believe) to avoid using PB28 which is an expensive pigment. i suspect, the cobalt blue of Camlin uses PB29 and PB15 (a warm and a cool blue). if you use Prussian blue to make violet, it may really confuse you of getting a less vibrant result as it is very deep blue,.. but not necessarily warm. try spotting for a more vibrant and lighter cool blue like Phthalo Blue(PB15:3 or PB15) or Turquoise blue (PB16) for a more vibrant purple. using a red that is PR122 based will also surely gonna help. :)

I have only used these as other brands can be rather expensive. It does have some binder issues in few tubes but I find it a good investment for people who want to practise their techniques. Ahw.. sorry about your experience. Probably a bad batch went to you. New packaging but old tubes. Yung akin, ok naman. Actually, i was able to handpour them in pans and sold them here sa atin during the quarantine. I was able to make 8 sets from the 20ml tubes. Did you not try to ask for replacement or refund sa store?

    - it was tie with White Nights!!! 10€ vs 80€
    - Daniel Smith won, what surprise!?! But is the difference that much? 100x times?

    • @AllanJayQuesada
      @AllanJayQuesada  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you've been seeing other artists place daniel smith on top most of the time, that may mean something. I'm sorry, which one is tie with white nights? Pricing is different depending where you are coming from and where you buy it from. But still, Camlin's price is remarkable still even if i got it from Amazon US. Daniel Smith's price is well accepted by many professional artists, including me, for some reasons not elaborated on screen. Daniel Smith is not 100x better (which i never indicated, maybe only 10x better😉) compared to Camlin, for the following 10 reasons.:
      1. DS has full and proper product documentation and information in packaging and in website.
      2. Wide range of colors (200+) for different artist needs
      3. Excellent lightfastness rating to almost all the colors
      4. Pigment information clearly specified
      5. Sturdy aluminum tubes (yes Camlin's not tough, it broke because of PB27's bloating)
      6. Primatek colors only present to DS uses premium materials and some are semi prescious stones
      7. Daniel smith has better customer service (they replied to my inquires, camlin didn't)
      8. DS doesn't any odor.
      9. DS boxes and tubes are more secured and sturdier, so tubes are safer in transportation.
      10. Generally more transparent colors
      Well, not all these 10 advantages are necessary (to all). But options are options and the options there are, the more people get pleased. DS, vs White Nights? That's a different comparison as the price is only around 4-5x compared to DS.

      @@AllanJayQuesada : oh man! Thank you for ur detailed reply. I was talking about Camlin as compared to all the high priced ones. The fact that Camlin even has a tie with White Night is commendable. As for DS, I know it is great colors, just sad that how much it cost. So I just wanted to understand, if that price of DS was really worth it, since the cost of 1 DS tube is the whole set of Camlin. That's all. I really like your comparison. I'm a fan. :)

      @@isqeisqe i understand your wondering because of the price difference.. I emailed camlin asking for the Pigment codes if there was any, as it is an important info. If they had provided it to me, i would have placed this set much higher. Credible Lightfastness and Pigment jnformation gives us confidence in our paints specially if used for clients and commissions. It doesn't (sometimes) matter if it costs, 2x or 20x or 50x as long as it gives confidence and assurance that my work wont fade.. i really love Camlin for its low price but great performance. I actually tried ordering it at Amzon India, but unfortunately, they dont ship to PH. thank you also for your question and welcome yo my channel. 🎨😉

      - - I am on the verge of buying White Nights watercolor tubes. I took a que from your videos and selected 12 amazing colors that I really need... Single pigment, transparent, 3star lightfast etc. etc. And then, I see a 24 white night palette on Amazone for the same price. Some colors I need, most I don't, some don't have the great ratings. What do you think I should do, be greedy or not?
