    Hi,thank you for the lovely painting by using Marie 's watercolour paint. This set is designed for students and beginners. When I started painting,I used this brand in China,I did enjoy using them. But when our level is higher,we know how to use the paint better and choose higher level paint. The beginner does very simple painting, not a four different distances in one landscape as you did. They paint very simple painting, so it's easy to deal with the colours and mix with colours.And Marie has an artist grade set, i really love it. Yes, the quality is very good as its price. But don't try the Chinese traditional paint use as watercolour, they are totally different.

      @@AllanJayQuesada Thank you for the reply, I will have a look your video later, didn't realise this one you did was two years ago. Sorry, should watch more then write a message. Paint hasn't been changed, but we have changed a lot. I still remembered how excited I was when I got the first set of paints. To explore the different things is always fun, and find the right art supplies is hard. But when I use the kids paint and play with them, it's nothing about how expensive the paint is, it's the passion and fun. Thank you for making this video. It made me think quite a lot yesterday.

    I do think na disappointing ang reviews ng Marie's watercolor dahil hindi siya intended for cotton paper. The paints are meant for traditional Chinese painting through silk and rice paper.

    • @AllanJayQuesada
      @AllanJayQuesada  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In their website, they have a dedicated set for Traditional Chinese painting (link below). So i believe yan yung tinutukoy mo po. But this set i reviewed is their typical watercolor lang released internationaly. Aside from this set, they also have the artist grade watercolor "Maries Masters", which I reviewed din here, and it's quite good, no issues on cotton paper at all. And it's cheap. Hope you could also check it out.

I used to paint and I thought I wanted to start again so I bought this exact Marie's watercolors but the one in 14 colors, addition for gamboge and cerulean blue. Hello, I'm a new subscriber to your page! I love your watercolor brand reviews. I think I have this Marie's set but the box is different it's in a blue box not green but the watercolor tubes packaging inside is almost the same with this one and all the colors inside. My 1st watercolor was the chalky simbalion I bought when I was still in the Philippines I stopped painting for a long time because I was so disappointed with my outputs using simbalion but when I got a hold of this Marie's cheap watercolor here in the Middle east it was the only decent and cheap watercolor I could find much better than the other local brands. I actually like it better and my outputs are far more better than using the simbalion. I'm considering buying an artist grade watercolor set because I want to invest in a better set of paints so that I could make better artworks but I'm so confused what to get at all I see a lot of good reviews on US and European brands like Daniel Smith, Schminke, Sennelier, and White Nights. I also see lots of good reviews on Asian brands like Holbein, Mijello, and ShinHan watercolors sets. That's why I'm confused and can't choose what to get at all hahaha I really like bright colors and granulating watercolors. I want your opinion on this what would you choose? Quality and budget wise what set to choose? I have not tried watercolor pans yet except for the simbalion. So I don't know if it's better to stick to tubes or try the pans. To be honest where I am right now there's not much of these brands that is easily accessible on the local art store so I will probably order online overseas and it will cost me a fortune so I just want an investment that I will not regret at all. Thank you.

      Hi Alice, welcome to my channel. I can understand your disappointment brought by not so good material. I have experienced that in grade school and even blamed myself believing it was me who was at fault. In my experience, all artist grade paints I have tried are all great. i mean they are vibrant and easy to work with. Not chalky and a little paint goes a long way because of high pigment load. But I think, You are now on the stage where you are starting to identify your cup of tea when it comes to paint brands..different artist grad have different fortes. If you want granulation, wide color range and special pigments (some semi precious stones), the choice is nothing but Daniel Smith. If you are into super bright paints, go for Holbein or Mission Gold. If you want translucence and do a lot of layering in your work, I suggest Sennelier. If you want subtle and buttery smooth lovely paints, Schmincke is the for you. If you want the most affordable but also good artist grade paints, get White Nights. If you want very flowy paints, QOR is the only one to have. the most pigmented are Daniel Smith next to Mgraham, but it never dries on pans. See, there are lots of options. If i had to really pick one for you, I would suggest you to get ether the Daniel Smith ultimate mixing Set (pans set) or the White NIghts Pans set. :)

    Being honest with reviews is good! Very impressed with how well you worked with the limitations of not having a proper blue there. Their 18 tube set does have a Ultramarine and a Cerulean blue shade, at least. Very odd they didn't include either of those in the 12!

      Thank you!! It would not make sense if I would not be telling my real experience. I actually saw the 18 color set, with the blues that I want, and I feel a little sad for the brand not to include those colors in the smaller set. Im sensing theyre doing this so that the more serious artists choose the 18 color set. heheh

      @@AllanJayQuesada Quite possibly! Though the 18 color set isn't that much more than the 12, if I remember correctly. I do wonder if the other blues are a little more expensive, since the browns are always cheaper, and that was the logic. Either way, it just results in a poorly balanced set.

      I try to put the same effort in each painting per brand I review, yet the results won't all be the same. My comments are based on the paint's character and not on the 'beauty' of the painting. And as they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so I respect your opinion. I have no reason or motive not be fair on any brand, so I don't understand why I was "unfair" here. If the sample paintings are not of the same quality, you should've just looked at side by side swatches and texture of the paints.
