Guys! I could hug you right now! I am 62 years old and facing hip replacement surgery next month and waiting for my disability checks to start coming and my black tank got stuck. It is very painful for me to kneel down and deal with this, but, I had to. I was so upset to think I might have to spend money ( I don't have yet ) to get someone to get it unclogged. I would have spent time waiting for some kind of drain cleaner, you get the picture. I did not have any help, so I used my broom (bristles up) to hold up the hose . I was able to fill it up enough to close the grey tank, then jerk it around like you showed, then threw it to the ground. I soon heard the beautiful sound of liquids coming down and to verify it worked I saw other 'stuff' coming out and I knew it worked! I actually teared up. Thank you so much, sorry for the long post, but, it's people like you that should get a Nobel Peace Prize :) No tools, no money, just worked. THANK YOU!!!!!!!
Being brand new to living in a used travel trailer...full time...its overwhelming all the issues that need to be addressed. Thank goodness for TH-cam & individuals like you that take the time to guide others in this RV life. As you can see by all the comments, it's so stressful to have concerns that RV techs will charge huge costs to maybe, or maybe not help you with. As has also been mentioned..its $200 just for them to come out. Some of us are living like this to save money, & its an insult really to be at the mercy of techs that sometimes take advantage. I've resorted to not using my rv toilet because of a leak at the base where pipe connects from toilet down to tank. Doing a camping toilet situation instead until/if I can get it fixed. For now I'm just grateful for the place to live safely, & the rest will sort it self out. Thank you for helping so many people with these basic needs to give them peace & ease the stress!!

Absolutely full tank (the gurgling type!) and only a slow, slow trickle coming out. Used this technique twice, pulled the plug and out with a rush it came!! Many thanks man!

I'm making a trip on Saturday from WA to NC, and the tanks need to be completely empty. They wanted to charge me from $900 to $1,500 depending on hours spent with a $200 charge just to show up. This is my first time commenting on TH-cam. This totally works. It might not work once or twice but keep trying with the hose full and it will shake loose whatever is clogging. We're newbies 2nd year and appreciate all the videos to help during RV life. God Bless!

Amazing. As a last minute Hail Mary prior to writing a huge check I thought I would try this. Bless you, thank you, and bless you again. I followed your simple instructions and it worked first time. This was after roadside service said they couldn’t help me because it needed a new knife valve and the tank was full. After a million failed phone calls for help I was ready to drop my newer 40 foot Class A at the junk yard. Thank you again.
I tried every trick in the book while camping. Nothing worked and we were only hooked up to water and electricity. I tried this trick while dumping sewage on the way home and it worked first try! Boiling water, chemicals, and plungers did nothing, but this really works
God bless you! We just got through a freeze, and had to use the bathroom in emergency only. We apparently were not putting enough water into the toilet afterwards, and created a block inside. This trick worked perfectly! Thank you again so much.

You are a miracle worker! Thank you for posting this trick. Only one suggestion: make sure your connection to your rig is very tight. When I shook the hose filled with water I actually accidentally twisted the pipe. And as the water came after the plug un plugged the hose dropped to the ground. You can imagine what happened next 😮... Immediately closed the black tank. Fortunately the water that came out first was the fresh water we had just put in the Grey tank. Alls well that ends well, and this problem ended well. Thank you again!!
Seems like I’m not the first to the party here, LOL. Seriously, of all the videos I looked for… And Google searches I did, your video is the only thing that solved the problem. My wife and I are on our fourth trip with our trailer, and had her first real black water tank issue. Doing this plus connecting a hose (and rinsing through) the backflush spigot completely emptied the tank. Thank you so much for making this video, it reduce my stress level significantly! 😊🙌

Lifesaver.... after the nightmare of sitting in the rain having black tank mess all over me after trying to get toilet paper clog to release.... took about 6 repeat of this but my tank is cleaner then it’s ever been...!!! I did purchase trailer from previous owner.... again this works perfect thank you thank you thank you...!!!!

Grey tank was empty so I filled it with hot water, drained some into the hose, chucked the hose up and down a couple times let it fall and BAM out came the black water. I agree with many. I'm not a newbie but for the first time since I've owned my pull behind, I've been parked in one place for over a year. The stuff that's supposed to dissolve the solids isn't working well and I had a blocked tank. Went and got an extention hose, followed your instructions and the blockage ran out. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Great idea. I have actually seen this method used successfully. On another note, as you said yourself, it's usually the toilet paper that will cause a clog like this, especially if you leave your black tank dump valve open all the time while at a campground - which you should not do. In that case all your liquid continually drains and your hard waste and paper stays behind forming that ugly outhouse pyramid. Only open your black tank dump valve when you are ready to empty it - around 2/3rds full. You need the liquid to help the solids flow out. Another note ... in our many years of RVing we have never put any toilet paper down our toilet. We keep a small pail beside the toilet with a plastic bag in it. Any paper used goes into the bag instead of the toilet and gets discarded - immediately if you just went #2 - into the trash bin. You can even use a Diaper Genie. From the many campers I've talked to I find that more and more people are also doing this. Toilet paper is also notorious for plugging up the tank level sensors ... which we don't have to worry about. Also, if you use the recommended, hideously thin RV toilet paper you're no doubt familiar with the finger up bum thing. Well, with our pail method you can still use your favorite home brand of toilet paper and enjoy the "go".
Hi Rick! All good points there for sure. We have seen an increase of the number of people who do not discard toilet paper into the toilet. Personally, we just ensure that we have plenty of water in there before during and after use and we haven't had a problem. We might reconsider this when boondocking though in order to conserve water usage and blacktank capacity. Great info though from all your years experience. Thank you! I'm always amazed at people that leave black and grey open. We always wait for the black tank to hit that 2/3rds mark and then flush with a full grey after.

Update: IT WORKED! I had to drop it twice but it worked. I’m a full timer and the RV place I’m at won’t give me the code to the crappers for temporary guest. You saved me from either crapping outside in the yard or trying to find a close local business that I could blow up. Such a relief. I’m really glad I didn’t attempt what I was thinking of doing. This is my first time commenting on TH-cam. This totally works. It might not work once or twice but keep trying with the hose full and it will shake loose whatever is clogging. We're newbies 2nd year and appreciate all the videos to help during RV life. God Bless!

Amazing. As a last minute Hail Mary prior to writing a huge check I thought I would try this. Bless you, thank you, and bless you again. I followed your simple instructions and it worked first time. This was after roadside service said they couldn’t help me because it needed a new knife valve and the tank was full. After a million failed phone calls for help I was ready to drop my newer 40 foot Class A at the junk yard. Thank you again.

I tried every trick in the book while camping. Nothing worked and we were only hooked up to water and electricity. I tried this trick while dumping sewage on the way home and it worked first try! Boiling water, chemicals, and plungers did nothing, but this really works

You are a miracle worker! Thank you for posting this trick. Only one suggestion: make sure your connection to your rig is very tight. When I shook the hose filled with water I actually accidentally twisted the pipe. And as the water came after the plug un plugged the hose dropped to the ground. You can imagine what happened next 😮... Immediately closed the black tank. Fortunately the water that came out first was the fresh water we had just put in the Grey tank. Alls well that ends well, and this problem ended well.

My wife and I are on our fourth trip with our trailer, and had her first real black water tank issue. Doing this plus connecting a hose (and rinsing through) the backflush spigot completely emptied the tank. Thank you so much for making this video, it reduce my stress level significantly! 😊🙌

Lifesaver.... after the nightmare of sitting in the rain having black tank mess all over me after trying to get toilet paper clog to release.... took about 6 repeat of this but my tank is cleaner then it’s ever been...!!! Absolutely amazing!! Our toilet was full to the top because we were using the clean out feature and weren’t watching the tank level. Thank You Thank You. So I watched this last night, had to give it a try today. been fighting this clog for a couple days. Grey tank was empty so I filled it with hot water, drained some into the hose, chucked the hose up and down a couple times let it fall and BAM out came the black water. I agree with many. I'm not a newbie but for the first time since I've owned my pull behind, I've been parked in one place for over a year. The stuff that's supposed to dissolve the solids isn't working well and I had a blocked tank. Went and got an extention hose, followed your instructions and the blockage ran out. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Great idea. I have actually seen this method used successfully.
On another note, as you said yourself, it's usually the toilet paper that will cause a clog like this, especially if you leave your black tank dump valve open all the time while at a campground - which you should not do. In that case all your liquid continually drains and your hard waste and paper stays behind forming that ugly outhouse pyramid. Only open your black tank dump valve when you are ready to empty it - around 2/3rds full. You need the liquid to help the solids flow out.
Another note ... in our many years of RVing we have never put any toilet paper down our toilet. We keep a small pail beside the toilet with a plastic bag in it. Any paper used goes into the bag instead of the toilet and gets discarded - immediately if you just went #2 - into the trash bin. You can even use a Diaper Genie. From the many campers I've talked to I find that more and more people are also doing this.
Toilet paper is also notorious for plugging up the tank level sensors ... which we don't have to worry about. Also, if you use the recommended, hideously thin RV toilet paper you're no doubt familiar with the finger up bum thing. Well, with our pail method you can still use your favorite home brand of toilet paper and enjoy the "go".
Hi Rick! All good points there for sure. We have seen an increase of the number of people who do not discard toilet paper into the toilet. Personally, we just ensure that we have plenty of water in there before during and after use and we haven't had a problem. We might reconsider this when boondocking though in order to conserve water usage and blacktank capacity. Great info though from all your years experience. Thank you!

I'm always amazed at people that leave black and grey open. We always wait for the black tank to hit that 2/3rds mark and then flush with a full grey after.

IT WORKED! I had to drop it twice but it worked. I’m a full timer and the RV place I’m at won’t give me the code to the crappers for temporary guest. You saved me from either crapping outside in the yard or trying to find a close local business that I could blow up. Such a relief. I’m really glad I didn’t attempt what I was thinking of doing. I’m sure it would have been a shit show.
