I mean, yeah, makeup like foundation and concealer is silly and fruitless on most people under 13, but there's no universal law that says only above 13 can wear it. I would occasionally wear makeup as young as 5th grade, but it was totally because I found it fun. and it was only stuff like eyeshadow and tinted lip products. there's nothing wrong with young girls having fun with makeup. I think the real problem with the dolls isn't that they have makeup, but the way they have such weirdly sexualized bodies and faces. The one woman isn't giving the dolls a "makeup free look," that implies it's the original dolls look, simply without makeup. She's making completely different dolls. Remaking them. They aren't makeup free versions. They're realistic dolls that use a bratz doll as the base. Half of them don't even have the same eye color.

Baba Yaga when i was 9 i had a girl scout barbie, i accidentially left it at my grandmother's house and she hid it from me and didn't give it back until i was about to leave the next time i came over. She then gave me a lecture on how vulgur and unrealistic the doll was and how if i ever brought another barbie doll in her house she would burn it. The entire time, i just wanted to tell her off and that i wasn't a stupid kid who thought i should have big boobs and only weigh 63 pounds. Im 13 and i still remember the exact words she told me.
They technically repainted the dolls, so that is not what they would look without makeup. It's just a repaint for more of a realistic look... And why would you remove the mole ? It's a key feature to the doll. It's not makeup it's a part of what she looks like ...

Honestly, the before versions look better, the after versions are frightening. The thing about Bratz dolls is that they are stylized. When you take something with such a stylized base and try to make it realistic, you end up with 'Uncanny Valley'. Urgh.

i wouldn't so much say that this is what the dolls look like without makup. these are doll face-ups. she doesn't just make the doll look like she has no makeup, she gives them an entirely new face. she changes their eye shape completely, their eye colours, lip shape, and everything. so it's not really the same doll with no makeup, it's the same doll with entirely different face-painting. i do like how she makes natural, child-like face-ups, but i wish she didn't remove all the details, like moles and everything. i'd like to see more variety, though. she makes them all the same type of girl with the same aesthetic.

Not necessarily. Some adults still have their toys and many children keep their toys throughout their teenage years. Not to mention that those affected by the dolls during childhood often go into the modeling career and become plastic people on magazine covers in stores. Kids and adults LOVE looking at those for some reason.

It should be a parent's responsibility to tell their children that dolls and celebrities don't always represent them or the average person. The dolls alone aren't a problem. What this video didn't go into is that there are many contributing factors in modern life, all contributing to poor body image, and sexualization of young girls. Making some dolls without makeup, would mean girls being surrounded by images of made up, and natural girls, helping to impress upon them the idea of choice.

why do people get so offended when dolls wear makeup? I grew up with dolls and NEVER was influenced to wear makeup at a young age, or "look like a bratz doll". I wear makeup because I think it's fun. God damnit.

I would occasionally wear makeup as young as 5th grade, but it was totally because I found it fun. and it was only stuff like eyeshadow and tinted lip products. there's nothing wrong with young girls having fun with makeup. I think the real problem with the dolls isn't that they have makeup, but the way they have such weirdly sexualized bodies and faces. Bratz is worse for this. all of their dolls have this sultry expression that's ridiculous and nothing like what any kid let alone grown adult would look like. it's really not the makeup, it's what it's put on. bright lipstick for example is fun and more of an example of self expression than an attempt to look more attractive.

Baba Yaga when i was 9 i had a girl scout barbie, i accidentially left it at my grandmother's house and she hid it from me and didn't give it back until i was about to leave the next time i came over. She then gave me a lecture on how vulgur and unrealistic the doll was and how if i ever brought another barbie doll in her house she would burn it. The entire time, i just wanted to tell her off and that i wasn't a stupid kid who thought i should have big boobs and only weigh 63 pounds. Im 13 and i still remember the exact words she told me.

We are a generation based on technology and the future. One thing that made me heated was that you changed some of their eye colors from hazel to blue. Also, are teenagers not supposed to have moles? i wouldn't so much say that this is what the dolls look like without makup. these are doll face-ups. she doesn't just make the doll look like she has no makeup, she gives them an entirely new face. she changes their eye shape completely, their eye colours, lip shape, and everything. so it's not really the same doll with no makeup, it's the same doll with entirely different face-painting.

Not necessarily. Some adults still have their toys and many children keep their toys throughout their teenage years. Not to mention that those affected by the dolls during childhood often go into the modeling career and become plastic people on magazine covers in stores. Kids and adults LOVE looking at those for some reason.
+pro blem To be fair it's not the responsibility of toy companies to make sure that children aren't growing up to be insecure about their bodies. It should be a parent's responsibility to tell their children that dolls and celebrities don't always represent them or the average person. If you actually talk to your kids and don't expect them to learn life responsibilities from toys, you'd be surprised at how they'll grow up to actually be able to separate fantasy from reality.

The dolls alone aren't a problem. What this video didn't go into is that there are many contributing factors in modern life, all contributing to poor body image, and sexualization of young girls. Making some dolls without makeup, would mean girls being surrounded by images of made up, and natural girls, helping to impress upon them the idea of choice.

Not very realistic since most people with bushy eyebrows also have long eyelashes. If you have round eyes without eyelashes framed by bushy eyebrows than some knowledge about applying make-up or eyebrow shaping could enhance whichever feature you'd like to highlight. There is nothing wrong with enhancing our appearance and this "artist" implies we shouldn't wanna do such.
