      I actually have been selling Bratz from childhood this week, and was commenting here trying to find out if I am one of those douchebags people here talk about. I sat the price of Ooh La La Cloe with her shirt, jacket, shoes, handbag and hat at 35. It sold today after 4 days on Ebay and Facebook :) I think the problem with Ebay is that they seem to push the high prices. I am very interested in collector items and rare stuff, so I would have loved it if there was very rare Bratz. Heard something about a collectors line coming out this year, but I am usually most interested in old collectibles. Actually, I had an auction on Pixiez Cloe, with ALL her clothes AND Wings AND unicorn, and it ended at 10 dollars 🤣 And I had set the shipping 2 dollars under what it cost me to send, so made 8 dollars. I am just saying that to say there are absolutely possible to find good deals :)) I found a 1st edition Cloe in a bin at a SECOND HAND shop a few weeks ago, and the lady working there laughed at me when I asked how much. She said «She dont even have legs. 3 dollars»

    • @DarlingDollz
      @DarlingDollz  3 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      That's true. I probably should have mentioned that all it really takes is one instance of someone overpaying to drive up the prices regardless of how popular the doll really is. The Bratz market especially is just so fragile and too dependent on extremes right now.

  • @isaacb1045
    @isaacb1045 3 ปีที่แล้ว +132

    i think another thing to consider w value disparity w collector dolls such as holiday barbies and highly sought after playline dolls like princess and the pauper barbies is that since holiday barbies r collector there is a huge supply of them in box whereas the movie barbies are playline meaning most of the dolls will be out of box and most likely in horrible condition since they would have been played with by small children. therefore in some cases it might actually be more difficult to find a good condition playline doll than it would be to find good condition collector dolls

    I collect American Girls and while there are some genuinely rare dolls and items that only come on the market once every couple years, I’m going to skewer my eyeballs if I see one more Samantha or Kanani listed as rare. Samantha is probably the best selling AG of all time, and unless you have a rare variant of her (signed, “white body,” Pleasant Company New In Box, Costco exclusive release, rare defects, etc etc…) she’s probably only worth around $60-$85 (if she’s in good condition). Kanani was one of the best selling modern characters, and while she’s incredibly unique in terms of her design, THERES SO MANY OF HER, and yet she’s a holy grail item for a lot of collectors. Recently the AG collecting community decided to latch onto Ivy (a 1970s historical doll) and suddenly she’s going for 200-500 dollars second hand?? She is rather hard to find, but I also wouldn’t call her rare in comparison to some of the ACTUALLY rare AG dolls, and a couple months ago you could find her for $50-$120 dollars.

I recently decided to look back into it because I regret not adding Jade's to my collection and there's a couple Sasha's that I still want and giiiirrrrrllll. I'm like "where did all the Sasha's go!?" I remember seeing one ebay listing fr the first edition set for 3,500 dollhairs. The insanity of it all, the clownery of it all.
    I'm also super weirded out by how you can still easily get Cameron, Cloe, and Yasmin's 2018 collector dolls on Amazon with prime shipping but the pages for Jade and Sasha are long gone and dead. Like, is MGAE pulling the same shit from before where Jade and Sasha were the least included in collections so now they just get made in lower quantities? It makes me sad.

    • @DarlingDollz
      @DarlingDollz  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Clownery. Truly there is no other word for it.
      I don't know if it was ever confirmed that Jade and Sasha were produced in lower quantities, but it's suspected. They went out of stock way before Cloe and Yasmin did, and I just doubt it was because they were THAT much more popular.

    I bought my first doll again as an adult a few months ago after realllly wanting the first Bratz dolli got as a child. I spent $185 Aud, came from Greece.
    I then went on a frenzy and spent $90-150 Aud on other boxed dolls and I already regret it!
    I’d actually rather them unboxed.
    And they weren’t reallly even ones I wanted, I just saw them, got excited, and bought them.

    I collect vintage Barbie dolls and for the last year many prices increased. Like I sold my #3 ponytail dolls two years ago for ~800$cad and now I always see them for 1000-1400$ I think that's because of covid with people losing their jobs and trying to sell their collections. For Bratz and monster high dolls I feel that can be normal the prices jump, because they are becoming older and older, and people love old items, because the value is also in the "old" factor. That's still annoying when people list dolls they don't know about, and think it worth a lot because it's older. eBay is flooded with vintage Barbie with horrible condition with too high prices. I always see that as "anyways nobody will buy it, who want to spend 60$ on a doll with green ears, haircut and necksplit".

    I’m from an adjacent toy collector community, Furby, and I see a lot of overlap with what you talked about here, especially once the long furby craze started and the cost of Furby Buddies skyrocketed. Also everyone is always trying to sell the most common Furbies for over hundreds of dollars but no one in their right mind is going to buy an original new in box black and white Furby for $650 (Facebook marketplace listing I saw last week lol). I’d pay $40 for that at most if I was feeling generous. but yea do some research before buying any toy for your collection especially if you’re new to collecting a specific type so you don’t end up paying unreasonable amounts!

      I collect dolls and furbies too and its so hard to find fairly priced furbies since they had a little resurgence in popularity a few years ago. But i found its a lot cheaper to buy from other fans, I've gotten furbies for $20-$30 from other collectors on tumblr. Dolls on the other hand are usually much harder to find for cheap because most collectors are looking to expand their collection and won't sell, I've even seen people with multiple NIB of the same dolls. People can do whatever they want but when collectors hoard dolls like that it incentivizes sellers to up the price even more because they're seen as rare even when they're not

    I think a major reason these dolls have inflated so badly is that nostalgia sells. Not just with toys, but nostalgia in general makes things trend and sell again decades later. One person talks about the Barbie movies, everyone remembers them, and suddenly the demand for Barbie movies dolls skyrockets because *everyone* wants to experience their childhood.

    Great video! You are so right in all the points you made. I have been very patient as a collector of Living Dead Dolls a line that has never been widely available on toy shelves like the dolls you mentioned. On Ebay they have also gone up in prices because that line, though not officially announced, is pretty much done after 20 years (though the movie characters such as Silent Hill Nurse and Elvira have kept Living Dead Dolls under Presents). I have been interested in Monster High and it is ridiculous how expensive the first run dolls are since I know they were more mass produced than LDD. I have held out and again I agree with you, patience is key to getting what you want as a collector for the price you want to pay for. with the 20th anniversary dolls that just released, i thought it would be fun to buy a bratz doll second-hand and the moment i saw the prices my heart dropped. people will deadass price nude dolls at $200 just because it has specific makeup from a line or even if it has BADLY chipped skin/paint or a missing limb. i also find it funny how much the price depends on whether the doll is wearing its corresponding outfits like... i can either buy rock angelz cloe at a ridiculous price or just find the clothes for maybe $15. at that point, resellers shouldn't even bother with their prices. luckily i found xpress it yasmin for $11, even though she's usually $25, in my eyes these dolls shouldn't even be over $15

    I think you nailed it with this video. The points you made are really something i can see as a problem in the doll community. Personally I am a collector of Winx dolls and the whole community of Winx collectors seems to be gushing over the dolls that got produced by Mattel (since they had dolls produced by Jakks Pacific and some other european doll manufacturers) and I get why that is, those dolls were one of the first Winx dolls ever made and were practically everywhere in stores and people might feel some kind of nostalgia when it comes to them, but please, the dolls that once were on clearance now are being sold for at least 600-700 dollars and just like Felicia from Bratz there is one doll that everyone seeks and is by no means rare, she is literally from on of the main lines of the whole franchise and i don't know why people suddenly decide that they can sell it for close to 2k dollars. And the worst part is that people are condoning this behaviour by buying the dolls for that amount of money. That's why i haven't bought any dolls for a long time. Because money doesn't grow on trees.

    • @DarlingDollz
      @DarlingDollz  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I've noticed it's a HUGE problem in the Winx doll community as well. I only have two Mattel dolls (Flora and Stella) in their casual outfits because that was pretty much all I could afford to get at the time, and since then they've gotten even more expensive. I’m glad that I recently brought all my old dolls home and as much as I would like to fill in my collection, I’m not paying these dumb prices. I’ll wait til bratz are either rereleased or the hype dies down.

    A good example of rare dolls are the Tomy Get along Gang dress up kids. The six dolls in wave one are easy to come by but the three dolls in wave 2 are near impossible to find loose( if you want them mint in box, you’re gonna be a while). Although they’re not worth much because they’re not in high demand

    Similliar thing happened with ''pop'' LPS, every other figurine is cheap, but these specific shapes are so expensive. Some people attach name ''pop'' to any dog or cat... there is so many of them, but all descriptions market them as rare or uniqe - and the only ''pop'' that really is rare is Superhero Cat. People are making good quality fake figurines so some of collectors can have a less expensive ''pop'' but they're still more than avarge figurine of other shape. What worse some people sell them secondhanded for the same price as original. These figurines are everywhere, but some of them are listed for more than un-opened figures in box (production of generation I'm talking about was cancelled around 2012, in it's place came gen 3). It's really frustraiting for me, since it became a thing on such a big scale. The only ''pops'' I could find for resonable prices are in bigger sets made by the seller, with like house, a few figures and accesories - which is still pretty expensive but can cost not much more than avarge ''pop''.

    Watching this again some time later and it's wild to me to hear about older collectors selling off their MH ghoullections once the reboot hit. I kept everything!

    I don't understand why Bratz got so pricey either ... even with new collectors & higher demand, most of them were basic mass produced playline and paying over 100 for 1 bratz is... above ridiculous
    The only dolls that are ACTUALLY RARE & HTF are Disney Limited Edition (title says it all) which are produced in less than 2000 numbers worldwide - NOW THATS A RARE THING!
