Vaazhai is a 2024 Indian Tamil film written, co-produced and directed by #Mariselvaraj . The children's drama film is produced by Disney + Actors , Navvi Studios and Farmer's Master Plan Productions. The film stars debutants Ponvel M., Rahul #Kalaiyarasan and #Nikhilavimal in lead roles. It also stars J. Sathish Kumar , #Divyaduraisamy , #Janaki and #Niveditarajappan. The film is loosely based on Selvaraj's life, where he works in a banana plantation while attending school. However, he hates working there.
The film was officially announced in November 2022 under the tentative title Production No. 1, being the first production of Navvi Studios. The official title was announced a few days later. Principal photography began the same month. The film was shot mostly in Thoothukudi and Tirunelveli . It was completed in mid-January 2023. The film had music composed by Santhosh Narayanan . The cinematography was handled by Theni Eeswar and editing was done by Surya Pradhan.
Banana was released in theaters worldwide on 23 August 2024. Upon release, the film received positive reviews, praising the performances of the lead actors and directed by Mari Selvaraj.
