Thank you, Lynn. I have been in a deep depression for months. My home is a disgrace. Even though I very rarely have visitors, I'm ashamed and I couldn't let them in. Deep CHAOS. I make sure my bathroom is clean, but the rest has gone to hell. I have energy, no impetus, no motivation.

I understand you completely. Some ppl in the comments must not have busy lives, health challenges, etc. Give yourself grace and take it one area at a time. Baby steps. I’ve started watching hoarders & cleaning channels (first time with Lynn here!😁) and it motivated me to clean up & clean out my twin daughters’ bedrooms and shared bath. I cleaned them when they left for college, but now that they are busy college juniors that rarely come home, I decided to rearrange their rooms. Using same bedding, some of same furniture, deleting unnecessary furniture, and deleting/rotating a few knickknacks made a huge difference. I printed new photos of my girls with their college friends and put in frames so it wouldn’t feel like I had “kicked them out.” It even inspired my husband to paint their bathroom & he has plans to paint the bedrooms too! ❤️🥰 (I like to paint but I would rather be in control of what gets moved/tossed!)

Thank you for sharing cause same. It's nice to know it's not just a me problem. I got married in 2019 then had my first child right at the beginning of the p@ndemic, and those shifts all at once really turned my life upside down. Yes, in some great ways, but having to relearn & learn during these past 3-4 years has been paralyzing. Picking myself up very slowly & gently but it's been hard.

As a mom to 5 kids, 3 which were born in the same year I understand the pain, but as honest as you are I would like to give you the same respect. When you let your home get his chaotic it puts you in a deeper funk. I used to actually get panic attacks when my house got to this stage. a doctor once told me if I only get the beds made and the dishes done it would lift me up and to make my family accountable for small things, they were young, she did say she had no answers for my hubby as hers was a lost cause. Soon my house little by little got manageable and became really neat and much less chaotic. You will get there!

My husband and I are in our late 50's and we've been working on decluttering our house since the beginning of the year. We finally got rid of a couch that we had purchased for our very first apartment together way back when we were in our mid 20's. Our adult kids are home for Christmas and helped us to get it down the steps and out to the curb for trash pickup. I can't even tell you how many loads I've taken to the various donation centers this year. And we haven't missed any of it!

Awesome job! 🤩 Around 27-ish, you talk about the mail clutter, that attracts other things, even though you have a system put in place. One tip about that: your system may be too detailed to be practical for you. :)
The thing about organizing is, the 'traditional' way to do it is very detail oriented, but not always very practical. It works great for things you don't need to access often, and long term storage. But for things you need to use frequently, you need some less detailed, and more 'easy to access' solutions. The type of clutter you have will often tell you what the problem is, and how to solve it. :)
For me, it is a basket in a closet, that I deal with once a week. Hidden, but very easy to access. And because it is so fast and easy to just put it there, and I don't have to spend time to figure out what compartment to put it in, and what to do with it - it actually lands there.
For the dirty laundry, it have never been a problem since I got some bigger laundry bins, decorative too, and right where I change my clothes. Instead of a difficult to access basket with insufficient space, and no option to sort by colour.
For folding and putting away laundry, it was actually to declutter and upgrade ('curate') my wardrobe. I took inventory, set aside my favourite items, and got some new items to form a functional capsule wardrobe. This allowed me to get rid of the worn out pieces that I hated to wear, or never wore, because I actually had something nice and functional. I now have much less clothes, but clothes that I love and that work together. So I actually have space in the closet to put the clean laundry away. :)
***Point being, instead of stressing about 'discipline' and forcing yourself to do things the traditional, ultra detailed way, try to find a way that works with your natural habits, rather than forcing yourself to do something that is not natural to you.*** :)
Dishes are still my mortal enemy though... Discipline might be the only way forward for this one. 😕

I give myself credit for just taking all my drink cups from my room to the dishwasher. And then I feel better. One task leads to maybe 2-3 more. BUT My mess is pretty darn big. Taking care of a relative with brain cancer and her 2 kids. Toys never end. Cooking never ends…deep clean is last.

Just found your channel. I can't express how much this video has meant to me. I have chronic depression and ADHD, my husband and daughter both have debilitating health conditions, so the motivation and follow-through is terrible for all of us. Our house is a disaster.
I am so over watching cleaning videos from creators who's homes are immaculate. They don't understand my reality. I loved that you shared your imperfect home with us, and could totally relate to your commentary and thinking process. This is the first time I can see a way out, see some concrete ways to tackle the mess in a way that makes sense to me. Thank you. ❤

I don't know why but I always love videos of filthy cluttered homes and apartments then the person cleaning it does an amazing job. makes me wonder how they did it without having a break down. It makes the video more real when we can see the process of how they cleaned. It helps others such as myself to do some major cleanings in certain areas I don't want.
It also helps to keep cleaning daily so you not stuck deep cleaning when you have to move out. I made that mistake and spent almost 3 days cleaning my last apartment because I let things go bad. But now I spend one day deep cleaning certain areas so I can keep with my cleaning during the week.
since I have two cats now, I have to constantly keep up with the cleaning, not only for my safety but for theirs. :)

I am good at putting everything back in its spot. I was anyway. In 2021 I lived in a nice house and it was always clean. My husband was NPD and alcoholic. June 30 was the last day I saw him and he flipped and put me in the hospital for 4 days. I didn't go home when I got out and he was found in our camper 7/5. I sold the house and moved to the town over in a different state , just 10 miles but where I'm from and my dad is. No houses for sale. Bought a 8400 square foot metal building that was a church and have been trying to fix, paint, just so much work. Some termite damage and I had to run all new waterlines and tear out walls and it's a construction zone and it's overwhelming and once I get overwhelmed I stop putting anything up. Work from home and basically here 24/7. Thanks for some motivation. 3 years is a long time to live in chaos and it's far from the end game.

Oh, Lynn, I can relate to you. I think for me I am blind when it comes to my clutter. We just had a water leak at our house and I needed to move some things. OMG, I have so much stuff and need to go through it. To be honest, I know I need to, but I don't want to. I have so many areas in my house that I just need to declutter. For me about 5 years I was going through a rough time. Feeling like I'm not appreciated for all that I do at home and at work. I am one of those people whose love language is I don't remember what it's called but I like being acknowledged. When you were talking about the note your son left you, it brought a tear to my eyes. I would love to get a note like that. Since my rough patch I have been told how important of a person I am to my family and coworkers. I'm a strong believer of do unto others so Lynn I want you to know that I appreciate you and all that you share with us. ❤

In response to your question: I'm in the middle as well. I used to be the pull something out and never put it away, but now I've been like really hard forming new routines which has been helping me remember to put this or that away, but not *everything*. But it's all about progress and not perfection and being more gentle with myself has been helping me over time slowly put more away.
Stumbled on this video by chanceand I love this video. Please don't be hard on yourself! I live alone and my apartment is probably worse at the moment than your entire family home! I’ve learned to accept that his style is different than mine.
I keep my things in hidden spaces and I am the one that keeps track of paper, and most of the inventory except my husband’s art supplies, tools, and beauty products.
I’ve created visual systems that work for him and myself.
Because I need more order, I do go around creating it on a daily basis.
We have divided housework too so that our home stays reasonably clean (not perfect).

Thank you for being open & honest & vulnerable, allowing us into your home & mind. I can definitely relate to a ton of what you're feeling & experiencing, as I'm sure a lot of us watching can. Just moved into a home after spending years with family or short term homes, I had this vision & goal to keep my new place tidy & organized. It lasted a few weeks and now I'm behind and overwhelmed. I have not completely given up but found it hard to get motivated or even have a plan of attack, let alone maintain. I'm gonna watch part 2 but already you've given me hope & inspiration. You're totally right about the guilt & shame & feeling under appreciated, and I agree, let's normalize it while also not giving into it & letting it control us. If you are here, this is your sign to make the change because you will feel better on the other side. Stop procrastinating. Take control. You will thank you later 💕

I was a single mother of 3 for many years. I had NO time to clean. Instead, whenever I walked from one room to another I would look for something that needed to go into that room and made sure I took it with me. Cleaning the toilet/shower quickly every time you use it helps to keep it clean. Also, to keep dishes clean I would make the dish water right before I served dinner and my kids knew to clean their plates and put their dishes right into the scalding hot dish water. By the time we were all done eating dinner and the table was cleared the dishes had soaked and were SO easy to clean. Cut my dishwashing time in half! Also, when using the hair brush or scizzors, put them back immediately in the same place! I know it saves time just to put them down where you are, but nothing is more frustrating than to need your hairbrush or scizzors and can't find them or have to walk into another room to get them. I learned early on that there is a place for everything and everything should be in its place. Trust me -- take that extra moment to put things away as you use them and your life will be soooo much easier! Instill this in your children and encourage them to do the same. They'll thank you for it later! Another tip is to not try to do so much at one time. Start with one small task per day or per week; one room or one drawer or one closet, one box, or one bag, try to do just one thing each day to organize or minimize. Eventually you will have your clean home. Thank you for your inspiration and keep up the good work!!!

I’m so grateful to you for sharing this video and not being afraid of judgement. I’m disabled and cleaning is really difficult for me because I get worn out very quickly. I’m also seriously lacking in motivation, so knowing that I’m not alone in my mess really helps me feel better. Seeing you tackle your cleaning routine makes it feel much more manageable to get it all done, even though I can’t do it all at once. THANK YOU SO MUCH for your honesty and openness! I really appreciate you!

Hey Lynn I love your videos I just wish I could do what you do every time I try I start to cry and feel like a failure in everything I grew up being told that over and over so every time I start something I get discouraged again so I give up trying but you make me feel better to know I am not alone in this I hope you have a blessed day ☺️

While trying to conceive we experienced a miscarriage and chemical pregnancy before falling pregnant now. I was a mess for the first three months of this pregnancy also. So the last year or more has been rough. I am 5 and a half months pregnant now and the house has got to be taken care of before this much desired baby girl gets here. I'm taking it back a little bit more very day. I wish I could just go for hours on end right now but my back and belly won't take it so I have to go slow and steady. But I feel like it will be done in time for baby. I'm so relived to be motivated again and not so overwhelmed. I told me husband I couldn't stand the house anymore but I wasn't sure where to start. Eventually I just started some where and kept going. Your right, starting with some trash bags is always a great way to start.

I have to put everything back where it came from, everything has a correct home, I'm an empty nester now so everywhere is tickety boo, sometimes the spare bedroom gets cluttered, but then I get stuck in and declutter, I have a box on the go that my donates go straight into. Love from Manchester England. 💐

I am one that love everything to have a place. It is much easier for me to put something back in place that only take a few seconds. For me, I fill that it takes too much time when letting clutter build up and then tackle it. I wouldn't say there is a right or wrong way. It is all about what gives you peace. I am not at peace looking at disfunctional. You definitely motivate the person that have a lot to get done

I use to let things go and get overwhelmed also, I finally decided to change my habits and I just readjusted my habits, for instance if we finished dinner, I would immediately got up and cleaned up, put food away, etc. I also enlisted the kids with things they had to help with on a daily basis, if they didn’t , then they would be grounded from a sleepover or something of that nature. This also helped train my kids to not be messy. Anything I did I would immediately clean it up, I eventually had a ritual at night to have the house in at least a semi clean state before I went to bed. It’s all a state of mind and you just have to train yourself lol!!

Thank you for what you said and for being transparent and honest. There are so many videos where it’s something thrown here and there and the state of mind of a person is not thought about let alone the house is not really dirty. I take care of my Mom who is sick and elderly and my energy is just not there most of the time. I however do not like living in a filthy cluttered mess. I am thankful for the people who really know that it’s a struggle. God bless
