Many people thought Boxcar Willie was a real hobo, but he
was actually a B-29 pilot in the Korean War.
He tried out singing Country Music as a hobby, and the rest

I saw this man many ties at a small country night club in Athens, Georgia. I even had the opportunity to meet this fine gentleman. What a tremendous talent who never got the credit or accolades he truly deserved. He was a crowd favorite from the second he stepped on stage. RIP
'Ol Boxcar was a real gentleman, he was human, made mistakes and sought forgiveness..... Now, thats a man... If you were lucky enough to meet him in person he tried to treat you as a friend, spoke easy and slow.. I knew him and miss him.........
i would not take a hundred of todays so called country music performers for any one of these great and i do mean great true country stars these are and always will be the true meaning of country music todays people are a bunch of phonies
I saw him in Croydon a few years ago , and like Charlie Pride , he was good enough to stay behind after the show to meet his fans ....................... A wonderful showman who will be missed by many , and is a great loss to the country scene ....................RIP Boxcar
I had the pleasure of seeing Boxcar Willie perform live maybe a hundred times when I was young. And each time he was great. Dear God I miss my youth.
Was privileged to see the Box Car in live concert 3 times in Calgary. What an entertainer! !

The first time I saw and met Willie was at the Imperial Lounge in Tampa Fl. Talk about a venue. Hell Dusty Rhodes met and married there. Willie was one of a kind.

Way back in the late 70' s I walked in the back door of my favorite haunt in Tampa Fl. " The Imperial Room" Also the favorite of Dusty Rhodes, Met his wife there, the Briscoes and Andre. But, I degress.. There was this man in bib coveralls performing. He was outstanding. His name was Boxcar Willie.

I got to meet him after his LAST concert in Branson, I was like maybe 6 or 7 years old, and yes, he did his famous whistle for me and shook my hand. God i miss him alot :(

The greatest railway song musician on the planet other than Railcar Jimmy. Just one of the best in his class. He even had a show in a small place called Branson Missouri with a museum and giftshop complete with aircraft memorabilia and train memorabilia and lots of other things like a live show will Bill Anderson at 11pm every friday night. Worked hard for what he had did this boy from Texas and air force navigator.

@HarryB0946 if it's the guy with the cowboy hat on that you're referring to, his name is Bobby Bare and if it's the guy with the blue on playing guitar, his name was Billy Walker and he died in 2006 in a tour bus accident.

i hope BoxCar died pain-free in the comfort of his home. Not sure what would have taken him at such a young age. He was doing so well in Branson just not long ago. i remember in 1993 he had such great shows with the ventriliquiest, the harmonica guy, the lady singer who imitated other people and he also had a guy that acted drunk and they would do a skit. Box Car also imitated other country stars like Johnny Cash and ummmm, uhhhh, gosh , i can't remember some of the other ones he imitated but ummm, oh yea, Whispering Bill Anderson was another, it was such a great show and he had an intermission where we could all go pee and we could get a picture with him (which we did). and so , yea, he deserves all the accolatedes he gets cause he is a legend

No this wasn't that. Box was in bad health, he had lost that "spark" that made him special! If you notice what he said there at the end of his song, Box didn't live very long after this if I'm correct and I think I am!
