Thanks a lot! I really liked this exploits used in this run, but I so think that the editing has room for improvement. Hopefully the videos after this have improved 😁
@@NGPlusVideos I mean I personally didn't notice any editing issues that stood out. But yeah the tech was great. I feel like a lot people doing these type of videos would have given up. Especially by the time you were doing weird save file mega-jumps. I've never seen someone so dedicated to the challenge. Good stuff.
About the part when you said is "forced flying" instead of "hovering" i think it's very understandable since hovering in Rayman world means you are going down to the ground and in that part, you are going up and that means it cannot be count as hovering
Well, he did say WITHOUT HOVERING, not without flying. Should have done the same for the Spyro games - gliding not allowed, flying okay. But eh, not my challenge.
Hot damn, that is beautiful! I estimated it to be 4 (or 6 including the forced flight). I genuinely thought it was impossible to get over that simple lava pit without hovering.

Going into this I'm suspecting the biggest hurdle to be the Precipice, as the distance needed to cross during the long fall is quite wide. So bare minimum, I suspect this spot will be the hardest to bypass, so let's see how that pans out by the time we get there (IF the no hover rule can be maintained beforehand). Post watching: And of course the other one was the hot air balloon. But props to the speed discord and their tricks. Great stuff.
Yeah, the Iron Mountain still annoys me, as I bet a TAS bot could have made that swim in air. So it probably could have been 1 hover. Maybe one day someone else will give it a try. Thank you for watching 😁
Friggin' bravo. I predicted 13 with the waterfall, the Precipice, the Cave of Bad Dreams, and the Sanctuary of Stone and Fire. Far exceeded my expectations and it's awesome to see one of my favorite games ever get such a technical dive thanks to a challenge that seems absurd on its face
Having seen some of your other videos and the sheer length of effort and stubborness you put into these, I guessed two hovers and an extremely broken game. Surprisingly, you didn't break the game as hard as I thought, and had a bit of an emotional rollercoaster when you added the third then absolutely ruined the balloon level into letting you do two. You're a bloody legend.

the reason the player is moving faster diagonally is due to the programmers not normalizing the output of xAxis plus yAxis input from the controller. had that same problem with several character controllers I worked with in the past
I really like the idea of employing the speedrunning community for the challenge and they have to come up with some new ideas to break the game that they would never even explore.
I love your content! I first saw your Spyro 3 glideless video and was impressed with the exhaustive dedication to not only trying to get all collectibles, but explaining all the techniques we know of that are available for completing some of those otherwise impossible obstacles. Keep it up!
1. This video is absolutely mental, hovering is such a core part of Rayman's movement, and to do so much of the game without it is astounding 2. Has anyone told you that you sometimes sound like James May??? I actually stopped what I was doing to comment this it totally took me by surprise
Used to love this game. Played all through Rayman 2 the great escape on ps1, then saw Rayman Revolution on ps2 and got that immediately, and wasn't even disappointed to discover that it's the exact same game lol
1a : to hang fluttering in the air or on the wing A hawk hovered overhead. b : to remain suspended over a place or object a hummingbird hovering over the flowers Helicopters hovered above us. 2a : to move to and fro near a place : fluctuate around a given point Unemployment hovered around 10 percent.
yeah the PS2 version in high res on emulator looks pretty good. i think you can run the PC version in high res as well but you need the ps2 version for some of the glitches and having save states can be convenient as well.
With the skull cave bit, I played this game the other day and managed to get to the tomb of the ancients using the hot air balloon in the overworld as the Teensies told me to use it. I didn't even realise the skull cave lava bit was the way to get there. I guess the game valued that stage of the story over the intended level so it sent me there instead. I was super confused because I distinctly remembered that part of the game and needing to fly over the lava to reach it when I was a kid lol
I wish I would have commented my guess, I would have gotten it right! That was a great video. The purple lum/rebound trick was seriously impressive to see pulled off.
Now I'm wondering if it's different on Rayman 2 PC. Though I suppose since Revolution has more levels it's probably going to be the ultimate challenge when it comes to this kind of thing. Still I'm sure those mushrooms sticking out the wall in the cave of bad dreams are exclusive to Revolution.
I randomly guessed 13 and then changed to 3 after the tornado shenagians. I would have been right, but you just had to shave that one hover off. Good job!
