Want to delete them my self on my 318d, but i doubt the tape would last, i am from Latvia, we have -20 in winter, +30 in summer, that tape would peel off within a season :/ and actual non-roof rail moldings are like 300 euros a piece :O and afaik, electrical tape is really the only way you can seal the holes. Maybe... just maybe, you could ''weld'' small plastic pieces on the underside of the holes, seal the tiny gaps with sealant left behind, prime and recolor the rails?
Electrical tape is a really bad idea as the glue will melt in the sun and it just warps and peels off. Better use proper filler and sand it down, then paint it all. That is if you for some reason want to remove them and make it less practical. I ended up here as I just want to refurbish mine as they have faded a fair bit in the sun.
@@RockstoneDay How much more does a can of filler cost than 2 rolls of electrical tape? € 5 maybe? It should be called " The Wrong Way" You can do a lot of things cheaply, but if you do not understand even the basics, mot are going to be bad. You sound like you do not much care for constructive feedback.
I love constructive feedback, but here in Iceland a can of automotive filler is 40 euro plus, then you need sand paper, primer and paint. I know how to do it "your way" Ive taken courses in automotive bodywork and painting. This was cheap and quick, worked for me and has worked for others. The best way is just to buy the facelift trim that has the option to be closed. This is my cheap way, you can make your own video with your cheap way ;)
Hej thank you so much ! I just did it and it looked much harder than it was! Would not have made it without your video! Much love from Sweden
Glad it helped!
Instead of removing the whole headliner, you removed one at a time. Thats really a good idea 👍
can't imagine it being too many BMWs in Iceland :D Must be very unique to own one over there
You would be surprised, bunch of BMWs here ;)

Looks stunning after removing those rails. But better if some non functional rails added for just look.

Yeah possibly if you want to spend some time on this
hey thank you, this was very helpful did it myself today! :)
Thanks for the good Video, looks great! Want to do this on my e61. Which size are the screws you take after deleting the rail?
Not sure of the size, you might be able to look it up on realoem.com
How does the tape go in the sun? Would you it lose its stickiness
Not sure, since the sun is not very strong in Iceland
What kind of shop are you doing the work at in this video? A shared space?
I work as a mechanic, on saturdays we can work on our own cars at the shop :)
How is wind noise compared to before? Thanks
Never noticed any windnoise before nor after👀
i believe the noise might be from the roof rack which he doesn’t have, i have those on my e91 wagon and i hear the little noise
Actually, I quite like my roof rails.
Think I'll leave them on.
Hi . How long does the replacement take ?
Dont remember exactly, but some hours. Did it on a Saturday.
Thanks for this
