Pepa’s Top Singing Voices | My Personal Ranking | Encanto

  • I decided to divide the verse into two parts: each part is a new language. That's why in my comments I use words like "the first part of the verse" and "the second part of the verse". The first part is from beginning until the line "I’m sorry, mi vida, go on!", everything else is second part.
Also in this video there is no Chinese Mandarin version, because it became available when the video was at post-installation stage.
    My comment on this version🇨🇳:
She seems very unconfident to me. It's like she is afraid to show the possibilities of her voice. I feel that she is capable of more. Sometimes she sounds very soft but, unfortunately, I wouldn't be able to give her a high place.
    Now I have TikTok!✨🎶 (don’t know why😂)

It's seems you like certain languages and not objective about good talent as I can see from the French versions on all your. If I judge based on language then French would be last. Cause it sound annoying to me .bit misleading since people come thinking your judgment based on talent anyway good effort.

Quite shocked to see nearly all Asian languages so low one after the other tbh. But even if I ignore that, sadly I don't agree with much, even your top 3 is lesser good for me than some of your bottom positions. I only agree with Italian dubbing legend Renata Fusco at a high position, she's truly amazing.
My compliments to your editing though, nice that you included pictures of the singers, it is interesting to see the faces of the voices behind Pepa. By the way, Hindi voice is Keka with an A at the end, not S. ;)

  • @tedtolliver572

The reason why Cantonese Pepa raises her voice is because Cantonese is an extremely tonal language. When she sings "耀眼 **幸福** 好天氣", she has to jerk from 幸 (hang6, low tone) to 福 (fuk1, high tone) immediately (corresponding to "there wasn't *a cloud* in the sky" in English). However, since 福 already rests on a high note, the singer has to raise her voice even higher to prevent it from sounding like 覆 (fuk1). It isn't at fault of the singer here, just something caused by translation.

    • @victorporto8719

      Tones don't exist while singing.

    • @tedtolliver572
      @tedtolliver572 2 ปีที่แล้ว +39

@@victorporto8719 Not true. As someone who studies Chinese literature and speaks a tonal language, I can assure you that tones exist while singing and are actually very important when dubbing songs in Cantonese. This feature is even shown in older Chinese literature, where poets would follow extremely rigid tone schemes known as 平仄 while writing 詞(poetic compositions meant to be sung) and choose specific words that match specific tones, as specified by the cipai詞牌(the name of the melody, famous examples include 虞美人 and 蝶戀花). For example, when Su Dongpo wrote "Shui Diao Ge Tou 水調歌頭", he followed :
(I recommend you read up about ci as it is very interesting! Though perhaps you already know a lot about this kind of stuff.)
If tones didn't exist while singing, the lyricists would not have to follow the rules of 平上去入 and go such great lengths to adhere to the pingzhi.
Even when writing lyrics to songs, Chinese lyricists have to phrase words so that the tones and the melody do not clash and sound unnatural when singing, which is why the Cantonese dub of Encanto differs in meaning from the English version. I would be happy to explain more about pingzhi and the relationship between tones and singing if you wish.

I'm happy with German being so far up. With how bad German translations of Disney songs have been, the new team behind translating Encanto songs did a great job this time! I know you are not rating the translation but the performance and the singing, but I also think that for the majority of characters, Disney Germany found good voices that match the original English one to a t!

My Opinions on the versions :)
    35. Thai - I’m not trying to be rude, but the first part sounds a lot like gibberish. No offense to Thai people! I actually think it’s cool and funny :)
    34. Korean - I honestly think this sounds great! (Keep in mind I know absolutely none of these languages) I feel as if the actor sounds pretty close to Pepa’s actual voice. On the other hand, I think Felix sounds pretty good too!
    33. Indonesian - not too shabby! I think it sounds pretty nice. I think Pepa’s voice is pretty nice. Felix’s is good too.
    32. Malay - to be honestly I don’t know this language, but it sounds nice, again, Pepa’s voice is good. Felix’s has nice vocals, but not too close to the original. But I still think it sounds good!
    31. Hindi - now this person’s got talent! This is really nice to my ears. (I won’t be writing as much in here just to save space)
    30. Japanese - this sounds awesome, I didn’t think Japanese would sound this good!
    29. Cantonese (haven’t heard of this language either) - this sounds awesome! Pepa and Felix’s voice sounds great!
    28. Tamil/Telugu - this honestly sounds pretty awesome. I know I’m saying that for a lot of these, but I really like them all!
    27. Turkish - 🦃 🇹🇷 lol, anyway, this actually sounds great!
    26. Hungarian - As in the video, I think it’s fun! I like it!
    25. Icelandic - This sounds unexpected.. I know I haven’t heard of this, but it sounds great!
    24. Brazilian Portuguese - I think this voice needs more strength in it, but it’s really good!
    23. Bulgarian - awesome job to this person! I like this one a lot!
    22. Serbian - nice! I think this is a pretty good voice for Pepa!
    21. Romanian - awesome, the sound quality wasn’t too good for this, but I can tell, if I could hear it normally, I would like it!
    20. Taiwanese Mandarin - I think this has gotta be one of my favorite ones, I love this one!
    19. Finnish - This voice sounds aggressive, I love it! This definitely suits Pepa!
    18. Kazakh - this sounds beautiful! I love it!
    17. Polish - I know I love Dolores’s part in this, but Pepa’s is just as good! This is great!
    16. Dutch - I think this person’s voice is strong and aggressive, great fit for Pepa!
    15. European Portuguese - I like this version a lot! :)
    14. Norwegian - this is nice! Good for my ears. :)
    13. Czech - Good strong, confident voice! I love it.
    12. Russian - I always liked Russian, it sounds absolutely awesome in this version!
    11. Croatian - softer voice than usual, but I love this version! Props to this person :)
    10. Greek - pretty nice to hear 👍
    9. German - love this version a lot, idk why, but it’s great.
    8. English - one of the best! I don’t think I need to explain this.
    and
    8. Latin Spanish - I have played this a ton, I love it!
    7. Georgian - this actor has a lot of confidence in her voice, it’s great! I like it!
    6. Ukrainian - Awesome! I like it a lot!
    5. Swedish - it just sounds so pleasing to me, I like it a lot!
    4. Italian - I absolutely love this version! It’s awesome!
    3. French - ok, same as the last ones ITS AWESOME
    2. Danish - YES YES GIVE ME MORE AWESOME
    1. Flemish - this actor has a ton of confidence and strength in her voice, I love it!

Nearly all Asian languages are at the bottom and some are just very high in the top, and I saw this trend for other rankings too not just this so IDK if it's just randomly or it seems to me that you like (or maybe used to) certain languages more than others, rather than judging the voice themselves...so yeah I don't really agree much with this even

    • @amandaguenascimento
      @amandaguenascimento 2 ปีที่แล้ว +17

I think it's a difference in expectations... It seems like a character like Pepa would sound different in the minds of Asians as it would for westerners. That doesn't mean it's not as good! Honestly, the dubs only really matter for the people they are being produced for. She's Russian and she likes a lot of languages that sound like hers, whereas I like the softer ones since they remind me of romance languages like my own.

    • @tedtolliver572
      @tedtolliver572 2 ปีที่แล้ว +15

When you look at their rankings in the past, they tend to have European languages in high positions. Here are the Top 5 for their videos:
Dolores: Italian, Greek, Malay*, Russian, English.
Camilo: French, Croatian, LatAm Spanish, Polish, Russian.
Chang'e (Over The Moon): Eu Spanish, Norweigan, German, Russian, Italian.
Moana: Italian, Czech, Flemish, Russian, LatAm Spanish.
Elsa (Frozen II): Italian, Danish, Finnish, English, Russian.
Out of 25 picks, 24 are European or have European roots (e.g. LatAm Spanish) and only 1 is Asian (Malay). Even for the Malay one, they write,"I didn't expect this from a Malay". Also Russian is in all of the Top 5's, which isn't surprising since we all tend to gravitate towards our native languages, but still.

Lately there's a new craze on the net for Encanto. Now they even have personal ranking for different versions of the movie songs. LOL What the hell?! Anyway, I can say I've heard almost every version there is out of curiosity and I can say each one doesn't give off the same energy or impression. I do have my only favorite though. By the way, number 32, I believe the reason you feel she sounded nasal is because of the sound of certain words in her language specifically the '-ng' sound. Oddly for me, I feel the '-ng' sound or her 'nasal' sound as you put it actually makes her sounds very sexy and I love sexy voice.

    • @iskandarishak8998
      @iskandarishak8998 2 ปีที่แล้ว

You're absolutely right! I think another reason for why she sounds 'nasal' a lot here is because the translation of the song. In We Don't Talk About Bruno, there are a lot of '-ng' words in Pepa's and Dolores's part.
In Surface Pressure, there are also a lot of '-ng' words too!
Malay version tends to sound poetic because the word at the end of each sentence rhymed with before/after that sentence.

Thank you for having Swedish among Top 5! She really has a beautiful voice cx I do feel like the JP should be a bit higher, but otherwise, I agree with the list.

I don't really like my native Pepa's singing (brazilian portuguese). I think her voice is PERFECT as Pepa, but when she sings she just lacks the emotion many others have at Pepa's part in the music. It sounds plain to me, but only one bad opinion of one only person, I'm not saying the VA is bad or anything. But Felix's is really one of my favorites Felix, his voice is really fitting, bright, clean and I love the way he sings or talks throughout

As a mexican I like spanish the most not because I know what they are saying but it really fits the language spoken in the actual country they are in
