Rallying is more dangerous than most people realise. I’ve been a spectator, a marshal and even a driver in some local ones. Your life depends on the marshal and mechanics doing their jobs right, you not making grave errors and the fans not doing anything too stupid. And, still, a random bird or cow, a rock slide or even just a rock could send you off a cliff or impaled on a tree. The reason you don’t see people dying all the time (anymore) is because of consistently good organising, wrenching and driving and fans limiting themselves to not doing incredibly stupid things, just mildly stupid. End of the day, there’s little room left for ego when you have all these things to worry about.
Motorcycle rally is just the most dangerous and hard to do, because you had to navigate by yourself while riding at same speed as the cars or even faster on a contraption of fuel tanks as big as car fuel tanks and an insanely powerful engine to its size and without any protection besides helmet and the clothing.
In most sports, the course-side security is there to make sure the fans don't interfere with the game. In WRC, the yellow vests you see in that video are there because WRC fans are mad enough to stand in the middle of the track if you let them.

Well the obvious difference is, that if a crowd member messes up a tennis player; the results could be fatal but if they mess up a rally driver; worst is they could miss their shot.
Holy hell that’s some amazing footage watching that from the hood. Must be one of the coolest feelings in the world to be in the drivers shoes seeing people so enthusiastically cheering, even in the middle of the night in complete darkness.
I am sure the drivers would prefer the spectators would stay further away from the road though. They must feel quite anxious at being so close to chopping off people's hands. I know I would be. Also you can see in some of the onboards that the drivers are forced to stay quite far away from the guard rail, because of the fans of course.
Yup. I never understood why in Tennis there must be dead silence. Also exactly the opposite happens at rally and it is quite dangerous some times with the fans
If the people with thoose flares would stand on each side off the road with a few meters apart they could make it look like the drivers would go through some checkpoints
Not sure why there's a comparison between Rallying and Tennis, completely different sports. I'm sure tennis players could play with noise (if it was consistent) but prefer it without noise, just like I'm sure these drivers would prefer not having fireworks and crowd leaning over barriers so they can concentrate better. I think a better comparison would be with F1 where no such thing would be allowed even though they're more similar sports.
