I held on to that “we’ll have you on the road to that max pay if you stick with us for a decade in a shitty position” for about a year, after that realized that’s little sense in settling for that when every time I’ve transferred companies it’s come with a Huge pay raise, definitely wouldn’t be making the three hundred thousand a year if I was still hoping the first company I started working for would do it all for me lol I don’t even work anymore, I can raise my kids without having to worry about it. Take your opportunities where you can get them, y’all. It’s always so much better.

I worked for UPS from 98’ to 04’ in the warehouse (San Bruno Hub). I wanted to become a driver and I was told I had to wait a couple more years which I thought was rediculous. I ended up leaving UPS, getting my CDL and went to work for Recology (Garbage Dept) 👍🏽 Both are TEAMSTERS so I didn’t lose anything with that.

4 years ain't shit. My apprenticeship was 5 years and I had to work as a helper for 3 years before I could even apply for the apprenticeship. It was worth it. I now work 3 days a week and make over $100k/year. I could make a lot more if I wanted to work more, but I'd rather have my time, freedom and family over more money. My wife works part time and makes $40k/year. In our area the average income is like $37k/year. We are good.

I'm sure it's changed since I was at the hub in Minnesota in 2012, but dayum... 6 years in the warehouse? I still remember what our hourly rate was as an unloader, and the lack of hours that came with it as a new hire (even during the busy season) and let's just say it's a GOOD THING that I didn't have any kids, or commitments of any kind (other than a car payment). We were paid $9.23/hr, and during peak season, we got ~3 hours per night. The only way we were offered more was if someone else's trailer had a ton of irregulars (packages that were too large, awkward, or heavy to be handled by one person by themselves) and that was usually only offered to a few people per night.

  • @anon556

It’s not a long time but it is a long time do make driver.
I could never do it, too old to be making no money for 6 years. My family would pay the price.

6 years?? I been at UPS 14 years now and still can’t go full time. I’m only a 6 hour employee. It took me 7 years to get a 6 hour job from a 3 hour one.

@@D.c5- it all depends on seniority and jobs that become available to bid on at your location. Still make decent $$ in the warehouse..

That's ridiculous... Go get a class A and haul fuel. You'll make $110-140K a year. I've been doing it for 17 years.

My son’s uncle Rob is a bum. He drove for UPS hurt his back and blamed it on the company sued for a bunch of money, and said his back was hurt overtime, got a bunch of cash, and now he sits in front of a computer and lives his wife.
