Official music video for Daniel Romano's single "I Won't Let It" from the 2011 album, SLEEP BENEATH THE WILLOW. Video directed by Terrance Odette. www.DanielRomanoMusic.com
I went to a sold-out Loretta Lynn concert a couple years ago. The show finished really early (she's like 100, guessing she turns in pretty early lol) so then we walked down the street to a bar - where Daniel Romano just happened to be starting a set. Best. Country night. Ever.
Gram is smilin' from above-----but-40- years ago there would be no Daniel Romano... "son, I 'm picturin' your new name as Skip Drawdy & The Duotones", we can't have that Romano stuff here at the Opry.
What a shame he plays nowadays a completely different style of music. This record I recently heard for the first time and it really blew me away. This is soooo good!!!!! For me a mix of Gram Parsons , Roy Orbison , Ryan Adams in real and honest country style. The production is fabulous ( 60's )and the twists in the melody and songs are genius , not to mention the beautiful back ground vocals and his lyrics. Heartbreaking , beautiful !!!
He left his unique country sound for doing new stuff that doesn't reach your soul . And he has underestimated the quality and power of his band the Trilliums while doing new things without them. What's good is good. Why must musicians often think that they have go to a next level when they are doing great?
Gretschki 1 it wasnt really that unique, theres alot of similarities to other country singers before him. His new stuff does reach your soul, listen to his Human Touch album, its more emotive than this. You obviously dont know alot about him, he toured with the trilliums after various members left, he still performs which two/three of the members on his newer stuff. If it aint your cup of tea thats fine, but its amazing musicianship none the less. If you listen to his albums there is a natural transgression in his sound. (Also he started off doing punk music when he was younger, so be greatfull for getting this!!)
Well , I'm greatfull for his album "Sleep beneath the Willow" and I know that he still plays with his pedalsteel player but I regret he left the concept and sound from his time around 2011 . And you are mistaken : that was a unique sound because he combined several different elements and created an amazing sound that nowadays is still special. Listen to the backing vocal work and the way this record is recorded in combination with his remarkable talent of writing songs in that style ; those are not just three chords songs like in many other country bands which sound often the same . And then listen to his songs nowadays : avantgarde poppy rubbish and making on purpose strange voice sounds You know that most musicians make in their life just two really good records and than it's often done ; well , this is done. But I guess we will never agree on this ; you can be a fan of somebody but that don't mean that everything he does is bulls eye. And than of course music taste will always be different by different people.
Nice but u got to haul it more out of that big ole juicy spot down deep in yer soul there mister. You got to sing it like yer mama ran out when u was 6 and u had to eat cat food to stay alive bro. You got to wail it more - like Patsy did. Like yer heart got ripped to sheds while you got laughed at. Sing boy, sing! Thats why yer standing there ain't it?
