I believe that's Julianna Riolino accompanying Daniel. She's stepped forward a bit on the 2021 album by Daniel Romano's Outfit, entitled Cobra Poems. Great stuff! Julianna sings lead on the haunting song, The Motions.
Funny that he would criticize Springsteen for having dense arrangements. Id say the same about Romano's recordings. Overproduced. These songs sound best with just voice and guitar.
Jesus what an uncomfortable interview. So much weird tension and made even worse by not ever really acknowledging the musician accompanying him. At least introduce her sheesh. Love his music though.

@@leekovalskyj9218 Nope, it's Kristen (Kay) Berkel. She and her sister Jenny were in The Trilliums, Daniel's band when he was doing country stuff, around 2014/2015. Kay continued to play and tour with him as he recorded Mosey, Modern Pressure and Finally Free, and she was also a part of Ancient Shapes live. After she left, Dave Nardi joined on guitar and The Jazz Police became The Outfit. They were a four-piece for a while before Julianna joined.
I totally agree. So weird that no one said her name and it was like she wasn’t there. Found that part very uncomfortable. And the interviewer ingratiating. I think Kay added heaps here and accompanied in a very nuanced way. Her awkwardness may have been alleviated by her presence being acknowledged. Can’t help but feel gender at play here? Aside from that, i absolutely love these live acoustic versions and have watched them over and over. He is an incredible songwriter and has a purity to his work that isn’t so common these days. Not sure about his comment about van though. Wtf? He should actually listen to some. A common one, astral weeks. Also not every song needs a narrative arc to be itself and not every artist needs to go for the same thing. Love Daniel though, and his young, undeveloped thoughts are still interesting nonetheless. How’s me, full of my own opinions today!
@@8vesper504 Yeah weird such a weird comment regarding Van. Don't really listen to Dan since writing that last comment, his music is poshised but he's grifting too much style off other scenes and seems disingenuous
Wow. There appears to be a bit of ignorance and disrespect there. If he’s interested in “songs” with a narrative arc, then Springsteen is your man buddy. Seeger sessions was an aside, some fun he had playing those older songs. And get some arrangements? Really, surely he’s not that dumb? Check out the first 3 albums.
Daniel seems to be going through the Chameleon phase. He's been influenced by other singers, (Bob Dylan, George Jones, ) but that probably won't last much longer. Looks like he's in a sort of mainstream country-rock style...
One of the generation's greatest songwriters here.
Probably the coolest man alive.
Daniel is my new musical hero 💙

I’ve never wanted to like someone this much
His voice sounds like George Harrison and Bob Dylan mixed to me. Sounds good.
A bit like Arlo Guthrie at times.
Yeah I agree and also his country stuff is reminiscent of Gram Parsons
"Time can be over come" little nod to the Constantines
Someone send Daniel a copy of Van's Astral Weeks, STAT!

That’s not Julianna.
This is far pre Julianna and Outfit.

cannot agree more. I dont understand why this happens so often.
Jesus what a brilliant musician and horrendous interviewer
yup. He's outrageouslyyyyyy talented and I love 99.9% of his tunes. but he can't help but being up his own ass.
What kind of fucked up person did not like this video?

I don't like "the Boss" either and now know why. Well, i knew it already but now it is official

He doesn't need the female singer at all, it's so unnecessary almost distracting.
break out of that Bob Dylan phrasing and imitation and come into your own man
I think he just did!
