    mechanic here, this is a great thing to do as long as the tires arent rotational and the thread on the tires that goes to the rear is still good. Ideally the best tires should be on the rear to avoid loosing the rear, even on FWD cars

    • @AutoAutopsy
      @AutoAutopsy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Logic tells me that the better tires should go on the front, since they’re responsible for powering the car and cornering/steering. But then again, I’m not a trained mechanic lol

    • @tobbsnobb1366

      @@AutoAutopsy I also ran my best tires in the front right up until some icy conditions made the rear slip in a straight line on my 1.8t Vector, not fun

      @@tobbsnobb1366 interesting perspective, sure that was fun lol. I almost smacked my 2007 aero today, it was pouring and this lady was just sitting in the middle of the street, literally. Mini heart attack for sure. Had to slide past her half on the shoulder lol.

      I guess that it makes sense considering that it’s easier to manage to control when most of the time a slower car can be easier to regain control

  • @bluezedd
    @bluezedd 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Just to confirm, did you check if your tyres are directional? If so you either need to unmount the rear ones to cross them over on the front.

    • @AutoAutopsy
      @AutoAutopsy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They aren’t directional. I thought I had mentioned that in the video, but I guess not. My apologies!

    You might want to mention that if you have directional tires (or wheels), you can't rotate driver's to passenger's side.

    • @brookeking8559
      @brookeking8559 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Indeed. When I was a teen I was also taught that one should keep radials on the same side of the car, that the move from rear to opposite side in front was only for bias ply tires. Maybe that’s no longer true.

    • @AutoAutopsy
      @AutoAutopsy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Very true; forgot to mention that in the video. Mine aren’t directional thankfully

  • @MassiveTrackHunter

    ....and in a Saab, the front tires are also taking a he11 of a boost-shredding!! XD

  • @browserrr1
    @browserrr1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The guys writing the best tires go at the rear are correct. This way you avoid that it unexpectedly breaks out because of less grip back than at front. Too much camber on a 9-5 means worn bushings and it can happen pretty quickly. Maintenance wise the whole rear suspension construction is just crap.

    And if you want to drive safe in bad road conditions. You ALWAYS!! ALWAYS!! Put the best tire's in the rear no matter if the car is 4WD or 2WD. To rotate the tire's like this i just unnecessary if you don't live in the dessert. If the front one's are worn down, buy new ones and put the new ones in the rear and the old rear ones in the front. Please avoid hydroplaning in the rain and snow, it will make your life so much easier :P
    Love the vid's, keep it up! :D

    • @AutoAutopsy
      @AutoAutopsy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      How is it unnecessary? I’d put the best tires up front, especially on a car like this. They’re the ones doing all of the work!,

      @@AutoAutopsy Amen brother! I understand this for a rear wheel drive car to help mitigate oversteer but with a front drive I'm with you. The good front tread will move the water (mostly) out of the way for the rears.

    • @mringtown

      @@AutoAutopsy It is not necessary because you don't have to change all 4 tires at once. For safety reasons you want the best tires to be in the back for the car to straighten up when loosing grip. Especially on snow or when aquaplaning.

      My good tyres are on the back of my fwd VW Caddy but I need more grip up front. I've had my van sideways doing 80km on a mountain. The back just simply slides at that speed in the rain. The front pulls me out of it. I'd rather have good tyres up front so I can floor it out.
