good idea w the jack i usually push the arm down with my foot and shove the springs in by hand. always a fun job but surprisingly easy like most saab work.
About to change shock absorbers and springs on mine. Was worried about how to deal with the springs in a proper and safe way without buying the presstool Haynes suggest. Didn't look too hard without it. Thanks for sharing! :)
Definitely, don't go to the Haynes manual for this job! The Haynes method offered wasn't possible for me, so I figured out this was the best route. Did you lower your suspension? I've gone back to stock ride height on account of my Bilstein B6 shocks installation. These were essentially hydraulically bottomed out with H&R's lowering springs. I now prefer my stock ride height as my 9-3 is also my winter driver.
Great video! Thank you for sharing! Please tell me how is the yellow rubber called or if you have a part number or a link where I can get one. Please reply! Thank you!
My car is lowered - I'd like to get it back to original. I have the original springs but should shock absorbers also be replaced with...some longer ones? Total newbie here. Thanks
Depend on what shocks u have installed, but usually shocks have minor effect on ride height .. worth just putting the stock springs and see how it goes
Duck u don’t have to do that, just mark the orientation of the inner cam bolt and then loosen it a bit, then remove the outer bolt while supporting the arm with a jack, this will put no stress on the bushing. Always remember the inner cam bolt is part of the wheel alignment mechanism, although u can get it back close to original orientation but u cant guarantee perfect alignment .
If you were replacing the coil over springs do you need to replace the lower control arm as well since you’re prying at it? Also where does the top of the spring go?
Brandon Lukaszewski no need to replace the control arm as long as it is not noisy, cracked or u have alignment issue. Top of the spring !! Dont know what u mean
The Flying MechanicDIY OK, like you put the bottom spring over that bump stop thing but the top part I couldn’t see where in the wheel well or whatever it went
@@TheFlyingMechanicDIY Yes - that's the process for the OG 9-3 isn't it? Took mine off to replace the upper bump stops but a bit nervous of the effects if any on the anti roll bar on the rear axle when you have to force it down with the scissor jack. & the damn shock bolt took 20 minutes to get back in! Like youI don't want to use compressors if possible I'll give it another go in the spring (no pun intended!) Great videos though - thanks ; )
Thanks for not adding background techno music! Easier to take it all in.
Thats the cleanest 93 ever!
Yes, it is 😮
7:40 A tip is to use a big screwdriver in the hole to align it.
Good, straightforward video. Gets the job done. No noise or nonsense. A pleasure to watch. Thanks!

very useful and inspiring video. thanks. it gave me the knowledge to do the job. no unhelpful neighbours in your video - bless!
Favorite rim, bought for my car

You have a Haynes manual? Didn’t know they made one for these cars
Thank you so much perfect very clear video and easy way . hop see all video like yours ... Good job .
is that saab 9.3 2007 1.9Tid ( my car 9.3 .. 1.9Tid vector 2007 ) or the same ... looks same... do you know why or whats the reason becomes broken ??
As usual, awesome video! Thanks for making my DIY job easier!

Thanks for the comment .. im sticking with Stock ride height ..
Very clever as usual

@@TheFlyingMechanicDIY Thank you 😊
If it's possible, in order to remove the spring, it's better to use a spring compressor before to take out the bolt and then the spring
I hate spring compressors for how dangerous they are .. if u r comfortable with, then go ahead

Nice job is it easy to change the lower arm bushing?
Lower rear or front ?
The front is easy, the rear moderate job.
I have some clunking noises coming from back of car, could it be worn spring pads? I've replaced upper shock mounts recently.
Thats one possibility if they are worn out and the spring is touching the control arm
Where exactly did you place the jack stand in the rear?
Any part of the subframe that doesn’t conflict with ur working space
Your videos are easy to understand and clarity, very good job, i give you subscribe and like :)
Does using the scissor Jack put stress on the lower arm?
Yes it does, just a tinny bit, nthn major and it will not cause any damage ..
@@TheFlyingMechanicDIY okay thanks how would you compare this method with removing the control arm bolts and using a floor jack on it instead.
Duck u don’t have to do that, just mark the orientation of the inner cam bolt and then loosen it a bit, then remove the outer bolt while supporting the arm with a jack, this will put no stress on the bushing.

@@TheFlyingMechanicDIY Which one is the inner cam bolt that you don't need to take out Is it the one at the end of the shock?
Duck the control arm has two bolts, one connects to the knuckle (outer) and one connects to the subframe (inner)

Brandon Lukaszewski it attach to the body directly
@@brandonlukaszewski9556 the top of spring is open nothing there ...
Didn’t show removal of lower shocker bolt .
It doesn’t need to be removed .
