My dad was in the Navy, and briefly served with Prince Andrew - my dad had nothing but contempt for the man. He told me one story of when Prince Andrew offered to take a whole bunch of the crew under him out for dinner while they were on shore leave in Singapore; he said he knew a great restaurant there, and it would be 'a reward for all the hard work they'd done.' So he took them all off to this restaurant, told them "Have whatever you want, don't worry" and they all had a great slap-up meal. However, when the time came to pay, Andrew smirked at them all and said "Oh, come on, didn't you know? Us royals never carry cash. I can't pay for any of this - joke's on you, guys!" (Bear in mind this was not only in a foreign country, but a long time ago, in the days before bank cards, when cash and cheques were the only way to pay for things in shops and restaurants.)
Not only did all of the crew have to pay for their OWN meals (and Andrew had made sure to take them all to a really top-class restaurant) but they had to pay for Andrew's as well, since he didn't have the means. He apparently thought it was hilarious, being bankrolled by Ma'amy and the Civil List and all - but for all those ordinary sailors, on much lower pay and with wives and families to support, it was a massive punch in the wallet.

Andrew was the ONLY member of the RF who INSISTED on being addressed as "Your Highness" while serving as a junior officer in the navy, by everyone, no matter their rank, including his senior officers. He is a spoiled brat who has never had to grow up, never had to be responsible for his actions, and now should be sent into exile away from the public eye, never to be seen or heard from again. He's emotionally stunted, narcissistic, and thought himself "untouchable" until he was exposed for what he really is at long last.

I worked as an executive assistant for a very demanding man, a few years ago. When his wife couldn't stand it any longer, she made some unsuccessful attempts to leave & take their 2 children with her. She realized that she had to get away, then, go back to get their children later.
His wife had left him, leaving their 2 small children for him to take care of. He was very distraught. I began working in his home & supervising the 2 children. I truly loved those 2 sweet children, although I saw how very spoiled, they were at such young ages. The man would yell at me for not doing things exactly the way his wife had.
His children were becoming spoiled brats with a sense of entitlement. I needed the money very much, so, it took me awhile to find another job. The one I found paid a lot less, the work environment was much more pleasant. It was worth it to me.

He was spoiled and arrogant, brought up in that world where you get everything you want. That’s not all his fault Royal life is to blame. Now he’s been humbled a bit. Don’t tell me there aren’t assholes in all walks of life. Some people are moody, bipolar, depressed anxiety too. Walk a mile in his shoes. If he truly was a jerk, well so are millions of others in all walks of life. It’s not a crime to be a jerk. People talking about now tattle tales, vendettas, no better then he was or is. Bunch of crybabies coming out now, they never spoke about this years back. Bunch of hypocrites, probably getting paid to tell the bad side. Not one has told a good aide, and I’m sure he has. A good father, son, did his duties honoured his parents, that’s what bugs me, when famous person accusations all their alleged friend disappear” oh we had no idea” Micheal Jackson with exception of his family and Liz Taylor. Bill Cosby when he he just accussed, even if he was found guilty, even Harvey Weinstein. They are sure there for the good times though. Why didn’t Oprah defend him when he was accused. Innocent til proven guilty. Oh I had no idea. This was when he was just accused. Before found guilty. Makes me sick how people abandon you, when you are just accused. Not yet tried or convicted. Especially family. How many worked for this asshole Weinstein for years, became millionaires because of him, and then abandoned when time is right. A few Oscar winnng actresses did, and some knew for years what was going on, turned other way.

I’m sure this maid’s account of her treatment and the the behaviour of this member of the royals will be dismissed by some as jumping on the bandwagon, trying to profit from the publicity or some such criticism. From my perspective and other accounts, particularly the car crash interview, nothing she said surprises me at all. A horrible, entitled excuse for a human being, totally lacking in decency and an unapologetic lying predator with no empathy for the survivors of abuse. To align himself with a charity supporting abused women is an insult to their suffering.

A friend of mine worked at Buckingham Palace as a kitchen maid, her duties included setting up the individual afternoon tea trays for the Royals, to include their favourite drink, cakes and biscuits (cookies). One day she was summoned to receive a lecture from a senior male member of the household staff. Apparently Andrew had been incensed that his favourite biscuit was missing and insisted the maid be severely reprimanded.

Most European royals have been brought up by nannies and the mothers were just loosely supervising the nannies.
The nannies were often changed because the royals did not believe in emotional attachments and fiercely took actions to avoid them being formed.
So the royal children had (exactly like foster children or orphans) to form attachments to things or procedures to maintain sanity.
Same happened in rich American families. I met a lot of very rich men in the US with strong neurotic behavior patterns, which all grew up with nannies and in boarding schools.
They have all the typical symptoms like biting nails, stuttering, sucking their thumb when no one is watching or being overly sexual etc.
    Very very sad.
An example - Prince Charles at age fife was taken to a train station to greet his mother who was returning from a long trip. When the train arrived he greeted the lady in waiting because she looked familiar to him. He did not know what his mother looked like.

Looking back at it's origins in Feudalism the whole point of Royalty was that it was the backbone of a power structure that oppressed the bulk of the population...it was the authority of the monarch that legitimized the power of the Lords and Knights flowed down to oppress the peasants'. Yes I know it has been civilized and democratized to a degree over time but still the fundamental message of the monarchy is that a person is entitled to respect and authority not because of their character or achievements but simply because of the people who happen to be their parents ....over the long term these friction between this idea and a democratic society will slowly grow greater and greater and greater . The reason that "Prince" Andrew's behavior is getting such coverage is it is a safe way to express this friction this tension and also an example of how the whole idea of "Royalty" is absurd.

However, to pay for a personal maid for someone other than the Queen herself and others in immediate direct line to the throne (currently Charles) is outrageous. A house cleaner? Sure.
