Sophie is said to also have an excellent relationship with Kate, Camilla, Zara, Anne, Beatrice and Eugenie...the Queen values her highly and that is a tremendous sign of how fine a woman she is...the Queen is an excellent judge of character.

I met and worked with Prince Edward once many years ago. He was a thoroughly nice chap, concerned for everyone's welfare, and was well liked by all present. My favourite royal.

I always admired the courage he showed when he stood down from the military. He and his lovely wife Sophie are a credit to the Royal family.
He's too gentle for the army. He was always so delicate when a child, so polite, never expecting much from others.

@@marymillar225 If I could choose just one of the royal family to be able to have a friendship with, it would be him. He seems like he can LAUGH, and to me that is one of the best qualities. That reality show he produced was excellent. It got panned by the critics, but his youth and enthusiasm was on full display and it caused me to enjoy it immensely!!! While others say he shouldn't have done that, I applaud him and the other royals who participated in it. First time I had ever seen them let their hair down and just have fun in public.

It speaks to their good relationship that his father didn't challenge Edward when he resigned from the military. I think that Edward might have helped Phillip mellow in his later years. Phillip was pretty crusty.

Prince Edward has always been under the radar, as the youngest son of the British Monarch, he made the least ripple and controversy (figuratively and literally). Like myself who have been following the British Royal family since my younger days in the 70’s, even though Im not a Brit, Im happy that Prince Edward has become the most reliable children of the Queen. And that he is taking very active role as part of the firm since leaving an unsuccessful showbiz career. I wish him and Princess Sophie more success and, hopefully, no controversy to stain his reputation in the future.

What work ? He dropped out of the marines because he couldn’t handle it, his film company went bust. What do we hear about what he does these days ? Nothing. Every photo of his son the child looks absolutely miserable and the daughter doesn’t look much happier..

I love Prince Edward and Princess Sophie, they are humble, caring, hard-working Royals and have never caused drama. Their children are lovely. Such a breath of fresh air for the Queen having a child with a wonderful happy family just like the Cambridge's. Edward like his sister Princess Anne and Prince Charles works hard with no complaints.

I always remember Prince Edward and the late Queen Mother walking into Westminster Abbey together, behind Her Majesty the Queen, for the funeral of Princess Diana. It was so sweet to see him representing Diana's generation with the senior royals.

I had the happy occasion of meeting Prince Edward at a reception following his presentation of the restoration of Windsor Castle after the fire destroyed much of it. It was slide presentation showing the damaged rooms, each one before the fire, then after the fire, and then the room after the restoration. He told how they scoured the world searching for artisans and craftsmen who could replicate the skills of stone cutting, wooden beams made out of a tree that grows in the vicinity of the castle, frescoes, etc. His talk was fascinating. His presentation also revealed his keen sense of humor and down to earth persona. When I met him, I related our touching experience at Windsor Castle with the elderly pensioners who work there with the visiting tourists. In 2002 I was still recovering from months of chemo and radiation for breast cancer and was using a wheelchair. As my son rolled me up to the entrance, and prepared to carry the chair up the steps, one of the gentlemen said " Let me help you, sir" and took the chair then came down to me and offered his arm to help me up the steps. Once inside, he put us in one of the tiny elevators the Queen uses and advised his coworker by walkie talkie that we were in the lift. That was repeated thru out our tour. I asked him to pls tell my experience to The Queen of how gracious her staff were to us. He listened intently and then asked if I was recovering well and wished me many years of good health. He was so gracious and approachable. I have a photo of us together. It was one of the highlights of my Life and THE highlight of out trip for the Golden Jubilee. He is a wonderful man! I wish more people could experience the Royal Family as we did and see just how lovely they are.

Lucky you. When Diana visited Chicago in 1996, I almost went to Cook County Hospital to see her, I was born there in the late 60's. Unfortunately I did not feel like dealing with the crowds and changed my mind. I always regretted that.

@@mariaml9854 I often wondered over the years since they were married where they were seldom seen in public nor did we hear much about them. They seem to be in the public eye me ch more these days which is nice to see. They seem to be a happy couple.
I have long been a fan of Prince Edward & Sophie. I've also felt that they have never been fully appreciated or respected by the Press, which unfortunately means by the public either as they are very rarely mentioned in the Press. I put this down to being like Princess Anne, they just quietly get on with their Royal duties & any Private Charities they're involved with. They don't frequent nightclubs or the fancy London society parties, in fact they lead quite a normal middle class life, + a few perks as members of the RF. The whole family have a close relationship with the Queen & the late Prince Philip, but Lady Louise was extremely close to her Grandfather, who was very proud of her ability in carriage driving & he spent many hours giving her tips & helping her improve. I have a set of Crown & Country DVD's, an excellent series produced by Ardent Productions, written & Presented by Prince Edward, a great series for those of us with a Historical Interest & one of a few that explored the history of Royalty & commoner from the Royal view. This is a wonderful & successful marriage & family of modern day Royalty & perhaps that is why they are overlooked.

Edward and Sophie and their children are a favorite of the Queen's children and grand children. They spend quite a bit of time with Her Majesty. You could see how hard Sophie took the loss of Prince Philip. I was happy knowing they were there to support the Queen through he loss.

The truth is for all these fawners, most of the royal family had been a serious embarrassment to the queen over the years many times over. Affairs, divorces, lolitas, mess ups, even leaving the country. Nothing to admire there.

What I like about Prince Edward the most: he is so down to earth and almost normal. And that despite of being a royal prince. I also have the impression that he and his wife Princess Sophie are very professional and quietly doing their duties. Which also reminds me very much of Princess Anne, the hardest and most quiet working member of the royal family. I can also very easily understand why Princess Anne as well as Princess Sophie had nothing to say to Prince Harry when they met him during the funeral of the Duke of Edinburgh.

A son in whom both parents are well pleased. He gave them peace of mind; a usually rare expectation from the youngest of even ordinary families. Everything mustn’t be about career and financial success. He has discovered himself and is successful in that which he was created to be.
Don't know much about him, I guess because he hasn't been in the news like his asshole brothers.
Phillip sent him to toughen up and be a Royal Marine. That didn't work so not that pleased with him. The best thing he did was marry Sophie and stay out of the way.

Yes, he is. The Windsors are not the most beautiful of families, but Edward seems, among the queen’s children, the only one to have struck it rich in the gene pool. Charles is better-looking now than when he was younger, but the whole soap opera-with him, Diana and Camila, has affected the public’s perception of him. He is probably a decent person, but has saddled himself with so much baggage. Andrew is probably the least likable of the lot; his sense of entitlement is so obvious, and there seems to be so little about him to justify it. I would imagine that being born into this family has more disadvantages than advantages. Prince Edward and his lovely wife have apparently made an exemplary and happy life for themselves, in spite of it, and-while he would appear to be the best-suited for the throne, among his siblings-it is probably a blessing that he will likely never inherit it. I enjoyed learning more about this truly impressive man and his wife.

People shit talked Prince Edward for YEARS, but now he's getting the respect he always deserved. He's the only one of the four that hasn't done anything to embarrass the family & he's had no marital trouble, probably because he married at an older age & was mentally set for it when he met the one. I predict he's going to play a much bigger role in the future, especially once Prince Charles is King.

But he did. His camera crew stalked Prince William while he attended University. His wife fell foul of a sting similiar to the Duchess of York.

My daughter had the joy of giving a speech to Prince Edward when she was in jr high and he was in Calgary to present the Duke of Edinburg awards. He was gracious and humble, not joined the presenters on stage until after they made their presentations to him.

Wow Prince Edward and his wife have developed into important pillars to the British royal family which is wonderful I always heard that his sister princess royal Ann Was also extremely close to her father. She is also of course tremendously supportive of her mother the queen.
I had the privilege of meeting Prince Edward twice. On both occasions I found him courteous and caring. Like his mother & brother, Queen Elizabeth ll & King Charles lll he had done his homework prior to us meeting. Therefore took an interest in our conversation . Which was about our community & parks. People and our surroundings. Both of which the Royals really do care about.
A beautiful story. Just as I had hoped for and expected!
A comfort to the Queen especially in her final years. Edward & Sophie & grandchildren were garlands to the Late Duke of Edinburgh. His death was never on vain. May HRH soul rest in peace knowing that HM the Queen is never alone.

I always thought of him as the most handsome prince of all of the princes among Queen Elizabeth's children. Just like in all fairytales where the third son is always the best, the smartest, the bravest, the most pure-hearted, I thought the same for Prince Edward.

I think that the fact that his endeavours failed speaks well of the royal family in general, since in I believe any other country they would have infinite andconstant injection of money to keep the company from going bankrupt.

It is always interesting about parents and a favorite child---I am guessing all parents love their children but doesn't it come down to personality and behavior? Seems as though Edward has never given his parents the problems the other boys have---being more level headed and responsible making it far easier to be thought of as a "Favorite"
I think in many cases, the youngest, especially when there are several years in between, is special in a different way than the older siblings. One thing is the parents are more relaxed.

Queen Elizabeth was a different mother to Edward than she was to her other children. By the time Edward was born, she had a different perspective on motherhood and spent real time with Edward as he grew up.
Prince Edward is great Joy to the Queen and Prince Philip. He is the most grounded and capable of their children. He reminds me of Philip as he is steadfast and loyal to Great Britain.His wife is a lovely lady and devoted to Edward. His life is very quiet but influential.
Amazingly we hot to see Prince Edward all the way in Sask Canada. He visited the armories here and spent time with the men in the Dragoons. He was simply "one of them" and sat in the dirt with them to eat his lunch.

There were plenty of nasty comments about Edward when his resignation from the Royal Marines was announced. I think one headline called him The Prince of Wails". Ohers have praised him for asserting his desires for a different kind of life from his siblings. And I think some of his fellow Marines praised him by calling him "Rock steady Eddie".

Well, obviously his family didn't think so. Because he was an artistic, sensitive person who wanted to be an actor instead of pursuing a military career. They more or less pushed him into marrying Sophie to save his reputation.

Prince Edward earned his Green Beret the way every marine does, he was shown no special treatment or short cuts in earning this noble and most worthy honour. Of all the members of the Royal family, quiet and dignified Edward is the one you would not want to mess with.

I always heard Anne was his favorite. But with Philip being such an Alpha male it makes sense that his youngest would be his favorite. Philip was a hoot and had such a sense of duty. It makes sense he would admire his young son for trying to his own way.

@@dermot51 He joined the military after college but left after a few months. He owned a production company that failed. Then he went back to the RF. He's now the chair of a charity that gives awards to teens and he supports the arts. Other than that he's the only child of the Queen who hasn't been divorced which is quite an accomplishment given the RF's divorce rate. 😊

I am going to guess that attending Edward's birth increased his father bond. Plus he is the youngest and came at a good time in their life. Prince Edward and his lovely wife Sophie seems very genuine. I wish them all the best now that the Queen has died.
Prince Edward seems like a pretty nice fellow. I’m glad that he and his wife are happy and I’m very glad that he has nothing to be ashamed of and doesn’t make a spectacle of himself in the media. I’m a little bit older than he is, and I’m the seventh of nine children. The oldest, my oldest brother, is 17 years older than me and 20 years older than my younger sister. I know what it’s like to have a big age gap with a sibling.
