Rise of internet culture and thousands of new entertainment options? In the last few years I've held a similar discussion regarding the Olympics. It seemed to be SUCH a bigger deal when I was young. Whether due to lack of options, the long standing competition between the US and the Soviets, or something else, don't really know.
As a child, probably about 6yrs old, I had a nasty accident that left me feeling sorry for any guy who gets injured in the groin. I was walking along a very thin "wall", when I slipped & injured my groin area. That was painful enough. I can only try to imagine the level of pain that would have caused a guy!
I like the story of the guy who had hiccups for like 27 years I believe. So the next time you get the hiccups, just think; You may be well on your way for setting a new world record!
Once rode a bike on a divider median that was the same width as the street curbs (about 6 inches) through 45 mph traffic with two lanes on my right going with me, and two lanes on my left going against me for a distance of a bit over 3000 feet. To fall off the curb would have meant an imminent collision with traffic and there was no place to stop. This was one of those times I wished I had a Go-Pro to document the event as there is no way in hell I would ever do that again. The faces on the people coming toward me were priceless.
Would this not be a record Phineas P. Gage (1823-1860) was an American railroad construction foreman remembered for his improbable survival of an accident in which a large iron rod was driven completely through his head,
As for 8:20 with the knife in skull , some guy was impailed with a javelin through the top bk of his skull and came out through his eye socket, he lived but lost an eye
That has happened to many people actually. One very famous example is Oswald von Wolkenstein, who had an entire jousting lance buried in his face. Depending on what kind of lance he used, it could have weighed up to 8lbs.
