I've had my ducky shine 3 for around 5 years now. Even today i'm still amazed of it's build quality and the fact that it feels like i could use it forever. No useless gimmicks (unless you count the rgb) and everytime you lift or move the keyboard just from it's weight you're always reminded that you're using an expensive premium keyboard. No problems with the leds and the only keycap that has any wear on it is my W key a little from the top left corner.
RGB isn't useless for the same reason syntax highlighting in programming isn't. If you set up your lighting intelligently, you can make it so if you ever need to look at it you can find your key quicker. It's subtle, but useful. But, while typing, sure, it's not needed.
Crap. I had one and sent it back. Listen to the truth. The level of pinging resonance is completely unacceptable on a board of this price. Junk. Not for me.
I have a Ducky Shine 3 from 2012. Held up really well over the years. All switches and LEDs are in working order. Had a look at the pcb back when I got it and the soldering is top notch. Can't say the same for some competitors. Just got the missus a Shine 7. Soldering is still top notch. The Shine 3 was already solid but the Shine 7's body feels incredibly premium. These will definitely last at least a decade of heavy use.

I have a Ducky Shine 4 with Blues and still love it, have had it a few years now. Thinking of getting a seven as my home keyboard and use the 4 at work.
SAVE your money, its awful. This keyboard has the worst PING i have ever heard. It costs a fortune and you will send it back i can promise you. ALL THE REVIEWS ON THIS BOARD ARE LIES. ITS GARBAGE.

this is the kind of keyboard I like, if I am going to pay 200 bucks I want it to be for quality, RGB is a nice touch though, I dont need media keys, lcd screens and a bunch of other gimmicks the main brands tend to advertise, same reason I am leaning towards getting a Zowie Mouse or Etokki Fightstick Korean edition, just a nice a piece of equipment with enough style to make still look good.
It's a shame he didn't use other keyboard switches to compare the sound levels, I wanted quieter switches but wasn't sure how loud the silent reds actually were. Hahaha
Upgrading to this from a Corsair MK 95 platinum. I finally got tired of the shoddy spacebar, keycaps that break all the time, and just the generally bad feel in typing quality. Getting to try blue clicky switches will also be fun.
did you get yours already? I had a white Shine 4 before with brown switches, loved that board. But wanted to get a darker color board to compliment my new build and went with a Blackout Shine 7 with MX blues - first time using blues for a longer period - and I'm loving it from the jump. Luck of the draw brought me purple accent keycaps and the chinese new year rat space bar... So precise and the PBT keycaps are way nicer than the ABS ones the older model had. It's a beast of a board, weighing a tad under 1.5kg and there is no deck flex _at all_. Keeps in place with the heft and the rubber feet. Outstanding work from Ducky, I love this keyboard.
@@stobe187 Believe it or not, i actually got BLUE keycaps with it, fittingly. And yes, it is f*cking awesome. It's amazing how good it is for the price, and unbelievable that so many other manufacturers would sell you a lower quality product than this for either the same price or more. I wish ducky spent a little more on marketing when i was younger, because it really is what i've always wanted, but never realized that i did. Also really effing neat to know that these keycaps won't break in a year or two, unlike my corsair k95 where the entire reason i even bought a new board was because they kept breaking.

How do you like it? I just ordered the blackout version with red silent switches. I’ve tried those switches before but wanted to switch from Corsair as I’ve had issues with a couple of my led’s having a red tint to them. So far I’m excited and looking forward to getting my Ducky Shine 7.
Unmentioned flaw - due to poor quality control, the many of the keycaps have black rectangular plastic flakes on the inside of the keycap (melted into the second, translucent layer), which creates dark spots when the keys are backlit. It looks especially ugly on special keys like PgUp or PrtSc where letters may be barely legible. Mind that it's purely an aesthetic flaw, but one that should be absent from such an expensive keyboard. Other than that, from functional point of view, I have discovered no flaw yet.
I just got a logitec k840 after my MS keyboard died. I'm a child of the 80's and I recall the original IBM keyboards. I knew something was different about modern keyboards but I never bothered to dig deeper and understand these differences. I don't know how I feel about the Romer G switches which are on this keyboard. But the ABS keys really feel off not sure how to explain it. I've heard that ABS keys wear out. How long can I expect to have these keys? I'm not a serious gamer or a typist. I was thinking about the Ducky keyboard that you reviewed above. The thing is I don't know which version of the Cherry switches I would like. I think I like a bellcurve type of activation and something in the quieter side. It seems that the Browns are in that category would you agree?
Year of the ram here and I've pulled mine apart and cleaned it a couple times but it comes out looking out of the box new every time even using alcohol doesn't ruin the keys (of course you can use other things that'll be better)
just spilled a full coffee over my shine 3 that i've had for a few years and it screwed it up pretty bad, isn't recognised by most of my usb ports. Must have fried some circuits because the lights don't work properly anymore and some of the buttons won't register half the time.... NUUUUU :( I'm gettin another one
Bought one today with cherry silver switch. Is there anyway to dim the light beneath the Calculator key? Holding FN+F10 only turns off the RGB lights. the Calculator light is still on and blinding.
@Peter Mortensen Not well. I was disappointed by the quality of the legends in the keycaps, I mean how they are not evenly lit. Biggest deal breaker for me was the space bar leds that was shining to my eyes. So I ended up returning it.
paint chipping seems to be an issue with the blackout version. The gunmetal grey version (which is being reviewed) does not have the paint chipping issue.
While certainly an issue, I'm buying one today despite the almost certain occurrence of said issue. I'm thinking that it's like with leather jackets. A little bit of wear adds style to it. 😋

I have the Shine 5. The only issue I had with it was some of LED's crapping out. It still works perfectly functionality wise though.

Lol even windows XP had that option to use the numpad as a mouse, I think it was called mouse keys or something.

Are the RGB;s supposed to flicker like that? Looks terrible.
They only appear to flicker because of the camera, you wouldn't see it with the naked eye. Same as most LED tail lights on cars.
