Yes, totally different saws. The 3120 is like holding on to a motorcycle with tons of torque (think rumbling Harley) The 592 is like a crotch rocket...fast/quick and high pitched.
All the logs I cut are 12 to maybe 18 inches so I have never had to ripped any. My question is do your saws go thru the logs faster when your cutting rounds or ripping ?
if you have the right saw and it is sharp AND you cut right it should be close but mostly cross cutting is faster depending on the wood and the diameter.

Those are definitely heavy! I know the two MS880's i have gets tiring especially when cutting a large diameter tree. Also makes for a big big pile of noodles. Great firestarter there. Hope all is well Chris!

Dude how many saws do you own. Don't let anybody ever tell you you have enough. I own stihl. 500 i, 461, 462 c, a 271, an older super 029, and a small 170. But I'm going to get me a 261 c. My favorite big saw is the 462 and the 461 . for some reason I don't really care for the500 i. Selling it as of right now. It just seems flemsy to me for some reason. Great video Chris. Those saws are something else. I've had farm bikes with less horse power than those. What a pleasure to see those noodles pouring out. When I do ripping like that I'm under instruction from "she who must be obeyed" to bag them and bring them home to put under her strawberry plants and round her shrubs etc. Got a wee bit out of hand when after a week on big old man pines I came home with twenty odd sacks! You can turn a log into picnic table tops in no time my guy, this is epic. Biggest saw i ever used was 48 inch bar, and i felt like i worked an 8 hr day after one tree felling. 😂
That long cut made a huge pile of noodles. Saw did real good with that big bar. That arborist will call you to use that saw. That old saw cut real good.
Opening a log like this seems to be more efficient using the Brazilian method, but there's no denying that it's fun to use a chainsaw monster like this 🤣
Crazy question. . To cut those 2 pieces all in 2 quarters, and 16" with a 70cc saw. Or do it all with a 119cc saw. . Approximately, Which used more fuel? . Feal free to stick the old one in a USPS flat rate box. and sent it out to pasture, out west. no bar required. LOL
I do not know for sure but it would probably be faster with the 592 and a 24" bar cutting from both sides on the cross cut THEN ripping them down. The 592 is way faster cutting. This was just for fun and to justify the purchase!
@@InTheWoodyard i find a 90 somthing cc saw is plenty big for 99% of everything done. Mabe for are slab bundles from the mill, cutting it to length would be about the only practical use. . A 36" light bar would do it wonders in the logistics department, of just moving it around lol.
I'd never seen one of these big girls worked hard before. I was a bit disappointed, it seemed to struggle / bog more than i was expecting, obviously the myth and hype around these saws had me expecting more! Got the job done well enough though! the old saw with the smaller blade was impressive, that's probably what i was expecting of the new saw with the big blade, which is probably a tad unrealistic!
So far , my 562 Husky. I’ll run up to a 28” bar without any problems. It’s a hungry saw that gets even hungrier with a pipe mod. That’s just my 2 cents worth. Have a good day 🤙 and be careful out there. Much love from North Carolina.
70cc Pro saw made by either Stihl or Husqvarna with a SHARP 24" chain, saw of choice right now is a 572XP when I get old might switch to a smaller lighter 60cc saw.
We made a splitter witt a 36 inch wedge to split stuff like that up than ran through processor it was mounted on truck frame and had a tractor Diesel engine on it with a box you plugged in to run the ram 10 feet away had a button you turned to increase speed for power for splitting then you idled it down to back it up push stop button then would put log in move wegde up agaist end of log then in crease speed something like that would split into quarters for processor it's amazing machine I'll have someone take pictures on cell phone and send them to you just letting you know appreciate you and all you do to keep people informed thanks again forgot the big splitter has outrigger on it to stabilize it when working 19:20
In defense of longer bars in the western woods in logging situations not in a firewood yard most trees are not laying flat on the ground and are elevated somewhat with limbs and slash debris. IMHO in the upper midwest day to day it is hard to go wrong with a 70cc Pro saw with a sharp! 20-24" b&c.👍
From some of the comments I can't help but think there are sheds across America full of unused slabs because people thought it was too good to buck up.
You're a better man than I. I wouldn't even want to rip a 4 foot long log. Hard to manage heat build up and keep the saw cutting straight. You have fun with that. A lot of work is right. Fun for you, but I'm not that strong anymore. It's simply a lot of work - and too big is not as safe for me.

Ripping the log with the long bar is much faster and easier on the saw than using a Alaskan Mill set-up. Ripping with the Alaskan Mill is not actually ripping, because the saw teeth are cutting across the fibers not with the fibers. You could cut some nice parallel planks free hand with that big bar.
Yup, pretty much so I agree. VERY few people need a bar over 28-32" is very long and unnecessary for 99.9999% of people ...but if you can...why not!!!???
@@InTheWoodyard I have one 36 inch bar with two skip chains, I bought many years ago for a couple of "oversized" cottonwoods and a 28 inch the rest are 20's and 24's. The 36 hangs on the wall in the shop most of the time. I live in the northern plains, not very many trees and most of them are not all that "big".

Hmmm seems like most BC heli guys that I see are running 36" and a few 42" but are cutting mostly the smaller 6-8 footers. Good thing Donny does most of his work sitting down as he somehow managed to break his foot, carting or maybe he was cutting a tree from a ladder? 🤔🤨😂

It's good, the 3120 has a "extra" oil control on the back so you can juice it up on big cuts.

The old saw sounds like it defiantly has more RPM. sounds a little lean but way more RPMS, what do you think?
They are pretty close. The new one has the 60" bar and full house .404 chain and the old one has a 42"skip tooth 3/8 chain so......

This wood was very soft and I had just taken the rakers down a bit... she was digging TOO much so I should have left them as is....

I think the older broken in 3120 ran better. But thats to be expected I supose. Great fun.

For my big saw i ended up going with the 881. 122cc versus the 3120 at 118cc.
How does the oiler work on that 4cc bigger saw that cost $400 more..that is only $100 a cc.

I sell firewood. It is not worth it for the time it would take to get a few logs to a mill for a few boards I do not need or want.
