  • In this episode I take a trip to Cornwall and get stuck into some Pool skating. I work on tighter carves, pumping and generating speed. I also have a go at skating without pads.

    First time you bring on a topic where I am sort of 'on par' with your progress! Love skating 'tight' bowls like these, steep and small, really challenging. Love it when the transition pushes my knees into my chest. Doing stuff with / on the coping is such an interesting journey. Going through the same experiences as you are. Well done mate!

    My method for getting carve grinds dialed is to keep both feet on top of the bolts at both ends of the board, apply pressure to the heel-side(frontside) or toe side(backside), and allow your head to follow the lead shoulder.
    This is an efficient method for me, at least, because I don't have to throw my upper body and hips to get through the grinds. Just keep your hips, knees, and ankles slightly firm/bent while keeping upper your upper body loose so you can retain your speed once you get out of the carve grind

    Hi John another question here. I've been looking really closely at your technic and it seems that when you do a backside grind (or topturn) you don't really lead the way with your front arm while you do seem to do this on your frontside turns. Is this on purpose and would you recommend it?

    • @JonBishopSkate
      @JonBishopSkate  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Dude
      Yeah, I’ve been refining my turns, this video is from a while back. Truth is I’m not sure what I do in the moment, I have just used the way I surf to try and achieve the end results though feel. I can see what you mean, my arms and body change from turn to turn, I’m hoping my style will continue to refine through practice. I might do a follow up to this video?!! Many thanks for tuning in!!

    • @SunriseSessions
      @SunriseSessions 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JonBishopSkate yeah, a follow up would be really great. Either way I would be really happy if I ever ended up skating like that😀. I started looking for it because when I recorded my own session I found that I really counter rotated on my backside turns. It's funny because that used to be the problem as well when I started sliding on my longboard. I figured, in my case it's because I don't open up my shoulder at the beginning of the turn. Your videos really help a lot!

    I find it hard not slide out when carving wooden indoor pools. They tend to be so slippery or my skills are bad. Any suggestions?

    • @JonBishopSkate
      @JonBishopSkate  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey dude, yeah I recon it depends on how clean they keep the wooden park in question. Wheel compound can also help. I use 97a which seems to work well on wood. I used to slip around a lot, but with more practice I think you get use to the sort of movements and the amount
      of pressure you can put on the wheels without slipping?
