    One very crucial thing is missing on the list and it's information overload. It can give you essentially ADD/ADHD like sypmtoms. I learned this hard way. In 3 years time I got very advanced and demanding project as IT/engineer developer where I had to not only analyze a lot but was spending literally whole nights on training and doing research and reading. My therapist said I have essentially "fried" my brain. I have problem focusing, planning and all the other things I used to do effortlessly. I don't even recognize myself anymore same as people around me. Now will be taking time off work and had to put myself together.

      What you are describing is essentially stress. And stress can create the same symptoms you are describing.

      Actually suffering literally the same issue, without advocating for its wider use or even at the individual level, by using marijuana very conservatively i could say that during the time-lapse of its effect i feel quite focused motivated and most of my job gets done during, but i al not planning to use it indefinitely, I ask the doctor what would his thoughts be regarding this dilemma

      I was studying electronics, decades ago. Best book I read on the subject had this in the preface, "Avoid Brain Damage" . don't do too much, it can cause damage. amino acids may help, look it up... it really helps my ADHD.

    I just have to post this:
    I did the same thing every single day, working on fromt of my screen.
    I had no breaks I was to disciplined I even suppressed my luck hormones,positive hormones by saying myself that i don't need breaks.
    I did this and kept doing this and I didn't even see the burnout coming.
    And than one day I felt so crazy I hear a voice in my head , my own voice motivating me to keep going.
    And than I had all these toxic emotions within me because I forgot how it feels to relax I simply forgot it because I forced myself to not take breaks.
    I was in a very very very dangerous place 1,5 MONTHS because I could not do what I love because my brain has given up on me.
    The craziest thing was that I didn't even know how to relax anymore because relaxing is associated with these good feelings which I didn't have anymore and all the knowledge and everything is connected to these feelings.
    So I had to force myself to sit down and meditate even tho every single cell in my body screamed don't do this !!!!
    Now I learned how to relax again and I will never risk my health for anything.
    Once you lose what's most important you don't want anything else in life but to be healthy again.
    Never play with your health okay guys, I know you all want to protect your loved once and work and make money but you can only do this of you take care if yourself.
    What an crazy experience that was.
    If you ever have this:
    Force yourself to sit and do nothing even if someone has to fix you at your bed.
    Meditate
    Do sport
    And than work on your mindset game again, but first take care of you being relaxed again, if you've git this ,Than work on the mind.
    Don't try to fix your relaxation with your mind , it's nit gonna work.😂

    The root cause for my inflammation and toxins was me suppressing my luck feeling and telling myself to not take breaks and even tho I felt bad inside I kept working.
    Which caused me to fight how to be happy which even brought me to forget how to breathe.

      @@DrPeterKan Thank you, Doctor. I just called your office to try to schedule. I left a voicemail. I have been having severe digestive issues for 4 months now that nobody even believes are happening. I have been to the ER probably a dozen times within these months and nobody can help me because nobody sees a problem or believes me, everybody thinks I'm crazy. I have lost ten pounds in the last few weeks and get dehydrated very easily. When my body is struggling to digest something, all these symptoms happen... Dehydration, severe anxiety and panic, insomnia, pain in kidneys, high blood pressure, heart palpations, burning and/or pressure in my skull.. A lot of these symptoms have gotten better since I started taking betaine hcl with meals, but the last couple days it seems to not work as well. I know I have inflammation somewhere in my body because my white blood cells have been very high the last few months. I assume the inflammation is in my bowels. I don't know what to do, I feel so lost alone and hopeless. I have been trying so hard but I don't know what I'm doing because I don't know what's going on.

    How is ashwaganda for the brain? I have battled with Lupus for 15 years and now I'm working on the leaky gut and eating clean...Thank you for everything Dr Peter

    • @DrPeterKan
      @DrPeterKan  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @godfirst8367 Rather than asking whether ashwaganda or any other product is good for the brain, it's better to ask "what is causing the brain problem in the first place?" If you don't know what is causing the problem, how do you know what product to use? A product that says on the bottle "Good for the brain" doesn't mean it's good for the brain, because that does not tell you what causing the problem. Most people buy supplements based on the marketing claim of the product, rather than doing the proper work up to figure out the root cause, This is why so many people are still struggling with symptoms despite taking a cupboard full of supplements. This is why this channel exists, to provide the thought process behind why you do something, rather than telling you just to take a pill.

    • @pawsitivenooz
      @pawsitivenooz 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Low vitamin D can cause a LOT more than just brain issues. It is however interesting that in the olden days in England they referred to the head as a 'nut' and nuts and shrooms actually heal the brain. People with early stages of neuro damage or frontal lobe should be taking Lion's Mane and ginseng. I would also say curcumin to keep inflamation down and nutrition needs to be almost all raw vegan or 100% vegan and 75% raw. I would really like to put together a study program to concentrate on -improving the brain naturally- and then apply someplace for a doctorate working on this. I'm writing a book right now on the holistic nutrition part.

    This is a fantastic lecture. Thank you so much. You are very clear to understand.
    I am watching this because my son had a bad injury to his forehead when he was about 15 months old. I wasn't there, he was with the nanny, so I don't know if he lost consciousness but he seemed ok when I got home so I just thought it looked worse than it was.
    There are so many issues he has that make me think he has the frontal lobe damage: he doesn't structure sentences right (written or oral, and he stammers), can't plan tasks, can't take complex instructions, has no motivation, has poor anger management issues, etc etc.
    He also can't listen to loud noises, so he hates his music lessons at school because the teacher seems to give out instruments and then let them all do their own thing. You've made me really focused now to go and ask them to give him music lessons on a woodwind instrument - even if he sounds terrible at it. I'm thinking of other dexterous things he can do, like we make Knex rollercoasters, but they are complex so he let's me do the lion's share of the work. Clearly I need to supervise him, and support with encouraging words not another set of hands.
    I was also thinking that cycling would be a good physical exercise to start him off because there isn't a need for being part of a team (where he hangs back and never really works as hard as he should) but will still generate that Motor Strip.
    I'm really determined to resolve these issues now that I am more aware he must have suffered brain injury. For years I've been asking the family doctor to refer him somewhere, but to no avail, and now my son has hit puberty he's getting bad headaches.
    Thank you for your really inspiring video. Sorry to have gone on at such length!

    Signs of neurodegeneration come along with menopause. The 5-10 years before the periods stop see a gradual lowering of hormones. This can lead to fatigue, brain fog, slowed thinking, and lowered mood.

    • @DrPeterKan
      @DrPeterKan  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sex hormone deficiency can be a culprit of neurodegeneration for some. But it's not the cause for all people. Hence we must take an individualized approach to chronic conditions such as neurodegeneration, and not fit everyone in the same box.

    Dr Kan, I have insulin resistance. Ups and downs in blood sugar affects my ability to speak and focus with brain fog. I can handle it with good lifestyle (exercise, diet, IF). But, I also developed some kind of food intolerance at the same time. When I eat something wrong, suddenly I can't remember words, can't speak, can't focus and it happens so fast with brain fog. I even noticed I loose eye contact. These foods also cause acid reflux like chocolate, spices or coffee. At the same time they include the ones that are high in histamines like tuna fish, beer and aged cheese. I started to use anti-histamine medicine and it worked wonders, but just for 3 months. Then it started not working (probably I developed tolerance). I deal with this for 5 years and I can't find a solution except very very strict diet. Gluten sensitivity test is negative, blood tests are OK, blood sugar tests are normal, insulin resistance test is positive, no helicobacter pylori in stool, endoscopy seems OK. What do you think? All these started after I used PPIs for one month and cutting smoking. I have mild acid reflux symptoms and also developed allergic asthma.

    • @DJ42487
      @DJ42487 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You sound like me a bit lol. For me
      I'm fairly certain it's gluten and my gut health so I mostly do keto aside from when I workout hard at the gym. When I do that I need pre and post workout meals that include a simple carb like honey before the workout and then a complex carb like sweet potato as a post workout meal. People call it a targeted ketogenic diet. But I also include IF and when I'm disciplined my acid reflux seems to stay in check but when it's not it feels like brain is getting inflamed and the back of my neck will get stiff along with my jaw and lymphnodes in my jaw and neck feel painful and like they are workong hard to clear my system of crap I've ingested like I oreos ect. When that's going on it automatically causes my body to feel stressed and anxious and in survival mode along with poor brain function. I noticed during the acid reflux that eating a bit of raw ginger will calm my stomach down to good level.

    So what I hear you saying is that folding laundry is actually helping me.

    • @DrPeterKan
      @DrPeterKan  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It depends on the context. If you are just lazy and don''t like folding laundry, folding laundry will help you have an organized laundry pile, but not necessarily improve your frontal lobe. But if you are having difficulty with the motor coordination of your muscles when folding laundry, then folding laundry may improve that aspect of your neurological weakness.

    I have lived with chronic pain for years due to autoimmune disease. RA.
    I Have been on different medicines for it.
    I am sure it has effected my brain and my central nervous system is in overdrive. That's how I feel that my body is in a heightened over stimulated mode.
    I have difficulties as you described regarding the frontal cortex and pre frontal cortex.
    I have read that fasting can help re set the body and can help to reduce inflammation and cells can regenerate.
    I think I have leaky gut. And definitely have food sensitivities. It's been hard to pinpoint but gluten and grains in general are culprits for me.
    I have done periodically fasting and I seem to always feel improved and my pain has reduced but when I resume eating even healthy things it seems to gradually get worse again.
    Stress has always been an issue so I try meditating and de stress. I'm even seeing a psychotherapist to help me with cognitive thinking and the chronic anxiety and depression.
    Is hard to get back into balance. I've been trying to sort my mind and body out for years to try and feel calm and be pain free and functioning better.
    I do end up relapsing and stop making better choices with food as I find it hard to stick with but then I'll try again.
    I'm currently doing intermittent fasting. But feel I need to do an extended fast. I'm currently in a big flare up of the disease. I am tired dealing with this cycle.
    What do you suggest for me to do to stop the cycle. The cycle of making healthy choices then relapsing then back on again. Trying to stick with things long term is challenging for me. Even though the consequences means feeling crappy and pain.
    Is there something that I'm missing that I'm not doing?
    what is it that I need to do to get back to wellness.

    Just found your video and very interesting, and thank you for posting.
    I'm 47 year old male and I've been having learning issues for a very long time. Also apart from that I find it very hard to stay focused and do the one task with thinking that I need to check something when there's no real need for it. I do believe I suffer from adult ADHD but that only my opinion amongst other things.
    I want to get some blood tests done but not sure what I need to ask for when wanting a comprehensive blood test to see where I'm chemically imbalanced.
    Are you able to offer some advice?

      Yes, there is no set formula. We need routines, but we also need some novelty to stimulate the brain. Routines can be that we sleep and exercise around the same time every day. Novelty can be learning a new skill or new language to promote neuroplasticity.

    Great video. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience. What kind of tests are required to be conducted in the brain to identify where we currently stand and areas of improvement?
    I'm trying to improve on a very tough skill that requires a lot of concentration, focus, discipline and confidence.

    • @DrPeterKan
      @DrPeterKan  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There are many different tests depending on the nature of the condition and what we are trying to accomplish. If you are trying to improve a skill, you don't necessarily need a test. The best thing to do is actually put effort into concentration, focus, and being disciplined about it. The confidence comes when you see yourself making progress.

    Exercise for better blood flow to all your organs. I exercise a lot and make good decisions but have very poor forcus and memory. I stay busy and forget to eat sometimes during the day and I'm anemic so there's that. Running on coffee most days and over eat at dinner time. Exercise keeps my inflammation in my back away

    Your lecture is accurate for the most part, though the various cognitive functions are not as clearly contained to the various sub-sections of the frontal cortex. These sub-sections make up an interconnected network. So a lesion / stroke to any part of that network will affect the overall function.

      it's called the yerkes-dodson law. It describes a inverted u-shaped function with stress on the x-axis and performance on the y-axis. Basically it says: A medium amount of stress is beneficial for performance; too high or no stress at all and your brain is not in the right state to perform well.

    What would be an appropriate blood test (if there is one) to check for specific inflammation inter body to effect the bran negatively .

    • @DrPeterKan
      @DrPeterKan  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There are many different ways inflammation can manifest in the body, and different markers may give clues about inflammation. There is no one marker that can tell the whole story. CRP is one such marker. But there are many others. And you can be inflamed but have normal CRP, because you can be inflamed in a different pathway that is not reflected in CRP. This is why a detailed history with a skilled functional medicine practitioner can help determine what lab tests to order so increase the chance of catching the problem.
