Dr. B, I hope you see this. I am nearly in tears right now. I have anosmia for over a decade due to nasal polyps & surgery. Could smell just 0%-5% of the time. Bought the items you recommended last evening. Took just one dose. Tested my sense of smell on a bottle of essential Peppermint oil and the scent was so strong. It's as though that part of my brain is now awake! Thank you so much Dr. B.

Benfotiamine comes in 100, 150, 200, 250 and 300mg's. Alpha Lipoic Acid comes in 100 up to 600mg's . I know you don't comment on questions so I won't bother asking, but for future videos a little hint about the ratio and/or dosage of each one would be helpful. Thank you for all info you provide to the public that has in my opinion been more helpful than any "DOCTOR" I've ever talked to!

I've been dealing with anosmia for over five years due to nasal polyps and surgery, which left me with a complete loss of smell. Recently, I started taking Zinc (1 per day), Vitamin B1 (benfotiamine) (4 per day), and Alpha-lipoic acid (2 per day for the first month, then reducing to 1, 2, 1 thereafter). After two months of this regimen, I'm thrilled to report that my sense of smell has improved to about 60%. Thank you, Dr. Berg! I've included the dosages since many have been asking about them. Once again, thank you! You can imagine the countless prayers my family and I are sending your way. Please continue to spread positivity!
Long time ago I lost my sense of smell and taste (I think these two senses are related) due to a nasal spray. I read that applying one or two drops of warm castor oil would help to restore the sense of smell. I did it only once, and it worked amazingly well and very fast. I just wanted to share this, as it helped me and I hope it helps other people.
The same thing happened to me. Was the nasal spray Zicam? It's unfortunate how some companies don't test their product enough and we end up being the guinea pigs. I'll try out the castor oil solution. Intriguingly enough, I already ordered some a few days ago for other purposes!
@@MindsetWithJosh The brand of the spray I was using is Olynth (I live in the Czech Republic, and this brand has different sprays). I could see that this spray was very strong and effective to unblock the nose, I didn't over use it, but after the second day I realized that I couldn't smell or taste anything. I started panicking as I love perfumes and good food, so not being able to enjoy them was, is and would be terrible for me! I hope the castor oil helps you, for me it worked amazingly well. I don't use these sprays anymore, I prefer to use more gentle and natural products. Please let us know if it works for you, in case you try it. My best wishes to you all the way from Prague.

I have lost about 70% of my sense of smell due to Covid for 3 months. I tried your combination of zinc, B1 and Alpha Lipoid acid, and it works. I started 3 weeks ago and I am regaining it little by little my smell. For hw long should I do it? Thanks a lot fo your video :).
I had nasal polyps and went 10 years without smell or diagnosis, I just got used to it. I had a polypectomy and everything was ok for 9 years then it started going again...on/off depending on factors like alcohol consumption which REALLY seems to cause inflammation everywhere and totally blocks my now reduced sense of smell. I’m presently zero alcohol, fasting and using ACV and things seem to be improving, although not like 2 months after healing from the polypectomy. Then, I could’ve competed with an airport sniffer dog.

Wow, there may be hope for me. I lost my sense of smell and taste 4 years ago. It has been horrible. I have burnt food since I cannot smell. This happened after a severe sinus infection which was treated with antibiotics and nasal spray. I stopped using the spray 4 days later as it caused really bad headaches. So I lost my sense of smell and taste. I do take zinc and magnesium. I will try B1 and keeping fingers crossed. I would love to smell again and taste the delicious food. @@letuswrap I had Covid for 4 weeks (RN, aware of all symptoms) in Nov of 2019. My health in many ways has never been the same. This was just before the big public reveal, I’ve had several exacerbations of various lung, brain fog, joint pain, generalized weakness, etc. symptoms since then. Do not believe it completely leaves the body. But hangs on like shingles. I worry very much about less informed persons who do not recognize these patterns.
Dr Berg has one of the best channels. We're very fortunate he is so willing to provide these perfect sized, mini-tutorials! There are anti-viral preventative and early treatments for Covid-19 but they are not presently supported by NIH or FDA. Like antibiotics which encouraged adapted bacterial strains, vaccinations may encourage selective virus mutation. It's critically important that new variant mutations are not permitted to replicate. Meanwhile, Dr. Berg provides valuable information for those suffering from loss of smell. Thanks Dr. Berg!

A lot of people I know have had this condition of loss of smell in 2020, most of them thought that they were Covid positive, which wasn't the case. Thanks for sharing 👍🏻
You can have a negative test, and have COVID as well. My cousin even went to the ICU for weeks, he never had a single positive test (pre-vaccination time, had no risk factor). I had bronchitis last December with loss of smell (PCR tested negative), I also had the the same/similar symptoms again this week with loss of smell again (omicron agian, no test performed, outside 30°C ; ☀). But the symptoms are pretty obvious (sore throat, fever >39°C, muscle pain, night sweat,, cough with phlegma, total loss of smell for 1-2 days, although cough last December was more severe than now). I never had any fever and hardly temperature when I got a cold in the pre-pandamige time. Because of my knee arthosis, I take glucosamin and chondroitine supplements, which contains zinc (~ 7- 15 mg/d zinc since the beginning of the pandemic). May explain why my loss of smell only lasted 1-2 days. No running nose, but the smell cells in the nose for sure felt inflamed during that loss of smell phase.

Thank you for yet another super informative video!! I have learnt so much from this channel. Could hyposmia be caused by medications used for chronic pain? Or by the pain itself? Could the stress of chronic pain cause my B group vitamin levels to deplete? I would be so grateful for any helpful information on anything I can do food or supplement wise to help my body cope with it (I’ve had it and been on medications for 10 years and I’m also on anti-depressant) incredibly appreciated!! Anything at all would be amazing!
Could you please do a video on the opposite issue? My friend suffers from a severly oversensitive sense of smell(since decades, she is not pregnant)To a point that it influences her whole day, even just a light smell of something feels like burn and acid. No hallucinations, though! The smell is there, but not even close as she perceives it. It causes her pain, brain fog etc.. I'd be thankful if you could share your knowledge on this (:
It’s not necessarily a disorder. I’m so sensitive to smell my nickname could well be blood-hound. I can’t wear most fragrances. All are overpowering. As you get stronger (more healthy) it becomes more manageable. Key thing is to stay away from synthetic poisons and substances in general and use nothing artificial on your body. If you can’t eat it, don’t use the cream, lotion, or cosmetic. My kitchen provides all dermatological and skin care needs. Animal fat is a great moisturizer and skin conditioner.
No, her case is definitely pathological. She suffers. And it hasn't always been that way yet it's not clear with what it all started. She doesn't use or wear any fragrance(of course not) Sometimes she even has a hard time to pass the floor of her building because of the (typical) chemicals her neighbor's use for their laundry. It's not about not liking the smell. She gets severe headaches because of mundane smells. Almost like passing out. i don't use anything either yet she can't stand the smell of my clothes sometimes, because it smells too strong from the(not burned) incense sticks that actually didn't even touch my jacket or got close to it.( but were indeed in the same room). I call her a hound, too. But her sense of smell is far beyond being just sensitive. I aggree with the comment that says brain scan. Eventually she has to do one, that's right..Or maybe she already has, I have to ask her.
Does this problem ever entail loss of taste? I've had a real issue in recent weeks with taste weakness ... perhaps you can address this issue? Thank you for all you do!!!

Berg!

Question- is that a drop inside each nostril?
@@letuswrap Yes, one or two warm drops in each nostril.
The same thing happened to me. Was the nasal spray Zicam? It's unfortunate how some companies don't test their product enough and we end up being the guinea pigs.

@@vickylicea9896 Not sure abou the cause, but they had common symptoms like fever and cold.
Me too all tests negative ... after a cold all started ...
I just dropped a message on the video on ALA on Asomina and found this video. Thanks Dr. Berg!

She should maybe get a brain scan? It could be something wrong causing her to smell like that.
@@advancedtechnology1775 yep. I have the same thing. I have made my own makeup with spices from the kitchen. Easy peasy and better for everyone.

Did it work
Thank you so much for addressing this subject. I had Covid early November and lost my sense of smell even though I was taking Zinc.. Have tried to find anyone addressing this subject and am so relieved that you gave me some options. How much of the Alpha Lipoic Acid do I need to take?
Did you find how many mgs take a day for both supplements? Tks
And what time is better taking it ?
Try taking Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA) 600mg daily. You can also try warm castor oil. 😊👍
@@kathierouse5306 thanks so much ! does the warm Castor oil is for internal or external use ?

strict water fasting works pretty well.
I started this only a few days ago at 300mg and- Bam! I’m smelling everything- some to my dismay lol.
I’ve been trying to get to the bottom of why I have so much trouble with this. I thought it was thyroid. Nothing fixed it. I’m also sleeping very sound again. I’m 66 and was afraid sleep would never be so sweet again. Thank you Dr Berg!
Glad my advice helped you. Wishing you good health!
Please help me can we talk ... please describe me .which brand how many capsules which vitamins?
Would it be effective when the cause of anosmia is a nasal polyp?
I have the same question. Following this thread for responses.
Good question. I am wondering too
If you eat 3000 calories from vegetable fats daily like olive oil, avocados, nuts, and tahini? Will there be any harm to my health, because I follow the extended fasting diet and do not want to lose much weight and follow the keto diet, but I want to increase the fat percentage so that my weight does not lose much with keto and long fasting for two or three days. Hope Dr. Berg will answer my question or are you making a video on this. We love and trust you. We thank you for the education you provide to people❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
@Dr Eric Berg DC
Dr. Berg --- thank you so much for this video. I have been going through a awful distorted sense of smell for over 3 weeks. I had COVID in January and in April I had a sense of smelling gas. it has been driving me crazy. it was so strong that it caused headaches, nausea, and my eyes to burn like fumes getting in them. It got to the point I held a candle lighter around me to see if I was putting off fumes. I have never had anything like this in my life and hope and pray this stops it. I got some benfotiimne and Alpha Lipoic Acid and zinc. I plan on taking 4 of each a day. You did not give how many of ALA and Zinc to take so I hope I am doing right. Maybe this will help my neuropathy also. THANK YOU AGAIN. I will let you know how this works for me.
I finally regain my sense of taste and smell, after 7months, All thanks to DR EHISZ on TH-cam,his herbs works great for me🥳🥳🥳
It's been 2weeks, how are u feeling now?
Shirley Oates, Have those tablets helped you?
Back in 2015 I got a really bad cold virus flu I’m pretty sure when I took a flight from Florida back home. After I recovered from the flu, I have not been able to smell anything since. Done lots of sinus scans and testing.
Someone enlighten me. Tell me why I lost anout 10% of my smell after covid but gained more taste? Chocolate for ex, seems more savory. Spices are more intense?🤔

I tried alph-lipoic and vitamin B1. It helped a little bit but I still can't smell well. I smell saw dust amd garbage....makes my gag sometimes. Any other suggestions you might think will help??? I'm desperate!! 6ish months and still can't smell properly.

It’s been a year since I’ve lost total sense of smell because of an accident. For the first couple of months i felt really depressed and lost interest in everything.
People with this type of condition get their smell back after 6 months to one year but i cant smell anything. I feel like to cry sometimes because i cant smell my wife, flowers and all the things I loved. :(
And guess what there are no medications for this.

I'm from I can't smell anything I don't know if I can find the prescribed drug here in my country is there a home remedy?
I suffered anosmia my health situation was worsen early this year and was under oxygen for months, I am very glad that today that I can breath freely, got my taste and smell back after using a herbal medicine prepared for me by Dr Isibor herbal medicine on youtube..
Thanks for this video. Similar to the experiences posted by other viewers, I also experience phantom smell (like cigarette smoke). It started in my mid-40's & still occasionally occurs. After doing research & monitoring when this happens, it may be hormone-related for perimenopause & now menopause.
Are you smoking or live with someone who smoke? Be carful chemical smells during the recovering process can effect the olfactory memory this is why is very common in many subjects ... stay away from passive smoke in general and it will slowly disappear...
Rebecca, Have you tried any solution? Has anything helped you, please?

Day 7 of covid. I seem to be past the worst of it. But haven't been able to smell or taste anything since Day 3 😧😧 ... I've ordered these 2 supplements from Amazon and will try to remember to update this comment with results!

How are you now?
I'm on day 20 now, and I feel mostly good. I still get very fatigued after being busy. My sense of smell and taste is still 80% gone. I ordered the supplements , but haven't started them yet :/ procrastinating. I did open the bottles , so I'm planning to start them today.
@@shawnee. alright, if you need anything you can contact Dr Isibor on youtube
Dr Berg, could you do a video on the effect of keto diet on hallucination olfactory? Medical science cannot explain why some people smell cigarette smoke (burnt toast, burnt rubber, etc) when they aren't there. Why is this heightened while on Keto?
It's probably heightend due Ketones in the brain. Which may affect the olfactory nerves.
I know you said you wont recommend any particular brand, But would you do? I lost my smell last March and it hasn't returned. If Im going to spend money on supplements I would prefer to spend them on ones that are good quality. Thank you.
Did you find good brands ?
May God heal you
My husband lost his smell a long time ago then i told him not to eat cheese because of his psoriasis. After a week or 2 of not eating cheese, he can smell again:)
I had Sars Cov 2 in 2015, lost all sense of smell except natural gas. Lost all sense of taste except some sweets which causes me to crave more sweets. Most all food smells rotten. Wish I could get my taste/smell back.

I'm really concerned about this.
Look for things to enjoy and be grateful for.
Being afraid doesn’t change anything, it’s a waste of your time, energy and it harms you and it harms those close to you.
Focus on the beauty around you, focus on that.
@@glockgrandma2517 Thanks for the reassurance, same to you.
