We have a similar lock. We had some chaps build a gate for us and then, put this kind of lock on. Our chaps - put the lock on backwards. The chaps everything on backwards. We called a handyman to come turn everything around. We figured that we are not wood savy but, we must be poor, too. We were given an estimate of $300. just to switch everything around. My mom's lock is very similar to your's but, it is not the same. We were in need of a fence really bad. We took a recommendation. They put both gates opening for left handed people. Totally strange. My dad would have been fixing these things but, he passed away in Oct. Now, it is me and I rely heavily on these online videos for things I do not know. Your video is most helpful.
It was very detailed explanation. Thank you so much. I followed it to install mine but mistakenly made the hole slightly bigger but still works. Hopefully the bigger hole won’t make any problem in the future. Once again thank you for your time making this useful video. Cheers mate.
Thank you for the video. Just bought this exact same gate lock, instead mine is white to match / conceal itself against our white patio door, which is actually vinyl. I’m intrigued to see how the lock attaches to this material. Overall, lovely and detailed tutorial ☺️
Hi, I bought it at the Home Depot online store. Here’s the link www.homedepot.com/p/Boerboel-GardDog-12-5-in-x-3-25-in-x-8-125-in-Nylon-Stainless-Steel-White-Locking-Gravity-Latch-with-2-Sided-Key-Entry-73025501/304499541 Gregory Jasionek
Great video. But something worth considering like this guys gate if yours does too have quite a large gap exposing the metal rod. I'd bolt /attach a plate anyone with a portable power tool these days can just slice str8 through and walk their chops in. Back gates side gates are vulnerable spots for break-ins I don't always go for just decorative I want something secure or atleast that's going to slow someone down and make a lot of noise if they do try.
Do you have any issues with wind rattling the gate? We have a similar latch and the noise is annoying as hell. Just banging the metal parts of the latch from one end to the other. Any issue on yours?
Do you think it could be installed back to front, as in the latch side is facing the street while button facing house? I'm looking to install it on my gate but the design of the gate won't allow me to install in the direction you have
@@voj9558 how would you unlock it to lock the gate. I made the mistake of pushing the button while the gate was open, that locked the latch. Now I am not able to open the latch to lock the gate. Any suggestions? Thanks
Rambling commentary, terrible video. Practice, practice practice. Start with a script. Iearned more just watching and fast forwarding thru the jiggly video.

thank you for the tip on the middle finger when holding the drill.
Good On ya Mate! Cheers from the US.
ty great video. Was looking for this exact thing but didnt know how to explain what i was looking for in shops lol

good job, it's exactly the gate latch I need to install - cheers

where did you buy it or what model is it? thanks

Ty very much for posting. I am curious how the plastic has held up in the sun? Ty again.
@Voj Nice video. Just a minor observation, you aren't using a hole punch to mark the spots for drilling, you're using a centre punch
Awesome video, well done!
U have metal edging on your gate, would this still be effective on an all wood fence
Thanks for the vid on the lock! What wood did you use for the gate? Ipe?
Great Job!
I have a colorbond gate that doesn’t line up with the fence could I still get it to work ?
Love that style fence
Great vid! Thanks mate!
At 9:38 what did you use to cut that rod running through the middle of the pole?
Thanks for showing. Where did you buy the latch?
Thanks Peter. I have checked, not all Bunnings has it in-stock. Might have to get a different type 😀
Do you have any issues with wind rattling the gate? We have a similar latch and the noise is annoying as hell. Just banging the metal parts of the latch from one end to the other. Any issue on yours?
No issues like that with mine. Maybe a symptom of gate movement in the wind rather than the lock?
@@voj9558 thanks, mate!
Will it work with double-wing gate?
Is this lock available for sale online? I am from India and wish to install this on my front gate.
Nice one! did you use the provided screws to attach the lock to the metal gate? and did you do pre-drill for those screws? thanks
Thanks Peter! !
Thanks for the video, I was admiring your gate itself was wondering what the metal is, is it aluminium or wrought iron?
@@voj9558 Thank you Peter, they look great, hope mine looks as good as that when i'm done.
Steel.. although I would highly recommend speaking the drilled hole with galvanized paint.. it's going to bleed rust all down that pole unfortunately
Do you think it could be installed back to front, as in the latch side is facing the street while button facing house? I'm looking to install it on my gate but the design of the gate won't allow me to install in the direction you have
It could but it might be easier for someone to take off the main locking mechanism that way (easier access to screws etc).
Looks good. I might install that on my gate. Btw is your post that is next to the wall bolted into the brick or mortar, or just cemented.on the base?.
Sorry for the late reply. Both on this one. Cement at the base and one masonry anchor into brick at the top
If the latch is locked from the outside, can the button still be used to get out from the inside????
locking it from either side stops access from either side
Will the lock keep out all the poisonous snakes, spiders, scorpions, and toads??
Yes, and your mother-in-law too!
Thanks man!
What part of the latch goes inside
If you lock this from the outside when the gate is open, will it still latch (when you close the door)?

Thanks very much
Can you lock both sides with this lock ?
If you're asking if you can lock and unlock the gate from both sides, the answer is yes.
Where did you get this?
They're readily available at Bunnings.
It looks v practical but it is not attracive from the front.
this thing can easily be defeated with a piece of bent wire.
How so?

This video was only to share my experience as I installed the latch. Good to hear you learnt something.
