Thanks a lot for the honest review as always!
Just a quick thing. Its a design by us but not our knife. We are working on our own busget friendly dbk knife.
I did tell them about the sharpness a few times. Heard this frkm multiple Customers. Im curious ahen you bought this knife as they promised me to fix the issue. Im also expecting a new friction sheath for this knife as the standard for it soon.
Kinda sad to hear so many of these shipped dull if the ine we got from them was super sharp. The Customers should get the same treatment as us

Part two is also online now.
I'm not impressed with the knife, I'm glad I've tried it out but I'm not keeping it.
I would definitely like to try your budget knife because the original is excellent.
Thanks for dropping by and taking the time to comment, I appreciate it.

For me, you are a reference, and very credible when you test a knife because you have no commercial affiliation with the manufacturer. This in-depth test clearly reveals the limits of this knife. Eloquent, precise, detailed, methodical - that's what we expect from knife tests in the field. Thank you, Rob, see you soon.

I've never been drawn to the BPS band wagon, I have never had faith in the steel's they use they attract rust like know ones business. If you want a cheap knife get a mora robust, you'd get 3 for the same price as these. I get the feeling so many like them out of pity, I personally don't believe everything I read in the paper, so have never gone down that road. My girlfriend bought me a Za-Pas Ultra outdoor knife from Poland, it's unbelievable, absolutely fantastic holds an edge great and really preforms well with all the tasks I need it for, it's really blown me away how good it is. They can keep their BPS knives, I really don't like wasting money.

This is the second and last BPS I'll review, rusty, blunt and an uncomfortable handles.

You gave that knife a very good work out for what it is. I have several saber ground fixed blades which I had made for myself and wasn't pleased with the performance of that type of grind. I took one and changed the saber grind to a full convex which I found improved the cutting ability. It made improvements on the feather sticking ability and it seemed to improve upon its carving also. The blade lengths are approximately 3 1/2 inches long which some may think are too short for bush crafting but I don't split logs with a knife. The cutting edge on the BPS/DBK appeared to be very thick at the edge. Interested to see what the edge thickness actually is which may have an impact upon its cutting ability. Great video once again!

Good review Rob. I have a different model with same steel. Also rusted very easy. A forced patina sorted the issue.
I used the knife a lot when I got it but have sidelined after a year or so in favour of something else. I think with some knives, when you buy them, you know you have to put some work in to get them up to snuff... I guess that's the real value of a Mora companion or similar.

Bps makes a few different models, I am still thinking about trying one. There is a model I can get for $35
I wanted to see if I could make new handles and possibly a new sheath.
    Just for experience and fun.

I have a horrible time trying to make feathers with my saber ground lt wright GNS. I may try to bring the angle down a bit, maybe to 17° as you mentioned. Good luck w/ this knife, I have 2 BPS knives and feel a fair deal for the $ but prefer Mora knives.

    Great video.
Would be interesting to see if its a grind issue or the steel.
Being that this is meant to be a hand made knife, it seems to be looking like QC isn't there.
I know my magnacut was several times more, but so far it hasn't dulled and occasionally gets to look at a strop.

I have to say that I don't understand what the DBK guys are doing. First they designed a high-end outdoor knife, outsourced it to a Lithuanian company and priced it as if it were hand-forged at Buckingham Palace. Then they took a complete 180 and started making a much lower quality knife (this time by a Ukrainian company) using one of the cheapest steels around and instead of preserving the design features of the original DBK knife (which is excellent) created a basic, rust loving camp kitchen knife. Very strange and quite confusing.

    • @RobEvansWoodsman

I don't think they should have let Bps use their design.

Hi Rob, pardon my ignorance, but how do I go about purchasing one of your hand made knives? I'm struggling to find a site for you where I can have a look at what you have available or at least to get on a waitlist. Thanks, Mike

Any info on updated UK knife laws?
Had the police harassing me just before Christmas. They wanted to "chat" to me about a delivery. They claimed it was an "illegal" knife but wouldn't tell me what knife it was after i told them a don't own a single illegal knife. The only blade I recently bought was from the knifecenter, USA. Got the 3V cold steel recon scout, which is a perfectly legal blade to buy, import, & own. Unless, of course, the law has been changed. Can't find anything myself. They have apparently let it go as I haven't heard anything back from them. I asked for the knife name/model so I could totally hand it in. Heard nothing back from them. Most troubling as I have thousands of pounds worth of blades. To think the police could just roll up & steal them all is rather worrying/ANNOYING.

I don’t think they know their ass from their elbow. A couple of years ago, I ordered a knife from USA, it was a cold steel Ti-Lite, styled after the traditional Italian Switchblade, 100% legal in the UK as it hasn’t a spring, it has a thumb stud. It didn’t turn up for months, couldn’t find out what had happened, then out of the blue, I got a phone call from a copper from the Knife Crime Unit in a town some 40 miles away. He said the customs had asked him to investigate a “dangerous” weapon, could he pop round for a talk. I told him there was no need to, I explained I was into bushcraft, carving etc, collected legal knives, many of which were from the 1920s which were my grandfathers, I said I wasn’t some young thug, I was not happy about being criminalised for my hobby because of the abysmal actions of a small minority, blah, blah. It wasn’t a knife I would dream of taking out of the house, it was for my collection and I intended to fit bone slabs on it. Upshot was, the customs wanted to know if I wanted the knife….well….what do you think? I said!🤣.
They basically try to brow beat you into giving up a legal purchase, also, I was outraged that the US store had given up my phone number and financial details like that!

to the 'un-practiced' like myself is there a simple answer to the different techniques of really fine and chunky feathersticks ? is it a question of pressure angle of blade to wood or a combination?

    • @RobEvansWoodsman
      @RobEvansWoodsman  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Thin curls need a steady hand with less pressure and big thick curls need more pressure and a steeper angle of attack!

The BPS knives in 1066 that I have begin to rust just by looking at them
    Need to oil them immediately
You have reviewed blunt knives in the past
Honestly does not make for a good review
I have not come away with a realistic appraisal of the posibilites of the knife
Please sharpen it with a working edge next time
    thanks

Part 2 up now , I field shapen it.
Some buyers don't actually know how to sharpen a knife so I think it's important to get a "out of the box" review done.
